Brittany Club Of Great Britain

BRITTANY CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN OPEN SHOW Sunday 23rd February 2020

My thanks to the Brittany Club of Great Britain for the invitation to judge and to the competitors who entered under me. I was pleased to have such a lovely entry with some super dogs to go over. All the exhibits were presented in good clean condition which is especially challenging at the moment and I appreciated it. All mouths were good and while there was some variation in size the majority of the exhibits were close to ideal.

PUPPY D (1) 1. Steven’s TARWARD PRACTICAL PATRICK AT SANBOSIER. This 8 month old clear orange and white pup has a strong head with typical cheeky expression, his proportions are correct for his age. He has well laid shoulders, a strong topline, good depth to his chest and curves in all the right places. He has good angulation fore and aft and is well off for bone. On the move he was erratic and distracted but showed enough to prove he has a typical gait. BPD

NOVICE D (0)

POST GRADUATE D (4) 1. Robinson’s TARWARD OUR JOE. I absolutely loved the head of this 2 year old orange and white male. He has the kindest expression while clearly up for play. He used his ears to advantage, his stop is shallow but defined. In body he is still needing to mature, his outline is square and while being on the larger size nothing is overdone. His angulations are correct in front and behind. On the move he showed typical gait which improved each time he went round, he was true coming and going and in profile. He was by far the best moving male on the day but lost out in the challenge on overall maturity. I look forward to seeing him in a year or two. 2. Brown’s SANBOSIER NIRU. Another orange and white male a little older than my first. I preferred the head of 1 especially the muzzle proportions and expression but that said his head is correct and typical. In body this dog has more maturity. He has a deep chest, short loin, strong topline and good coat texture. His angulations are correct. On the move he was a little erratic at times but sound. 3. Hayes and Wilson’s TILLYBIRLOCH OTTO

LIMIT D (2) 1. Wilson’s DENANDMEG MILL REEF. 4 year old black and white male. Another head that I totally loved. Alert and expressive he had great head proportions, his eyes are meltingly dark and cheeky and his short high set ears are used to give that typical breton expression. To be picky I would like a little bit more length of neck but his angulations are good, he has a deep chest, strong topline, short loin and correct croup. My other wish would be for a fraction more leg length to complete the picture but a lovely dog. He did not settle on the move but I am happy to give allowances on movement in a noisy hall as long as I see enough ... and I did. 2. Samardzija’s PATOUCHE LAMBERT. This black and white male is rising 5 years. Head is of correct proportions with a well shaped eye. Good neck into well laid shoulders. He has a strong topline, deep chest, short loin and good angulations front and rear. His movement was sound. Just would prefer a little less of him all over,

OPEN D (3,1) 1. Frost’s PATOUCHE MILORD. At almost 4 years old this tri male is really showing maturity. He has a lovely head shape with correct proportions. To complete the picture he would benefit from a centre blaze but colour is not the main thing I was looking for. My other wish would be for a fractionally darker eye but he has a kind expression and well shaped eyes. He has a well defined neck into correctly placed shoulders. A deep and rounded chest continues into a deep underline. Strong thighs and correct angulations fore and aft. In the class he was unsettled on the move but as the day progressed his movement improved. BD, BOS, RBIS. 2. Cook’s HIGHCLARE ONLY ONE AVEC TAILLISIDE JW. At 2 years old this orange and white male presents a very square picture. For personal preference I find his head a little strong and while he has a typical expression and is masculine I would prefer a little more refinement. He has a strong neck into good shoulders. A short back and deep chest are just let down by a rather pronounced tuck up but he is still young and his body is maturing. He has well muscled thighs. His movement in a small ring was sound. In the dog challenge it was his square outline that clinched his RBD.

VETERAN D (1,1)

SPECIAL WORKING D (2,2)

PUPPY B (5,1) 4 puppies at very different stages of their development 1. Wilson’s DENANDMEG PURE BEAUTY This Black and White girl took my eye immediately. She was not completely comfortable with the experience but she settled down ok. Lovely pretty head with expressive eyes and well used ears. She is a little cob, everything is rounded and despite being the youngest in the class she was the most balanced of all of the girls. She is square with good leg length and a well developed chest while not being overdone at this age. Her movement was puppyish and bouncy but when settled she has a correct gait. Challenging the dog pup later she was more settled on the move and couldn’t be denied. BPB, BPIS 2. Rush’s PATOUCHE PAGAILLE Another black and white girl and very similar in many ways to 1. She has a pretty head and a nice body. Her chest is not as developed as 1 and again she was not completely comfortable with the experience on the day. When she settled her movement improved and when challenging the dog pup she was more together to take RBPIS 3. Cutler’s TARWARD PRECIOUS PEARL WITH JAYRICNBRITS

