Gloucester & District Canine Society Open Show  Saturday February 15th 2020  Judge: Paula Hill   

Firstly, apologies for the delay in producing these critiques, at times life has a habit of overtaking everything. I have to thank the Committee and Exhibitors for accepting me at last minute to replace the original judge, sometimes its good to give up your own enjoyment of showing to help out your local club. It seemed that things were the Committee, but it did not affect the running of the day. A job well done in difficult circumstances.   

Flat Coat Retriever Special Yearling 5 - 0 abs 

1 Peers TWEEDISLE LINDORES 21 month old bitch who was shown in hard condition, she had the edge over the dog with her more positive movement and footfall. Pleasing head, kind eye, good pigment. Lovely reach off neck into OK front assembly, good feet compared with some in the class, still raw in body but will come with age, not in the best of coats but enough quality. She moved freely around the ring to secure the class and BOB. 

2 Pingree CALZEAT GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT TO HEATHRIDGE JW (IMP SWE) 21 month dog who was heavier set than winner, standing he holds himself well and looks a picture, pleasing front with good forehand assembly, strong masculine head, carried on a muscular neck flowing into good topline, feet were OK, again presented in hard condition and he moved well, but not as positive as winner in front.

Flat Coat Retriever Open 2 -0 abs 

1  Pingree CASTLEROCK BURNING LOVE TO HEATHRIDGE JW All male dog who was shown in hard condition, being a bit of a handful which affected his movement as he tends to through his front legs. He has a stunning head all masculine, yet kind and gentle, lovely front with well placed shoulders, deep through ribs, held his topline standing and on the move, nice bend of stifle, strong hocks which he used well driving away. 

2 Gale WILLOWSWIND NETTE LARK JW Small compact bitch of pleasing balance, mature in body, good depth of chest, excels in forehand construction, lovely neat feet, shown in hard condition, she moved well and accurate but lost out on class as she was loosing her topline when standing and on the move.

Irish Setter Junior 3 – 1 abs 

1 Bell & Barker-Bell BALINTYNE LET IT BE ME Beautiful bitch who am sure will have a very bright future, she has the most feminine head, a soulful expression, good pigment, shown in good condition carrying the correct amount of weight, good forehand assemble, which leads into a good topline, deep through chest for age, not in the best of coat but what is there is of good texture and presented to perfection. When she moves, she moves with a long free stride driving well from her muscled hindquarters. Pleased to hear, this class win gave her the last JW point. 

2 Turner GWENDARIFF A GEE AN TEE FOR ME 12 month old bitch who was just out of puppy, wouldn't want to see her any heavier, she has a pleasing head, which she carries well, good length of neck leading into good front assembly, deep through body, didn't have the reach of movement as winner, but moved well around the ring.    

Irish Setter Post Graduate 4 – 3 abs 

1 Hyslop GWENDARIFF ON A ROLLACOASTA Mature bitch, with a strong feminine head, strong muscular neck into OK shoulders, straight forelegs, would prefer tighter feet, good depth of chest with ribs well sprung, well bodied, well bent stifle, shown in good condition, she has strong straight hocks which she uses to her advantage as she drives around the ring, using her tail well.   

Irish Setter Open 5 – 4 abs 

1 Prangle HEATHCLARE AMERICAN DOLLAR JW ShCM I've watched this dog mature over the years and he just improves every time I see him,  upstanding masculine male, with such a gentle head enhanced with perfect pigment, carried on a clean muscular neck of good length leading into well placed shoulders with good layback, straight forelegs with elbows close fitting, chest of good depth with ribs well sprung, he carries the correct amount of weight, which shows in his overall condition of body and coat which was turned out to perfection. When he moves, he moves with a long free stride, moving straight and true and shows good driving action. A joy to watch, as one with his handler and used the ring to their full advantage. Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Special Yearling3 – 1 abs 

1 Warren FIELDRANGER'S KUBLA KHAN 10 month old dog, who was in full coat, standing he presents a pleasing outline, a lovely broad head with correct eye shape and colour, ears well set, length of correct length leading into well laid back shoulders, straight front, well developed chest for age and carrying the correct amount of weight, he was a little unsettled on the move but once into his stride moved well with good head carriage. BOB and BPIB, PG4 

2 Cornes REDGINJAS MAUI 11 month old dog, finer than winner and not as together, pleasing head with correct pigment and eye shape, shown in good condition but not as positive on the move.   

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Open 2 – 0 abs 

1 Trickett RIPPLERUSH ORVAL FOR TOLLPEPPER 2 year old petite, compact bitch who won the class with her more positive movement, very attentive to handler, she stands four-square, on neat feet, straight forelegs, good depth of chest with close fitting elbows, front OK, nice playback of shoulders into a good topline, tail set on and carried well whilst on the move.

