BRIARDS

I would like to thank the exhibitors in this delightful breed for the super entry and apologise for the lateness of this critique due to a family bereavement and also being a front-line worker having to work long hours and live away from home. I look forward to a time when we can resume dog shows safely.

JUNIOR DOG OR BITCH 7 (2 abs)

What a lovely class of youngsters at varying stages of development and maturity and bodes well for the future of the breed. Some would have benefited from a larger ring to get in their stride on the move.

1. Parry’s Stormymoon Summer. This 10 month old fawn young lady is certainly a very exciting prospect and completely captivated me on the day. She scored very highly for her overall balance, shape and proportions. She is not exaggerated in any way. For a puppy, she has great substance, width to chest and strength throughout with great bone and muscle. She has a strong but feminine head, which is well proportioned with really good width to muzzle. Her dark eyes give her the required gentle expression. She was shown in excellent coat and handled so well. She moves so very well in all directions with a very sound workmanlike gait, looking as if she could certainly do the job she was bred for and go all day if required. I shall follow her career with great interest in the future. I could not get past her for top honours and was delighted to award her BPIB, BOB and delighted to see her gain 2nd in a very strong Pastoral Puppy Group. Many congratulations.

2. Coleman’s Jandade Shooting Star to Hartswelin

A lovely black 16 month old young lady, who is another great example of the breed. She scores very highly in her head properties with a delightful expression. She is well angulated front and rear and she really impresses on the move in all directions. She is currently going through a typical teenage stage and just did not have the overall balance as the puppy, but one with a very bright future I am sure.

3. Hall’s Bargemon St Emilion

POST-GRADUATE DOG OR BITCH 2 (1 abs)

1. Coleman’s Jandade Shooting Star to Hartswelin

OPEN DOG OR BITCH 3 (1 abs)

1. Parry’s Stormymoon Untamed Irish

A substantial mature black male, who has strength throughout with great bone and body and super width to chest. He has a very pleasing head, which is very masculine. He is well angulated front and rear and presents a well balanced picture, although I would not want him any heavier. He was shown in great coat and hard muscular condition. He moved well in all directions and did push his younger kennelmate hard for top honours, but had to give way to the puppy on the day. I see he and the puppy are the same way bred and congratulations must go to their breeder. Pleased to award him RBOB.

2. Kass’s Fostebrie Venchi Star at Kimariaz JW

This was another very appealing fawn male, who has a lot to like and has a very pleasing head, which is correctly proportioned and gentle expression. He is well angulated front and rear with good length of neck. He was somewhat lacking in coat on the day and did not quite have the rear movement of the winner on the day. However, he is one that certainly would have benefited from a larger ring.
