National Gundog Association
National Gundog - Sunday 1st August
Weimaraners
Judge: Anthony Allen
I was thrilled to be invited to be asked to judge Weimaraners at National Gundog Association. I would like to thank the officers and committee of the society for inviting me and the exhibitors for supporting me with such a high-quality entry. I absolutely loved this appointment; there were some quality dogs for me to go over a super atmosphere with lots of applause for the winners. Special thanks to my two stewards who kept me on the straight and narrow during the day.
My main general observation was about the number with incorrect front construction, this is mainly due to upper arms being too short. Please watch this, as once you have it in your breeding it is a devil to breed out. I was also concerned at how few youngsters were being shown. I hope it is just a result of the pandemic, with fewer people running on youngsters and not it is a trend, as that would be worrying.
My Best of Breed, and later Group 4, was the young dog GUNALT HENDRICKS (MR D R ALCORN) winning his fifth CC, the RDCC going to SH CH GUNALT UNDENIABLE AT JONEVA JW (MR J & MR P M EVANS & PAVEY). My BCC winner was classy SH CH GUNALT MOVE IT TO PIPWELL (MRS J & MR M & MISS H HESFORD & CAMPBELL) and the RBCC going to JONEVA HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR JW (MR S, MRS E & MRS K HUNT & ROBERTS). Best Puppy was the lovely MINSTERGATE CARNIVAL (MRS C RODGERS), who I think will have a very bright future ahead of her and Best Veteran to the evergreen CH SIREVA SKYPE JW (MRS G & MRS G SIMPSON & DAWSON).

1ST PARHELIS NEXUS NAF (MRS S A MORGAN)
Nice type of youngster, clean in outline. Head and expression pleasing, clean reach of neck into well set shoulders. Stands on good legs and neat feet. Decent length of rib, short through the loin. Balanced angles both fore and aft. Still needs to find his feet on the move but with a bit of practice he should do that, he was rather enjoying himself today which was great to see.
2ND DREISTONE AIRGRID MACALLAN (MRS C HARDING-BROWN)
Another real baby, only six months and first time out and he was really not playing ball with his handler. At this age he is developing in all the right ways, the basic of construction are correct and his head is well proportioned. Quarters are well developed with well-turned stifles. He got into his stride for a few paces and what I would see was accurate.
3RD PARHELIS CORRINO (MRS HEUSTON)

1ST HUNDWITH CHECKMATE OF COROTINE (MRS C & MISS C & MR D RAZZELL, HAZELTINE & CROWTHER)
Upstanding dog, I wouldn’t want any more of him for my tastes. Head masculine with good proportions, neck clean into good well-set shoulders, stands on good straight legs and neat feet. Good through the body with ribs as they should be at this age. Quarters well made; stifles moderately bent. Had the most accurate footfall to take the class and Best Puppy Dog.
2ND PARHELIS NEXUS NAF (MRS S A MORGAN)

1ST NETHERHILL EUROZONE TO KHAMSYNN (MRS D & MRS L MCDOWALL & RUTLAND)
Another one well up for size and a bit at that ‘in-between’ stage that they sometimes go through. He has good overall proportions, a decent front assembly and overall balance. Plenty of depth about him at this age. Moved out well in this class but in the subsequent classes started pacing a bit and wouldn’t settle into the correct stride.
2ND NETHERHILL EURO VISION OF GREYFLYER (MISS K KEMP)
Another one just finding his feet after lockdown, shown in good condition. Head pleasing but a little strong in back skull for my taste. Good reach of neck and enough lay back of shoulder, would have like a little more return of forearm. Depth of in chest is correct for his age and good body proportions, firm in topline. Stiles well bent and well-made quarters. Needs to settle on the move which he should do with a little more practice.

1ST WALLAROO PHANTOM MENACE (POUNTNEY)
I liked this 18 month old boy, I liked his shape, outline and size. His head is pleasing with a kind eye. He has a clean neck which led into well set shoulders, enough depth of chest for his age. Stands on good legs and neat feet. Body of good proportions, ribs springing as they should be, firm loin. Quarters well developed. Stifles moderately angulated. Moved out well in the class with a good action.

2ND WEIPOWA DENTON AT BRITMANS (MS J PEARMAN)
Pleasing in head and expression, wouldn’t want it any stronger, good reach of neck and front assembly. Well-developed forechest for his age and good through the rib and loin. Balanced angles front a rear, in hard condition. Moved well covering the ground but was not as accurate in footfall as the winner.

