Breed: Leonberger

LEONBERGER

Firstly, apologies for my late arrival to the ring, I had checked with the show Secretary first thing in the morning and she advised me that Briards were definitely scheduled as the first breed in ring 11, different to what was printed in the show catalogue, unfortunately this proved not to be the case. Secondly, I was a little disappointed with my entry, Leonbergers are a working breed who should be able to move accurately, the standard states “seen from front and behind, legs move in a straight line when walking or trotting” which seemed, in a lot of exhibits, not to be the case today. I also own a coated breed and I fully understand the hard work preparing a coat but dirty coats and knots, in my book, are unforgiveable.

1. Simmonds’ Teffills Zalman (imp RUS). Felt, today, this male of 2 years showed the most accurate and straight movement in this class. Kind expression with balanced head, good neck and satisfactory shoulders, level top-line, well muscled rear, carried tail high on the move which spoilt his overall outline, RBD.

2. Dion’s Dacfolke Hornblower. Would like to see more body on this 2 year old male but kind head and good bone. Looked well in profile moving but untidy on the out and back. Was presented and handled fairly well.

3. Stoodley’s Bavaruki Temo Bowie.

LD 1(0)

1. Darling’s Debbollinby Pepsi Max. 4 year old male with masculine head. Satisfactory shoulder and good bone, felt he was a little down on his pasterns. Level top-line with well muscled rear. Showed some sound profile movement but untidy moving away and on the return.

OD 2(0)

1. Baldwin’s Brynarian Balilaika. Strongly made masculine dog of 5 years with strong head and kind expression. Good neck and nicely angulated throughout with good bone and muscle. Moved well in all areas. Presented in well muscled and fit condition, BD.

2. Darling’s Debbollinby Pepsi Max.

1. Cleary’s Eternal Summer Ginger Heaven for Benellieson (imp POL). Nicely put together bitch of nearly 2 years. Feminine head with good neck and shoulders, level top-line and nicely angulated throughout, well muscled and fit. Moved out in all directions correctly and accurately, RBB.

2. Griffins’ Simbalions Molly Malone (imp ITA). This 6 year old bitch was a little overdone for me but good head and bone, neck and shoulders satisfactory but would have liked more positive and accurate movement overall.

3. Dion’s Gilvaris Hollyred.

LB 4(1)

1. Cleary’s Mystic Charm Ginger Heaven for Benellieson (imp POL). Liked this bitch of nearly 2 years and felt she gave the best representation today. Feminine, balanced head with good front and nicely angulated shoulders. Level top-line and well muscled, sound rear. Moved well in all directions covering ground with ease, BB and BOB.

2. Wescomb’s Brynarian Ballikissangel at Fieldshouse. Nicely presented bitch of nearly 5 years with feminine, kind head, good bone and nicely angulated throughout, well muscled, she moved out well but would benefit from more improved handling to bring out her best.

3. Griffin’s Simbalions Molly Malone (imp ITA).

Liked this young bitch of 16 months, lovely in outline standing and moving, very feminine head and expression, good neck and shoulders, nice depth of chest and well muscled all through, good rear. Correct and accurate movement, she showed herself off well and was pleased to award both BB & BOB.

Lovely outline with good shoulders and correct body shape, in well muscled and fit condition, a credit to her breeder, BB & BOB.

2. Walmsley’s Trelowen Amelia at Frostisen. Nicely presented bitch of nearly 4 years. Feminine head and alert expression. Good shoulders although I felt she could benefit from a little less weight. She moved out well covering the ground well and was handled and presented well, RBB.

SAINT BERNARD

OB 1(0)

1. Milburn’s Lazybears Betty Boo at Dawstenbears. I remember judging this bitch as a youngster some years ago. Now 3 years, she has developed well, lovely feminine head and expression. Nicely angulated all through with good bone. Deep chest and good rib, well muscled and very fit, she moved with good ground covering reach and drive, a little out of coat but this didn’t detract from her qualities.
