Breed: Retriever (Golden)

My sincerest thanks to Sally Duffin and her Committee for extending this very kind invitation to judge this breed for the first time at Championship Show level. I was very pleased with the size of my entry which compared favourably against other championship shows this year. My eternal thanks to my fantastic stewards - Deeana and Christine who kept the ring running with seamless efficiency. Most of all - thank you to all those exhibitors for bring your dogs forward for my consideration. I thoroughly enjoyed my day. My criteria was a sound, fit for purpose dog that could work in the field all day - free from exaggeration. I found that in my top winners.

1st: O’GORMAN, Mrs P & Mr S Rathcloon Hunter In Pink For Berrymeade (IKC) JD. My star of the day. You have to get your hands on her to appreciate her totally correct confirmation. She is not flashy or overdone in anyway. What you have before you is a perfectly balanced bitch. She is of the correct size with a good length of leg in proportion to her length of body. Her head is very feminine with good chiselling beneath the eyes. She has a good layback of shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. She maintains a level topline both standing and in motion. Her ribcage is well sprung with the the loin short. Moving on to her hindquarters she has a correct tail set, second thigh of good width and is square from hock to heel when viewed from the rear. And then she moves - ground covering with superb footfall. The more I asked the more she gave. She would cross a field of plough with ease. Her reward was the CC and BOB. I found out afterwards it was her third - very well done.
