8th February 2020

A real delight to judge at this friendly show and I thank the committee for the kind invitation. A good entry for this day and age and so a late finish, I would also like to thank the exhibitors for their patience and good humour. I had the pleasure of some excellent stewards today, which made my day even more enjoyable. Thank you.

Best in Show went to the young but impressive Neapolitan Mastiff. Mafi’s TOMMASO GOFREDOS TARO. What a really good dog this is, still not finished but brim full of quality and his soundness is amazing. His head is a delight without any form of exaggeration, yet still typical. He is in optimum condition and his movement was a joy to watch. His owners/ breeders are to be commended.

Reserve Best In Show was the really lovely Pekingese Thomas’ MERITOROUS DAZZLE N DAZE. This breeder is certainly producing some top class Pekes at the moment and this is definitely one of them. Presented to perfection and so very sound on the move. His head and expression are a delight. Excellent body shape and first-class front. Picks up heavy. Champion in the making for sure.

Best Puppy In Show: The Belgian Shepherd Dog (Groendendael) Morris’ CAIRBAR SPELLBINDING. What an exciting prospect this is. Super for type and already all of a piece. Her head and expression impressed me, she is of the correct shape and in good coat. On her toes at all times and attentive. Her movement was brisk and totally sound. Has a future I’m sure. Really good one

Reserve Best Puppy in Show and by a whisker was the equally delightful Dachshund (Wire Haired) Matthews’ WYENOT COME FLY WITH ME OVER SONHAM. Really impressed me when going over as she is totally balanced and has a super shape. Super head properties, firm topline and well-set tail. Coat of excellent texture. On the move she is super sound and has some style to her too. In superb condition. Really liked her and it was the fact that after a long day, her attention just started to wain a little on the move that tipped the balance. Another that I hope will carry a title.

Best Veteran In Show went to the evergreen Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Davies’ CH & RUS CH ERMYN SNOW KNIGHT. What a cracker and totally belying his 11 years. Superb head and expression, strong neck and firm topline. In the most amazing condition. His movement was an object lesson to some of the youngsters and on this form, I could still see him winning CC’s. A joy to judge

Reserve Best Veteran in Show went to a favourite of mine, the Beagle Roderick’s BARTERHOUND RAZZLE. She is such a charmer and another who belies her age. Typically Beagle and always on the look out for that sausage, she is still super sound. Full of type, in super condition and absolutely enjoying her day out.
