Gloucester & District Canine Society

A delightful show with super hard-working Committee. Thank you for the invitation to judge, the hospitality and wonderful gifts. A very lovely day indeed.

Best In Show.

Each dog performed very well but my ultimate choice for BIS was Winter & Unwin’s Morningcalm White Wizard at Snowtrekka (AI), Korean Jindo who won through from the utility group under Brunette Greenland. White boy. Head of very good proportions. Blunt triangle in shape and free from wrinkle. Medium stop and slight furrow. Eyes almond in shape, not overly big and well placed giving the desired expression. Ears medium in size and inclining slightly forward. Very balanced angulation all through. Neck slightly arched and showing no dewlap. Firm topline. Slightly longer than tall. Moderate tuck up. Tail set high and carried over the back. Great bone. A super showman who has the perfect gait in all directions. I believe this is a first such win for the breed. Very well done. Super boy.

For RBIS I chose the absolutely splendid Pekingese Oades’ Zhong Nobel Khan by Brentoy who won the toy group under Amber Henshaw. A lion of a dog built on super lines. Head wider than deep and flat between ears. Broad between eyes. Nostrils large and open. Firm in underjaw. Black nose. Eyes good for shape. Ears set level with skull. Super body with typical waist. Picks up well. Broad chest. Level topline. Strong legs. Well angulated fore and aft. Tail set high. In great bloom. Looking an absolute picture on the table and has he moved round the ring with that typical roll.

Best Puppy In Show

Another good line up here, but my standout winner was put through from the utility puppy group by Brunette Greenland in the form of the Lhasa Apso Clutterbuck & Cain’s Kutani Showoff.  The perfect name. Really classy dog. Super eye-catching puppy with beautiful outline. Skull is moderately narrow and well-proportioned against length of muzzle. Lovely eyes for shape, set and colour.  Strong underjaw. Typical expression. Well arched neck. Well angulated front with good width. Chest developing well. Longer than tall in body with excellent topline and ribs extending well back. Firm loins. Good turn of stifles and low set hocks. Cat like feet. Jaunty on the move and very sound indeed. Coat coming along well. Presentation of the top order. I shall watch this one’s career with great interest.

My RBPIS won through from the Pastoral Group under Steve Bennett. Pierce’s Philhope Summer Flame, Sheltie. This youngster displays much quality. Typical head with correct parallel head planes and is long enough. Blunt wedge. Good underjaw. Almond eyes which are obliquely set. Ears set well on top of the head with tips falling forward. Elegant neck. Very good angulation fore and aft. Well boned but retains the required elegance. Well proportioned body. Chest reaches to elbows and has enough width. Lovely sweep over loins. Well bent stifles and low set hocks. Very sound out and back and really covers the ground in profile. Tail reaches below hock and is held well on the move. A little more confidence will no doubt elevate her to even higher placings. Very promising.

Best Veteran In Show

In this line up , two stood out for me and it was quite a tussle. Ultimately the nod went to the Siberian put through by Steve Bennett. BVIS Taylor-Morris’ and Taylors’ Ch Pelenrise Brite Knight JW ShCM. An upstanding Champion who scores in many departments. Very typical head with lovely almond shaped eyes which are obliquely set. High set ears. Medium stop. Masculine without being overdone. Arched neck. Moderate angulation to shoulder with sufficient return of upper arm. Medium bone for size. Chest deep and just enough length of foreleg. Firm topline with slight arch over loins. Stifles well tuned.  Low hocks. In very good coat. Excels in profile gait being effortless and ground covering.

My RBVIS was put through by Brunette Greenland. Plummer’s Tetsikarma Stargazer ShCM SHCEX VW, Tibetan Terrier. I felt this dog to be an excellent representative of his breed. Skull is medium in length and in good proportion to the body. Strong muzzle with good underjaw. Length from eye to tip of nose equal to length from eye to occiput. Neck medium in length. Square body in outline with well-balanced angulation fore and aft. Firm level topline. Short loins. Large feet. Tail set high and carried well on the move. Super gait. In excellent coat.

Puppy Stakes

1st: Ainsley & Nicklins’ Daenerys Song Of Ice And Fire. English Springer Spaniel. Developing well. Slightly rounded skull. Occiput prominent. Deep muzzle. Eyes correct for shape, set and ok for colour. Ears of correct length and width and set in line with eyes. Correct degree of stop. Arched neck. Well angulated fore and aft and displaying a very good gait. Firm in body and muscular condition. Well presented.

2nd: Stewart & Straaijer Qunack’s Favour Light For Twybrook (imp NLD). Kooikerhonje. Enchanting breed and this one took my eye. Typical head with skull to muzzle roughly equal and slight wedge. Almond shaped eyes. Ears medium size and set just above level of eyes. Black featherings still to develop. Medium length to neck. Displays moderate angulation fore and aft. Flowing gait with sufficient reach and drive.

3rd: Beresford’s Hamadryas Isolde For Karmavonbez. GSD

Junior Stakes

1st: Connett, Agard, Takahashi, Harrold & Cain’s Xeralane’s Born To Be Remarc-able at Kutani (Imp USA). A smart Lhasa in super coat and condition. Good head furnishings. Head typical in shape. Eyes of correct shape and dark in colour. Strong underjaw. Typical Lhasa expression. Medium length to neck and moderate lay to shoulders. Straight, firm topline. Moderate turn of stifles. High set tail. Moves with delightful ease and power. Very well presented.

2nd: Beresford’s Hamadryas Isolde For Karmavonbez. I thought this GSD was nice in body with good angulation fore and aft. Deep chest and well ribbed. Head is typical enough with good skull to muzzle proportions. Ears set high. Eyes of good shape and colour. Well off for bone. Sound in profile gait, but needs to firm up behind. Well handled.

3rd: Dunn’s Mamorikensha Anzu Tamiko. Japanese Akita Inu. Special mention for this young dog who I felt was extremely standard fitting with an excellent expression. Just needs to firm up behind to move up the line. Promising and very well handled.

Open Stakes

1st: Anderson & Scales’ Zentarr Osbourne. Lhasa. Looking very good here and maturing so well. Very typical head with enough strength and correct for width. Length of muzzle is correct for the breed. Reachy neck without being over long. Very good angulation fore and aft. Body longer than tall. Well ribbed back.  Nice straight legs. Good topline and underline. Tail set high. Cat like feet. Moves with typical reach and drive and a very flowing action. Coat is looking in good order and correct texture. Very well handled.

2nd: West’s Sheigra Super Special JW. A very merry solid black Cocker Spaniel who filled my eye. Lovely and compact. Super head with lovely shape to skull and square muzzle. Well-proportioned through the head. Eyes are dark brown and give a gentle expression. Medium length to neck set into well angulated shoulders. Strong compact body. Deep chest. Well sprung ribs. Well bent stifles. Tail set on correctly. Very sound on the move displaying nice reach and drive.

3rd: Sewell’s Wintonia Hidden Gem At Quattrozampe

Special Beginners Stakes

1st: Warners’ Talanors Time For Fun. Up to size and striking Manchester Terrier. Long skull that is flat and reasonably narrow. Wedge shape. Cheeks perhaps a tad strong. Almond shaped eyes which are dark in colour. Ears small and well set. Medium angulation. Deep body. Firm topline. Slightly arched loins. Very sound on the move which ultimately won him this class.

2nd: Plummers’ Gandaki Bust A MoveTo Tetsikarma. Very sound moving Tibetan Terrier. Displays a good degree of breed type. Well constructed all through and very sound on the move. In excellent condition and handled to perfection.
