I would like to thank the society for their kind invitation to judge hound breeds and the group at this well organised show.  I received a warm welcome and also excellent hospitality.  Also I would  like to thank the exhibitors for entering their dogs under me and  my 2 hard working stewards.  I very much enjoyed my day and I had some lovely dogs to judge.

Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) J (3, 1ab)  1 McCartney’s Ch. Soletrader Freddie Mercury.    16 month old tri D.  Very pleasing head with typical Petite expression and characteristics.  Dark eye with low set  ears.  Good lay back to shoulder and tight at elbows.  Neat feet. Good hind angulation and  a level top line held on the move.  Well boned and in lovely coat.  A confidant dog who moved well.  Handled and shown to advantage.  BOB and HG1.  2 Wheeler’s Jacmist Tuesdays Child  6 month old B at an early stage in her show career.  Dark eye giving a gentle expression with good ear set.  Well angulated fore and rear.  Coat developing nicely.  A puppy with a happy disposition who just needs to settle and gain confidence.  BP and RBOB.

Beagle  J (1)  1  Caple’s Morsefield Mudlark 11 month saddle tri D.  This puppy shows a lovely clean outline with good depth to chest in a neat front with elbows well tucked in. A dark eye gives a kind expression. Well boned with good tight feet. Well bent stifles and well held stern.  Just needs to settle on the move.  BP and RBOB.  PG (2)  1 Morsefield Mudlark   2  Murphy’s Rhosyndu Born To Run    .  Rising 4 y.o. saddle tri D.  Attractively marked and well boned.  He has a decent length of neck leading to a tidy front with good depth to chest.  Kept a level top line on the move.  Just not the bend of stifle of 1st.  O  (2,1)  1  Murphy’s Black Royal at Rhosyndu.  Rising 5 year old saddle tri D. Well off for bone and in good body condition and muscle tone.  Dark eye giving an alert expression. Feet tight and firm.  Well ribbed with good depth to chest.  Moved well keeping a level top  line.  BOB.   HG4

Dachshund (Long-Haired) J (1)  1  Eve’s Sundayshill Benedict   Shaded red D just out of puppy.  Lovely front, tight at elbow.  Attractive, masculine head with dark, almond eye.  Well boned with tight feet and of good length to body with matching angulation fore and aft. Held a level top line and moved well.  BOB. O  (2)  1 Eve’s Sundayshill Hermione 3 ½ y. o. shaded red B.  Lovely head with dark eye.  Front well filled.  Neat, tight feet.  Shoulders well laid back with corresponding good hind angulation.  Well muscled hind quarters.  Moved with a level top line.  RBOB.  2  Marsh’s A Touch of Magic at Marshwick  3 ½ y. o. B/T D.  Masculine head and dark eye.  Well boned and low to ground.  Tight at elbow.  Not the top line of 1st.

Dachshund (Smooth-Haired)  PG   (2,1)  1 Marsh’s Marshwick Ace of Spades.  2 ½ y.o. B/T D.   Attractive head with dark eye.  Tidy front and underline with good depth to chest.   Smooth ribcage carried well back. Moved steadily. O (2)  1  Hunt’s Ch. Lauralee Huckleberry Finn at Carpaccio    3 y. o. red D.  This dog has an attractive head, proudly carried with darkest of eyes and an alert  expression.  He has a beautiful, well filled front topped by an elegant neck of good length.  Well off for bone.  Ribbing carried well back. Angulation good showing off a pleasing outline.  Moved well keeping a level top line.  BOB  HG3  2   Marsh’s Marshwick Black Princess  2 ½ y. o. B/T B.  She has a feminine expression with a dark eye.  Well laid shoulder and elbows tight against body.  Smooth ribbing and a well covered body.  Moved steadily.  RBOB.

