Hungarian Pumi

As a founder member of both the Hungarian Pumi Club Of Great Britain and the Hungarian Pumi Club Committee, I have followed the breed closely from its early days in the Uk. The first seminar that was held was invaluable in putting across the blueprint of the breed to future Judges that showed interest and attended. The UK breed standard for the Pumi is now well established and it is important that the breed is kept to the function and fundamentals that is typical and to keep them on the right track by their dedicated breeders and owners in the Uk as they gain popularity.

VD (1) 1st Cseresznyeskerti- Csalfa-Zajos. 7 year old dog of great type. Slightly smaller built but has excellent proportions. Square outline and well balanced. Long, narrow head with a minimum of stop. Good length of muzzle but strong. Excellent bite with dark pigment. Good eye shape. Ears well set and correctly tipped, giving a breed typical outlook. Medium neck. Not over angled either end. Firm, level topline. Correct ribs. High set tail. Rugged coat, sensibly presented. Moved as his conformation dictated, with a moderate stride, sound in all directions. RBD.

PD (1) 1st Yazuka Roisin Dubh. 11 month old pup. A bit on the big side and slightly off square in outline. Good overall type. Head shows good length, relatively narrow with good bite and pigment. Excellent oval, dark eye. Ears are set ok . Medium neck. Moderate angles and stands on tight, small feet. Coat a bit soft at the moment, probably due to age, but is well prepared. Moved well, once settled. BP.

JD (1) 1st Pumiden Very Special Agent. Liked this young black for type, size and shape. Lovely head, good length and well proportioned with minimum stop. Dark, expressive eye. Well set ears but could be used to better advantage. Moderate neck. Correct ribs and a short, muscular loin. Balanced angles front and back. Excellent topline. Needs to gain more confidence which would improve his tail carriage as it is well set-on. Moved well once he settled into his stride. Coat still a touch soft, hopefully should harshen with age. Sympathetically handled.

PGD (1) 1st Pajkos Fine ‘N’ Dandy. A Grey. Just loved this dog for type. Wouldn’t want him any bigger and is a touch long in loin for ideal balance but a really excellent representative. Super head, long, narrow right to the end of his blunt muzzle. Oval eye. High set ears, correctly tipped. Medium neck. Good lay of shoulder but a touch upright in upperarm. Good ribs. Moderate hind angulation leading to well-defined, sound hocks. High set and carried tail. Moved soundly with a medium stride, though handler could perhaps take him up a gear. Excellent coat for texture, colour and presentation.

OD (2) 1st Int Ch Ir Ch Balthazar Pumiden Avec Schnaubern. I have followed this 6 year old white dog’s show career from a young puppy when I first met him. Now a finished, mature Pumi of excellent type, shape and of an ideal size. Head is well proportioned, good length and a minimal stop. Good eye shape and pleasing in pigment, especially for his colour. High set ears, used to best advantage at all times. Moderate neck, good chest, ribs and the firmest of toplines. Moderately angled front and rear, leading to low, well defined hocks. High set tail, just a touch flat. Carrying enough weight and in pleasing coat. Moved absolutely true in all directions with a moderate stride. Has been a good ambassador for the breed in the Uk and long may he continue. BD & BOB.

2nd Pumiden Ear For Whereva U’Are. Different type of dog. A grey of attractive, even colour. Slightly shorter on the leg, so just off square in outline. Pleasing head, eye and pigment with excellent high set tipped ears. Firm topline. Good ribs and short loin. Tail set ok, could be carried better, but he wasn’t settled today and this was also reflected on the move.

GCD (1) 1sr C. Csalfa- Zajos.

JB (1) 1st Pumiden Prime Suspect. Very pretty, promising young black. Excellent square shape. Feminine size. Good head, dark, expressive eye and good pigment. Ear set ok. Medium neck. Balanced, moderately angled front and rear. Low set, well defined hocks. Soft coat at present, but should harshen in time. Lacked confidence so not carrying her tail well. Once she gets her act together could have a good future as she has many breed virtues. Sound mover once settled.

SYB (2) 1st Breezelyn Ears A Top Tip At Alepenke. Grey bitch of super type and typical Pumi character! Lovely long head, excellent eye and pigment. High set ears. Medium neck. Good angles. Still to body-up and general mature but has all the breed basics. Unsettled at first on the move but settled enough to display a breed typical, short-stepping stride. Tail set ok. Good coat for texture and preparation.

PGB (2) 1st Sereteperti Cseperke To Pumiden. Liked this pretty, young fawn for size, femininity and overall type. Head a touch short but she has a good eye, bite and ears, minimal stop and finishing with a blunt muzzle. Good to go over on the table and stands on small cat-like feet. At 2 years her coat is starting to harshen and even out in colour. Moved well with a medium stride, sound and a high set and carried tail.

OB (2) Two good grey bitches here but quite different.

1st Ceridwen Pumida Schnaubern. Excellent for type and square shape. Liked her size and feminine outlook. Good head, with length and a blunt muzzle. Dark eye with mischievous expression and strong pigment. High set and used ears. Moderate angles. Lightly boned and nimble build. Excellent ribs. Short, firm loin. Low, well defined hocks. High set tail, if a bit of a tight curl. Moved very well in all directions. Shaggy, crisp coat of good colour. BB.

2nd Pumiden Total Eclipse. Pleases in head, enough length, narrow with a strong muzzle. Dark, oval eye and excellent ears, high set and tipped. Medium neck. Mature body and deep brisket. A bit over angulated at the rear but moves out well driving off low set hocks. Would prefer her coat more natural in presentation as the texture is there and she has a good undercoat. Overall, a really pleasing Pumi. RBB.
