Stoke On Trent & District Gundog Club

Stoke on Trent & District Gundog Club.

Thank you to the committee for the invite. Across the three breeds here today I was particularly impressed by the condition and presentation of most of the exhibits. There were a lot of very well exercised dogs present!

German Shorthaired Pointer

Puppy (1 entry)

1st, BOB & BP Pocock’s Fayemm Sea the Stars This was a very nice solid liver puppy dog. Very well conditioned. Lovely head and expression with correct dentition. Correct square outline, good length of upper arm and well angulated rear meant he moved well with great drive.

Post Graduate (1 entry)

1st Pocock’s Fayemm Sea the Stars

As previous

German Wirehaired Pointer

Post Graduate (3 entries, 0 absent)

1st. & RBOB Donnelly’s Kimmax Who Kares Wins JW Perfect scissor bite with sparkling clean teeth! Great wirey coat and in excellent muscle tone. Textbook outline of a GWP – slightly longer than square with some slope without being exaggerated. Moved well in profile.

2nd. Donnelly’s Beechillawn Oooh Betty Another very nice GWP that was second by only a whisker. Preferred the head and expression on this bitch to first but slightly shorter in upper arm which meant she didn’t have the reach of my winner.

3rd. Gerard’s Germanus Gotta Believe

Open (4 entries, 2 absent)

1st & BOB McCullough’s Kimmax Koz I Can Lovely proportioned head and an expression that made me wonder why we don’t have GWP’s anymore! Excellent coat and presented very well. A good depth of chest and correctly proportioned outline. Moved well.

2nd. Donnelly’s Sh Ch Kimmax Knock Yourself Out JW ShCM Another close class. The was very obviously a DOG with a very masculine head. Moved more erratically than 1st.

Retriever (Flat Coated)

I love judging FCR’s – they are always happy, lively and fidgety. I never leave the ring without a smile and today was no exception.

Puppy (6 entries, 3 absent)

1st , RBOB & BP Buckley’s Steelriver Hit the Beach with Buckleyhill Good head – correct dentition, correct proportion of head with a slight stop. Would have preferred a bit more depth and width of chest but this will come with maturity. Another well-muscled dog with very glossy coat. Moved the best of his class with a lovely flowing movement.

2nd. Salt’s Levelmoor Blackadder A nice headed bitch. I’d prefer a bit more substance to her and she needs muscle tone to tighten up her movement coming and going. Good coat.

3rd. Salt’s Levelmoor Acorn Antiques via Wetnoses

Junior (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Buckley’s Steelriver Hit the Beach with Buckleyhill As previous

2nd. Gilchrist & Smitherman’s Wistaston Lucky Choice of Ardmhor Preferred the overall proportions of this to 1st, especially the depth of chest. Good length of rib and a nice short loin. Preferred the stronger hocks and more accurate movement of the class winner.

3rd. Salt’s Levelmoor Blackadder

Post Graduate (2 entries, 1 absent)

1st & BOB Haley’s Skybrook Honey Honey Another bitch with good muscle tone. Long jaws, slight stop and small well-set ears. Nice depth and width of chest. Rear angulation good without being overdone. Stood foursquare and moved really soundly and straight as a die – effortlessly flowing around the ring.

Open (1 entry) 1st. Buckley’s Buckleyhill Finava Legacy (AI) A very masculine head, perhaps a fraction too strong for me. Good deep chest but would have benefited from more upper arm. Correct body proportions overall but short ribs and long loin. Coat needs some attention and moved rather close behind so couldn’t go any further today.