Dachshund (Wire-Haired)  J  (4,2)   1  Rowe’s  Boloria’s Miss Dior  16 month chocolate brindle B.  Attractive head with dark eye and lovely furnishings.  Tidy front, elbows tight and good depth to chest.  Decent lay back of shoulder leading to good body length with ribs carried well back.  Moved well.  RBOB.    2  Brookes’  Elderkine Simply Red at Tenbrooksher  9 month red brindle puppy D.    He has a masculine head with dark eye and furnishings developing.  Well off for bone, well ribbed and bodied.  Good hindquarters.  A very exuberant puppy who was enjoying his day out – I liked him very much.  BP.   PG  (4,2)  1 Rowe’s  Boloria’s Aramis   15 month litter brother to Junior winner.  Many of the same attributes apply.  A lovely boy, well off for bone.  Well filled front and deep through chest with elbows held neatly against body.   Decent length to neck and body.  Stern set on well.  Moved briskly.  BOB.  2 Wheeler’s Waggington Aurora.  Rising 2 dark brindle B.  Nicely furnished head with dark eye giving a gentle expression.  Well boned and bodied.  A cobbier type than 1.

Dachshund (Min Long-Haired)  J (2)  1 McCarthy’s Nagshall Dutch Odyssey  9 month shaded red D.  Very attractive head with appealing dark eye. Well off for bone and lovely tight feet.  Shoulders well laid back leading to a level top line.  Shown in full coat.  Moved well.  BP and RBOB. 2  Le Page’s Thelepees Pennyblack Silk  15 month B/T B. Tidy front with good angulation both ends.  Well boned and tight feet.  Just seemed a little unsure of herself today.  PG  (3)  1  Le Page’s Willowheath Freddie Mercury with Thelepees Rising 3 B/T D. A smaller type than some but well put together. Good fore chest and well ribbed with a level top line. 2 Nagshall Santa Cruz  13 month shaded red D.  Lovely head and gentle expression.  Tidy front and well ribbed showing a level topline.  A rangy boy at present and needs to mature.  Moved well. 3 O’Neill’s Thelepees Kacy Cotton Sox  O (3)  1 Wallace’s Willowheath Rebel Rock  3 y.o. B/T D.  A lovely head showing a keen and alert expression.  Fore chest prominent and well filled. Ribbing good and carried well back.  Well coated.  The best mover.  BOB  2  McCarthy’s Nagshall Love Constantly  JW  2 y.o. B/T B.  Very feminine and has a gentle expression.  Fore chest, top line and angulation all good.  Moved well.  Unlucky to meet 1.  3  Le Page’s Thelepees Polly Ester

Dachshund (Min Smooth-Haired)  J (3)  Three lovely puppies in this very even class – sadly there could only be one winner.  1  Ergis’  Moragden Matthew by Siouxline. Just 6 months old red D.  Lovely head proportions with dark almond-shaped eyes. Long neck running into a very neat and tidy front.  Ribs carried well back in a well covered body. Neat feet.  Front and rear angulation so good.  Moved well.  BP and RBOB  2 Gentle’s Dimogen Stargazer 11 ½ month B/T D. Another super puppy with lots to like.  Attractive head and dark eye. Good fore chest and lay back of shoulder with elbows tight to chest.  Strong, well muscled hindquarters and moved well with a level top line.  I’m sure these 2 dogs could change places on another day.  3  Mills’  Oniasid Black Bomber  PG (3,1)  1 Protheroe’s Royalmaple Evil Edna 2 1/2 y.o. red B.  Good head proportions.  Long body with slight rise over loin.  Good hindquarters and moved with hocks well apart and parallel. 2  Mills’  Oniasid Pussy Galore 3 ½ y.o. B/T B. A sweet little girl with dark eye and gentle expression.  A cobbier type than 1 with not the length of fore face or length of body. Neat feet and moved well. O  (3)   1  Hunt’s Carpaccio Clarice Cliff JW   2 ¼ y.o. B/T B.  A lovely girl, very feminine with a good dark eye.  Lengthy neck leading into strong front.  Ribs well covered and carried well back with slight rise over loin.  Good bone and tight, well knuckled feet. Good angulation fore and aft. Moved very well. BOB  2  Protheroe’s Royalmaple Fiddle Sticks  2 ½ y. o. B/T B.  Good head proportions and good ear set. Prominent fore chest. Dachshund (Min Wire-Haired)  J (6,1)  1  Rankine’s Fallowmill Pumpkin Pie  6 months dark brindle B.  A super puppy, full of quality.  Lovely head and furnishings with good dark eye.  Strong neck leading into prominent fore chest. Good length of body, well covered and ribbing carried well back with rise over loin. Appropriate angulation both ends.  Strong bone and tidy feet. Should do well. BOB and BP. 2  Mill’s Middleton Hunt At Oniasid 6 month red brindle B.  Good length, well ribbed and covered.  Tidy feet.  Moved steadily. 3  West’s  Archidax Dark Phoenix  PG  (3,1)  1  Howell’s Fallowmill As If By Magic  Dark brindle, another cracking puppy, litter brother to winner of Junior and the same remarks apply.  Good head, furnishings coming along.  Reachy neck leading into firm body with good angulations. Moved well. RBOB  2  Mill’s Tythe Douglas Haigh at Oniasid  2 ½ y.o. dark brindle D.  Good head proportions and prominent fore chest.  A more compact dog than 1.  Lovely temperament.  Moving a touch wide today. O (5,1)  1  West’s  Byabye Brillare With Archidax 2 ¾ y.o. red B. Very feminine with an appealing head and dark eye. Neat front with good lay back of shoulder and well angulated hind quarters. Moved well. 2  Howell’s  Blackvein Vixen At Fallowmill  15 month dark brindle B.  Good front with body well covered.  Not the length of 1.  Moved a touch close behind at times today.  3  Gilks’ Ridanflight Rockin Rita At Birichino

