Eastern Counties Rottweiler Club Saturday 22nd February 2020
Judge: Mr Paul Routledge
Firstly, my thanks to Keith Robinson (Secretary), officers and committee of this fantastic breed club for the invitation to judge. I’m sure that the late Kath Hindley will be looking down with pride on how this club is now being taken forward by such a wonderful team. Thanks to my wonderful stewards on the day for keeping the ring flowing. To the judge’s hospitality from Christine, Margaret and Barbara I thank you. And finally, to the exhibitors many thanks for presenting your dog’s today and to taking the placings in the classes with sportsmanship and applause. And credit to you all for us having to take the decision to be moved indoors and adapting to those conditions, before the completion of dog judging due to the adverse weather.
Overall today’s dogs presented were in good condition with no temperament issues.
Class 1, Veteran Dog or Bitch (6, 2A) I applaud all the exhibitors for giving me a lovely start to the day with some fantastic veterans who have and still are representing the breed fantastically.
1st Borne DORTMUND DODGING BULLETS AT TREVEARL. 7‐year‐old male. I judged this dog a couple of years ago and said then he was a dog that deserved his Ch title and I still stand by that. Good masculine head with lovely expression, good dark almond shaped eye with good ear placement. Dentition was good. Excellent front angulation with depth of chest and well‐placed shoulder placement, straight legs and tight feet. Level top line which was maintained on moving. Well‐muscled rear and moderate angulation with correct tailset. Movement was with purpose with good reach and drive. With the colour I would prefer a clearer tan. A real credit to the owners. Pleased to award him Best Veteran in Show.

Class 11, Puppy Bitch (4) 1st Topham & Maltas WILDHEART ATHENA AT VIRLEES. Approaching nearly 12 months and her last puppy class today. With her head I would prefer cleaner lines though there is still a lot to like. Skull is a good width with a good dark eye and well‐set ears. Strong neck with an excellent front, fore chest and straight legs with good tight feet. Solid level top line. Rear angulation was well muscled with suitable bend of stifle and strong hocks. Her movement in side profile displayed an excellent reach and drive with tail carried corretly. If to want anything from her it would be a stronger clearer tan, but that’s cosmetic and does not take away the overall quality. She worked well and was also handled well.
