Beagles, Birmingham National Championship Show 2021 Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at their championship show. Thank you to my stewards who looked after me and kept the ring running. Last, but by no means least, thank you to the exhibitors for entering under me and allowing me the privilege of going over your hounds. Overall, the entry was of good quality, with no major faults or bad mouths. I was pleased with my main winners: DCC and BOB Craig’s Ch Davricard Jacob (AI), BCC Breeze’s Dufosse Dragonfly of Parkbreeway JW, RDCC Parker & Stevens’ Serenaker Armani, RBCC to Harvard's Annavah Buttercup. BPIB Jones & Jepson's Eardley Specsavers, BVIB Brown’s Ch Raimex Brittany JW and BSpB Stoddard’s Poppyville First Edition. I was pleased to learn that my BOB was shortlisted in the group under Albert White. Special Beginners Dog (1,0) 1 Stoddard’s Poppyville First Edition – 4yr old hound of larger mould, well built with strong topline and tail set. Masculine head with good front and rear assembly, moved out well and in profile. BSpB Minor Puppy Dog (2,1) 1 Goldberg’s Molesend Colt (ai) – 7 month raw puppy, everything in the right place and shown really well. Moved well out and back with true movement in front. Pleasing head with a lovely expression and correct ear set. Puppy Dog (2,0) 1 Jones and Jepson’s Eardley Specsavers – 10 month puppy, lovely head with gorgeous expression. Well put together with good neck into well laid shoulders. Compact with good spring of rib and good length coupling and rear construction. Moved out well and in profile, still raw for his age but a promising puppy. I preferred the overall picture of this puppy which won him BPD & BPIB 2 Hunt & Ford’s Bondlea Woodlark – Larger mould than 1, still quite raw and a little erratic on the move today which let him down a bit. Well-built puppy with a pleasing head and expression. Good length of neck into good shoulders. Strong top line and correct tail set, good rear assembly. Junior Dog (2,1) 1 Parker & Stevens’ Serenaker Armani – really striking young Tri dog, shown professionally and to his best. Lovely head with gentle expression, completely free from frown and wrinkle. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Strong through his back which meant he maintained his top line on the move. Good rear assembly and correct tail set. Moved out with reach and drive, moved better when moved slightly slower, but he wants to go! I really liked him; he is going to do well in the future. It was a shame he met my DCC winner in the line up today. No hesitation in awarding him RDCC. Yearling Dog (2,0) 1 Hardisty’s Am Ch Blunderhall In Lockdown – Compact hound which moved out well, true fore and aft. Pleasing head with moderate length of neck. Good spring of rib, well-muscled throughout, built well behind and correct tailset. 2 Bell-Thomas’ Amorpapaver Jupiter – Strong hound of a larger mould.