AVNSC Hound  P  (2)  1  Baker’s Itury Puzzle Something Strange Happens At Silverbriar (Imp Rus)  6 month red and white Basenji D. Well put together.  Good ear set and alert expression.   Good shoulder lay back, elbows tucked in and well sprung ribs.  Tight curl to tail. Well schooled and enjoying his day out.  Best AVNSC Hound P.  2  Thornton’s Mochras Hemlock  6 month Basset Fauve de Bretagne  D.  A first time out for this young man and a raw baby at the moment but showing a lot of potential. Lovely head and dark eye with a typical expression.  Short neck leading to tidy front.  Well off for bone.  He was just out for a good time today. Y (2,1)  1  Thornton’s Mochras Mahcushla  Ir Jun Ch   Basset Fauve de Bretagne  Just out of Junior now and I have judged this bitch before as a puppy.  She has matured into a lovely example of the breed.  Well made with a good out line and angulation.  Tight at elbow and ribs well sprung.  Lovely harsh coat.  Full of enthusiasm and moved very well. Best AVNSC Hound.  O  1  (3,2)  Matthews’ Flugelberry Free Cuba  Basenji  3 y.o. red/white D.  Attractive masculine head with well placed ears.  Well put together with good fore hand angulation, also rear angulation with low set hocks. Tight curl to tail.  A little distracted by the noise in the hall today.  Res. Best AVNSC Hound.

1  Quant’s Woodweaver Moon Dust  Whippet  7 y.o. fawn/white D.  Well put together showing a clean outline.  Gentle expression. Good length to neck, deep chest, ribs well sprung and correct amount of tuck up. Moved well. 2  Tottle’s  Montventure Frosted Soul  Whippet 6 y.o. fawn/white B.  Attractive little girl with a calm expression.  Deep chested, ribs carried well back, firm bodied.   Moved steadily. 3  Matthew’s  Flugelberry Cherie Trifle  Basenji

AV Lynn Wall Open Stakes (23,15)  1  Groves’ and Lafford’s Lateagain Satisfaction JW  Dobermann  3 y.o. B/T D.  Really lovely upstanding boy.  Shows a beautiful outline, well muscled, strong neck leading to well laid shoulders.  Deep through chest and well ribbed.  Hocks well let down.  Tail set just right.  Moved well.  2  Bell’s Jusanin Glenister  Poodle (Miniature)  9 ½ y.o. black D.  A lovely veteran boy not giving away any clue to his age. Good for make and shape.  Alert and moved very well.  3  Coggins’ and Adams’ Droveborough DCI Lewis at Gemrose  Pointer
