Ladies Kennel Association

Breed: Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Thank you so much to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to give CCs in this breed for the first time. The organisers are to be congratulated for the way in which the show was managed and run, in view of the Covid situation. I really enjoyed my day and heard later that I had made up two new champions, making several people very happy and shouts of celebration around the ring. One of my new champions, the Best of Breed bitch, went Terrier Group Three, finishing off my day in style. On the negative side, some of the exhibits did not like the floor and preferred to skip around the ring. One was so bad that he had to be withdrawn, which was a great shame. Also, there were some absentees which I assume was due to Covid problems.

Thank you to my stewards, Diane Smith and Martin Russell.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2)

1. Satherley’s Silkcroft Shake it off. Although only a month older, this young man was so much more mature than his competitor. Compact, short coupled, strong and well built. Super, well-proportioned head with strong jaws. Excellent ears of correct shape and size, set on correctly. Chest moderately wide. Soft, silky coat coming through nicely. Wonderful movement, with good reach in front and drive behind. BEST PUPPY.

2. Herbert’s Saffini Smooth Operator at Julibidd. Still very much a baby. Head OK and coat developing well. Not so compact, but well made and nicely boned. Moved very well.

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1. Johnstone, Gibson & Huggett’s Loofahsa Lockdown Madness at Rouxboos. Although he was 15 months old, I was told this was his first show and he performed very well. Correctly proportioned head, with nice flat skull. Nice V shaped ears, set on well. Compact, strong, well-built body providing a good picture. Moved well with good, correct coat.

POST GRADUATE DONG (4)

1. Balchin’s Bridestones Red Cinnabar (Ax1). Good head. Excellent mouth with large teeth, strong jaws and a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite. Moderately long, strong, muscular, slightly arched neck. Not such a compact body as some, but nicely made with good tail set. Coat of a paler colour. Moved very well.

2. Hookway’s Denzilly Golden Compass. Quite a different type. Almost too compact, resulting in a shorter body and neck. Correct head. Good soft and silky coat of correct colour. Moved well.

3. Cartwright’s Saffini We Will Rock You.

LIMIT DOG (2)

1. Grimes-Watson & Watson’s Janeyjimjams Jem Devlin. Both very nice mature dogs. This one stood higher on leg giving him the appearance of being very compact, but overall shape was well balanced. Excellent profile when stood, strong and well built, standing four square with head and tail up. Good strong, masculine head with excellent ears and set on, finished off with a lovely beard. Very good hindquarters with strong, muscular thighs. Well bent stifles, hocks straight and well let down. This resulted in him moving very well with reach and drive. Correct coat and colour.

2. Charleton’s House of Softy Indus (imp Swe). This dog had the appearance of being longer in back, but still balanced. Not such a strong, masculine head, but still correct. A good height. Paler in colour, but coat OK. Nice overall shape and profile with excellent tail set. Moved very well with reach and drive.

OPEN DOG (7)

A very nice class, with super dogs present. I note the first three showed under me at Leeds three years ago, when they were very young. I thought they were nice then and so pleased they have grown up into beautiful champion dogs.

1. Taylor’s Eblanahalls Silkbeard at Raisingsands. I was pleased to be told I made him into a champion on the day. My ideal mature, male SCWT and in my eyes fits the breed standard very well. Compact, upstanding, strong and well-built: balanced in structure and movement. Standing four square with head and tail up. Lovely, strong, masculine head. Excellent soft, silky coat of correct colour. Strong loins and very good hindquarters, producing wonderful movement, free and graceful with reach in front and drive behind. DCC.

2. Satherley’s Am Can Ch Silkcroft Freeze Frame (Re Imp) JW Bel Jun. Another lovely dog of the same age, who I have judged several times before and placed him high. I am not surprised he has done so well abroad. Always excellently handled. A great showman. Has a wonderful head, good eye colour and correct ear set. Good front, spring of rib, depth of chest .and body. Also, a super mover. A worthy champion. RDCC.

3. Patterson’s Ch Snowmeadow Sauls to Gavleash. I placed him well before and pleased he is now a champion.

4. Barrett’s Saffini Shining Star.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (2)

1. Satherley’s Silkcroft Wildest Dreams. A lovely example of a SCWT puppy, well handled, as expected from this kennel. Caught my eye immediately, as she moved around the ring like a dream. Correct, well proportioned head with super ear carriage. Bodying well, giving a well-balanced outline. Coat coming through well, of correct colour and texture.

2. Barrett’s Saffini The Sweetest Taboo. Only 6 months old and her first show. Suits her name, very feminine and immature at the moment. Good mouth. Nice shape and balanced. Coat coming through nicely. Should develop into a nice bitch with time.

PUPPY BITCH (3)

1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Gold Limerence. A very nice puppy bitch. Super showman with a lovely temperament. Maturing very nicely with well-proportioned head, flat skull, dark eyes, well set ears and beard. Well bodied, compact and strong, with level topline and excellent tail set. Moved well, free, graceful and lively, including jumping the lines on the floor!

JUNIOR (2)

1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Gold Limerence. As above.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (3)

1. Brodrick & Satherley’s Silkcroft Place Your Bets. Good, well-proportioned head with moderately long, strong, muscular, slightly arched neck. Compact, strong body and level back. Well-muscled hindquarters and well let down hocks. Nice tail set. Correct coat and colour. Moved well.

2. Johnstone & Blackhall’s Rouxboos Varga Girl. Good head with super ear set. Nice compact, well balanced body. Showed very well but did not move so well as my first place on the day.

LIMIT BITCH (6)

1. Taylor’s Silverluka Superstition at Raisingsands. Lovely bitch of great quality, which won her the placing. She was just beautiful. Super, well-proportioned head, lovely ear carriage, correct bite and a large black nose. Good neck, forequarters, compact body and hindquarters. It was such a shame she did not like the floor which initially affected her temperament and movement. But her quality shone through in the end. RBCC.

2. Springford’s Keevasdram White Linen JW. Another very nice SCWT bitch. Well-made and balanced. Feminine head with dark hazel eyes. Nice length of neck, good topline and tail set. Lovely coloured coat. Just did not have the finish of my first placed. Moved very well and of an excellent type.

3. Charleton’s House of Softy Indi Janeyjimjams (Imp Swe).

OPEN BITCH (3)

1. Witheyman & Satherley’s Silkcroft Born This Way JW. I was very pleased to hear I had made her into a champion on the day. She went on to be Terrier Group Three, a favourite of Tom Johnson. She caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring. Matured and at her best today, also very well handled. Such a showman, showing off all her beautiful attributes. Wonderful outline and construction. She just glided around the ring in a free, graceful manner. BCC & BOB.

2. Lui’s Eblanahalls Honeytrap JW. Another quality bitch who I have placed very well in the past. But not at her best today, I have seen her looking a lot better. She has recently had puppies and not fully recovered yet. Also, I am sure the strange floor did not suit her. Which was a shame.

3. Hughlock’s Janeyjimjams Jolene at Keevasdream.

VETERAN BITCH (2)

1. Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes at Eblanahalls. ShCM ShCEX Vw. A lovely ‘old lady’ who is aging well. A good brood bitch and credit to her owner. In super coat and condition. Good head and body with a level back. Moved quite well, but I think the floor also affected her. BEST VETERAN.