JUNIOR B (5,1) Another class I found quite difficult to decide as I liked elements of all the dogs and just had to decide my winner on the overall picture presented 1. Cocking & Barnaby’s BONAPARTIST ODETTE AT RUSKINITE 14 month old orange and white bitch. Her head is of correct proportions and she used her ears well. Her eye is a little round but lovely and dark. She is very much a square with a deep chest and round in all the places she should be, she was presented at a good weight. Moved well 2. Southorn’s ROCHUS OTTILIE (AI) Black and white bitch with dark eyes and well used ears. I would prefer more muzzle length. Good neck into correct shoulders, Strong topline and croup. Chest not as deep as 1, moved well once she settled. 3. Gudgin’s JASSENDUE PANDORA

NOVICE B (6) 1. Hammond’s NELLCOTE DE LA RIVIERE OUREAU Striking clear tri. A very attractively proportioned bitch who is well muscled but remains feminine. Her head is well proportioned with an enquiring expression. It would be better still if her orange markings were slightly more defined but her tri pattern is correct. Strong neck and the best forechest of all the bitches. She has a deep chest, short loin and powerful hind quarters. Good sound movement 2. Cottrell’s OPIUM DU CANAL DE LUNEL (IMP FR) Another bitch with a super body. I found her head a little plain with slightly low set ears and nose pigmentation just detracting from the overall impression of alert cheekiness. Strong neck and shoulders into a deep chest with a good barrel. Good positive movement once she got into stride. 3. Cutler’s TARWARD PRECIOUS PEARL WITH JAYRICNBRITS

POST GRADUATE B (4,1) 1. Skeet’s SANBOSIER NAIA This orange and white bitch has a very pretty and feminine head. She presents a very square picture with a short strong back, short loin and correct angulations front and rear. 2. Southorn’s ROCHUS NELKE A slightly younger tri bitch with a very pretty face. Dark eyes and well used ears. Good neck into correct shoulders, Strong topline and croup. Chest not as deep as 1, moved well once she settled. 3. Booth’s ROCHUS OLWEN

LIMIT B (3,1) 1. Ryan’s PATOUCHE JAIMEE This orange and white bitch is so attentive to her handler. She has an alert expression and well used ears, her muzzle could be a little wider. Standing she is a square with a strong, short back, deep chest and super muscles especially her thighs. Moved well. 2. Cutler’s TARWARD LAURA AT JAYRICNBRITS This orange and white bitch has the prettiest of heads with a melting expression in her dark eyes. She is slightly smaller all over than 1 and not as strong in the topline. She moved very well, when stood was not quite as square as 1. 3. Wilson’s LILY DE PASSEMARAIS (IMP FR)

OPEN B (6,2) 1. Southorn’s SH CH ROCHUS JULIET This mature orange and white bitch has pretty much everything you could want. Her head is well proportioned, she has short high set ears and the only thing I can criticise is that her eye is a fraction round. She is square and cobby with good leg length, angulations are correct front and rear. She barely put a foot wrong on the move and just can’t be ignored. For me she was just what I wanted to find, a dog who combines elegance and strength and who screams Brittany. BB, BIS 2. Steven’s PIXBROOK JOYRIDER AT SANBOSIER This orange and white bitch is just off a litter and her coat has suffered as a consequence. She has a lovely head of correct proportions and uses her ears expressively. She is not quite as short in back or as strong a topline as my winner. She has a deep chest and short loin. Well muscled she moved well. 3. Davies’s ROCHUS LOTTIE

VETERAN B (2,1) 1. Robinson’s ROCHUS HAZEL TO TARWARD. This orange and white bitch has a lovely head of correct proportions. She is feminine and looks cheeky and full of fun. Good shoulders into a deep chested body she looked a picture today. She retains her deep orange colour and she was presented in beautiful condition. On the move she was very positive and didn’t put a foot wrong. In the challenge for RBIS she was just beaten by the younger male who pipped her. RBB, BVIS

SPECIAL WORKING B (1) Cottrell’s TOURNESOL INDULGENCE 1. This slightly smaller orange and white bitch has a pretty, feminine head and alert expression. She has a very good front, presents a square picture and as expected coming off a working season she was presented in hard condition. She moved very well.
