Mid Western Gundog Society
I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee of Mid-Western Gundog Society for inviting me to judge at this show. It was a most enjoyable day and I greatly appreciated the opportunity of the appointment, which allowed me to Judge many quality dogs.
Golden Retriever (Bitches)
Puppy Bitch (9, 3abs)
1ST Healey Ms M, Marsabit Vanity Fair: Absolutely beautiful young bitch of just 11 months of age. Extremely well balanced with a classical feminine head, requisite chiselling under the eyes and very best of expressions and dark eye. Correct, clean and complete dentition with strong underjaw. Excellent forehand assembly with correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Very good depth and width to chest with elbows on brisket, good length and spring of ribcage into strong loin. Well made hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle not exaggerated in any way. Quality bone of excellent substance throughout and neatest feet and corresponding short nails, which I was pleased to observe. On the move she demonstrated good forward reach and drive from the rear and showed a good open sidegate. She resists her handler when moving fore and aft, which in turn throws her front action out of sync with the rest of her movement so, more work on this please and perhaps I could respectfully suggest the handler slackening the lead which this bitch was clearly resisting. Presented in excellent coat and condition. I would predict a very promising future awaits this quality exhibit. Best Puppy In Breed
2ND Thomson, Mrs A J, Soneve Beaujolais Chenas: A quality exhibit of just 7 months of age who deserved her place in this line-up today. Very well balanced. Correct, complete and clean dentition. Feminine head with a lovely kind expression and dark eye. Correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good width to chest and good length of ribcage. Well made hindquarters with excellent super quality bone and feet. Tight, neat feet with the shortest of nails. Moved well and accurately for one so young.
3RD Cope, Miss, Tenfield Fortune Bay
Junior Bitch (4)
1ST Todd, Mrs P T, Toddrosa Oasis Charm: Quality bitch of 17 months of age. I thought this bitch to be extremely well-balanced, free from any exaggeration and symmetrical all through. Dentition correct, clean and complete with full dentition and a scissor bite. Very feminine but balanced head that is well chiselled with dark eyes. She has excellent forehand construction, which she used on the move demonstrating good forward extension in side profile. Deep in brisket of good width and well ribbed with balanced and short-coupled body. Hindquarters both strong and muscular with good width to second thigh. Moved accurately both fore, aft and in side profile maintaining a level topline at all times and showing drive from her hindquarters. Stands square hock to heel with excellent bone and feet with the shortest of nails. Presented in beautiful condition with full coat.
2ND Healey Ms M, Marsabit Vanity Fair
3RD Easton & Turner, Mrs P & Ms R, Amilone Spirit Of The Stone
Yearling Bitch (8, 3abs)
1ST Todd, Mrs P T, Toddrosa Oasis Charm
2ND Easton & Turner, Mrs P & Ms R, Amilone Spirit Of The Stone: I really liked this bitch who was extremely well presented and shown. She has a very good head that was feminine without any coarseness and darkest of eyes, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck leading to well paced shoulders, good width and depth to brisket, ribs well sprung and moderately angulated hindquarters that were well muscled. Very good bone and neat feet with short nails – for me, she was half a size bigger than what I was looking for on the day.
3RD Rees, Mrs K A, Catenae Darling Buds Of May
Graduate Bitch (8)
1ST Clunie, Miss K, Warrentor Caipirinha JW: A 2½ year old bitch who upon entering the ring had that extra ‘something’ in her attitude and presence. Standing she has everything that I look for in this breed, character and attitude, balance, type and workmanlike all through and totally free from exaggeration especially in the hindquarters. Of medium size, excellent feminine head, well chiselled, dark eye and kind expression, correct, clean and complete dentition with scissor bite, strong neck of moderate length leading into extremely well placed shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest of good width, well sprung ribs and short muscular loin, strong hindquarters, which were well muscled and the second thigh was of good width
On the move she was accurate both fore and aft driving from the rear and extending in front and demonstrated a superb side profile. She was very well presented and handled on the day and without doubt very fit. Quality bone all through, tight neat feet and short nails. My absolute pleasure award her Best Bitch. In the challenge for Best of Breed my co-judge and I could not agree and the referee decreed that the dog should go forward. I was however delighted that this bitch later won the Reserve Best of Breed Stakes, which I believe her worthy of and especially when one considers that it was judged by an extremely experienced Golden Retriever breed specialist from a Top Kennel.