1ST SMILEK MASSACHUSETTES (MR A & MRS T HAWKINS)
Won the class on his balance and size. Pleasing head and expression, good reach of neck and enough lay back of shoulder. Ribs sprung and well back to a firm loin, good quarters with defined muscle. Stands on good legs and feet, correct on the move with a true ground covering action.
2ND KALIMOR HUDSON (MISS D KERR)
Decent head piece on this chap. Good reach of neck and enough lay back of shoulder and return of forearm. Deep in chest, ribs well sprung and back, just a little soft in topline. Stiles well bent and powerful quarters, true on the out and back but lost his shape a little in profile, and today lacked the reach in front of the winner.
3RD CAVALMIST COSWORTH (MRS J & MR C BENNETT)

This gent has a typical head and eye giving and intelligent expression. Lovely reach of neck leading to a well-placed shoulders, would have liked a little more return of forearm, good body proportions with ribs well back and firm in loin. 1ST GUNALT HENDRICKS (MR D R ALCORN)
Saw this dog as a puppy and though he looked smart from the ringside, then lockdown happened, and he obviously took the time to mature up into this super dog. He has a masculine and balanced head with the correct amount of width to his skull and length and breadth to his muzzle, wide nostrils and good finish to foreface. Powerful neck of correct length, leading to well set shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Deep through forechest and straight in front, ribs well back and sprung and correct length of loin which is strong. Quarters well developed and correct turn of stifle, tail well set. Today he moved with purpose and drive, footfall was the most accurate and ground covering in the class, which was full of quality. No hesitation in awarding him the Dog CC and later Best of Breed. Thrilled to later see him go Group 4, congratulations, thank you for bringing him.
2ND SH CH GUNALT UNDENIABLE AT JONEVA JW (MR J & MR P M EVANS & PAVEY)
What a super gentleman this boy is, masculine head with an intelligent expression. Good reach of neck and shoulders well back with desired return of forearm. Firm in topline and body of correct proportions, well set tail and good finish to the croup. Well angulated quarters and which were used to advantage on the move, which gave him this place and later the RCC.

1ST CH SIREVA SKYPE JW (MRS G & MRS G SIMPSON & DAWSON)
What superb Weimaraner, has quality stamped through her from head to tail. She has a gorgeous head piece with a lovely melting expression. I liked her overall shape and balance. She has a super neck leading to good shoulders and the correct length of upper arm, developed forechest. Ribs well sprung and back leading to a firm loin. Super well developed quarters, in hard condition enabling her to move around the ring with ease. She was in close contention for top honours, just not quite the drive of the youngsters on the final run round. Thank you for bringing her. Best Veteran in Breed.
2ND SH CH SIREVA ONLY CONNECT WITH KHAMSYNN, SHCM (MR A M & MRS L I, MS H S RUTLAND & JONES)
This lady did well under me last time and it was lovely to see her again as a veteran. I liked her head and expression, clean through neck and shoulders, with the correct return of upper arm, standing on the best of legs and feet. Ribs sprung and well back and firm through the loin. Topline held throughout and good finish to croup and correct tail set and carriage. Firm quarters gave her the power to drive around the ring with ease, just not quite the profile action of the winner. Thank you for bringing her again.

Feminine with the correct amount of substance. Pleasing head and lovely expression and eye. Super reach of neck and clean through the shoulders, good depth of fore chest and spring of rib for her age. Balanced angles both fore and aft and good bone and substance, not as together on the move as the winner and giving her handler a hard time today but in time should finish very nicely.

Body of good overall proportion with correct spring of rib. Firm through the loin and well-developed quarters. As with the winner very balanced and clean in outline, head pleasing with a feminine expression. Clean neck into shoulders, which have good placement, would have just liked a little more return of upper arm. Body of correct proportions with ribs well sprung and a firm loin, carrying a tad extra weight today. Good quarters on her, stifles well bent. Another very competitive class and it was performance on the final run round that was the deciding factor, a very close decision.
1ST SH CH GUNALT MOVE IT TO PIPWELL (MRS J & MR M & MISS H HESFORD & CAMPBELL)
On the first move around the ring she had a certain style and elegance that kept grabbing my attention. She has the most lovely head piece, correct in length to breadth ratio, and an expression that is hard to resist. Neck of good length and strength, super lay back of shoulder with the correct return of upper arm giving her super forward extension on the move. Chest is deep and ribs are well sprung and back with a firm loin of correct length and slight tuck up, quarters were well developed and had the correct amount of angulation to give her a balanced and open side gait.