AVNSC Gundog Junior 10 – 5 abs 

1 Ainsley & Nicklin DAENERYS SONG OF ICE AND FIRE (ESS) 10 month liver and white bitch, who never put a foot wrong, standing she has a compact outline, beautiful head which just needs to broaden but this will come, lovely pigment and and correct eye shape,ears of good length with feathering just coming, clean neck flowing into textbook shoulder placement, chest of good depth with spring of rib for age, nice moderate bend to stifle, in good muscular condition, she moved effortlessly with good ground coverage around the ring. BOB and BPIB, PG2 

2 James WOODSONG PITCH PERFECT (IMP FRA) (Field Spaniel) 8 month old black bitch who really enjoyed herself, between her and her inexperience handler they pulled out the stops and pushed winner hard, shown in hard condition for age,  head of pleasing type and another with good pigment, neck of good length, lovely shoulder placement and good forehand, legs straight with nice tight feet, well bodied for age, good topline with tail carried straight of her back, she moved with a long stride and shows good driving action from well muscled hindquarters. 

3 Lloyd & Smith CRUMPSBROOK GALANGAL VON RULANDER (AI) (Large Munsterlander)   

AVNSC Gundog Post Graduate 6 – 5 abs 

1 Williams SKIPPIT SKY FULL OF STARS (English Setter) A lovely steady mover with good head carriage, a joy to watch, feminine head with a lovely expression, strong muscular neck of good length, well laid back shoulders into good topline. I liked her depth of chest with close fitting elbows, good tailset and length, well bent stifles with good second thigh, coat of good quality and presented well.   

AVNSC Gundog Open 8 – 4 abs 1 w/d 

1 Miles LAYWAYS VAN WINKLE JW (Vizsla) Well up to size, all male which showed in his strong masculine head carried on a muscular neck with good length, well made all through, tight feet with straight forelegs, lovely level topline standing and on the move, he moved well with a good length of stride. 

2 Furness SHELCASRIE FLINT (ESS) 9 ½ year old black and white, a lot to like about this mature boy, presented to perfection, strongly made all through, wouldn't want him any heavier though, lovely kind head with a gentle expression, compact body with good depth to chest, nice bend of stifle, lovely neat feet, he moved out well showing good driving action from his well muscled hindquarters.   

AV Import Gundog 1 – 0 abs 

1 Stilgoe IR SH CH PERDIZCYO BEATRIZ WITH TEISGOL BJW,18 JWW'18 (Portuguese Pointer) 2 year old bitch of good size, wonderful head with good definition, good ear set, kind eye with good pigment, muscular neck flowing into well laid shoulders, good return of upper arm, deep chest with elbows close fitting, strong hindquarters with good second thigh, on the move you cant help but watch how easy and precise her  footfall is. BOB G2   

AV Gundog Puppy 11 – 4 abs 

1 Havey-Major LINJOR SANSA (Labrador) 10 month yellow bitch, standing four-square and so attentive to her handler, petite in size but perfectly balanced all through, strong in head but not overdone in any way, good pigment, strong neck another with good forehand assembly placing legs well under body, good feet, held her topline whilst moving, shown in hard condition which showed as she moved freely coming and going.

AV Gundog Veteran 13 – 4 abs 

For me, always one of my favourite classes. I really did need more red cards, all exhibits are a credit to their owners and especially their respective breeds. 

1 West SHEIGRA SHINING STAR JW ShCM (Cocker Spaniel) 8 year old black bitch, who is so stylish on the move, she was in hard condition, beautiful sweet head of good balance, very good pigment, carrying the correct amount of weight, good shoulder placement into forehand assembly, short in couplings, lovely bend of stifle with good second thigh, when she moves she has good driving action and covers the ground effortlessly. 

2 Lightfoot GAESTEN JUST JAGO AT JOYDON (Lagotto) 9 ½ year old brown male who pushed the winner hard, nicely made all though with excellent pigment, he has a typical broad head with such appeal, with ears set well on, strong neck leading into well laid back shoulders, deep in chest with ribs well sprung, well bend stiles with good muscle, coat of good texture, he moves with such ease around the ring.

1 Coode WARRINGAH'S THE BLUFF JW (Labrador) Every time I looked around, this young man caught my attention, black lab who stands four-square, so balanced and is so attentive to his handler, he has the most magnificent head, masculine but so soft, the blackest of pigment with kindest of eye, a well muscled neck, good layback of shoulders, with correct length of upper arm, straight forelegs and nice tight feet, well barrelled ribs and carrying just the correct amount of weight, short in couplings, tail carried straight of back, when he moved he moved with such precise footfall fore and after, shown in hard muscular condition and coat of excellent quality, he could not be denied taking the group against his older peers.
