Dukeries [Notts] Gundog Club

Dukeries (Notts) Gundog Club 5th January 2020

Many thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge this friendly and well organised show. Also, thanks to my very friendly and efficient stewards. All dogs, in the four breeds, had correct bites and all males were intact. The floor surface left a lot to be desired and certainly unsettled some of the younger dogs, but the presumed lack of ring craft training also contributed to the poor handling on display.

 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

Puppy 2. Both puppies were rather unsettled 1. Barrass’ Avifors Nundus. 6 month old dog who displayed the correct outline for the breed. Nicely proportioned head with correct pigmentation and correct ear placement. Good angulation both front and rear with nice bend of stifle. Nice length of neck. Good length of back, short coupled and good depth of rib. Un-settled on the move but displayed some of the effortless drive.  2.Pearce’s Avifors Occamys. A nice, compact, 6 month old bitch, litter sister to 1. Her rather unsettled display rather spoilt her chances, but displayed many of the qualities of her brother, although shorter in the couplings. Good angulation, front and rear. Nice feminine head.

Junior 1. 1. Pearce’s Cal I Co Ngd Got the Look. Six and three-quarter month old dog. This youngster was settled and happy in the ring. Correct head set on medium length of neck. Good angulation front and rear. Good top-line with good depth of rib and short coupled. Nice bend of stifle. Moved well. BP and RBOB.

Open 1. 1. Griffin-Woods’ Migwell Solomon’s Puzzle. Almost three year old dog. Good masculine head in correct proportions, set on medium length and muscular neck. Good angulation front and rear although I would have liked a little more bend of stifle. Good depth of rib and short coupled. Moved well, displaying strong and powerful movement. BOB.

Curly Coat Retrievers

Puppy 1. 1.Whitehead’s Fleetwoods Sundevil Empress. This 6 month old black puppy bitch was very unsettled in her first show. Nice compact outline. Feminine wedge -shaped head with correct pigmentation, set on a good length of strong neck. Well laid back shoulders with good straight forelegs. Good deep chest and short-coupled. Good rear angulation with well muscled hindquarters. Moved reasonably well but very unsettled. BP.

Junior 2. 1. Mercer & Thomas’ Tyneside’s My Heart Will Go On To Stormacre (Imp USA).  13 month old black bitch. Looked very nice on outline. Good feminine, wedge shaped head with correct pigmentation. Good, strong neck. Well laid back shoulders and straight front legs. Good top-line and depth of chest. Good rear angulation and good bend of stifle. Moved with drive and good extension. Pushed hard for top honours. RBOB. 2. Whitehead’s Fleetwoods Sundevil Empress.

Open 2. 1abs. 1. James’ Kahawei Teal JW. 20 month old black bitch. Nice outline when stood. Good feminine wedge-shaped head set on a good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and straight front legs. Good depth of chest and short coupled. Good top-line with correct tail placement. Moved with a powerful gait and good extension. BOB

Golden Retrievers

Puppy 2. 1.Foreman’s Ambersun Lost In Music. 6 month old, mid-gold bitch. A symmetrical balanced puppy. Happy and outgoing and tail never stopped. Nice head for age, balanced and set on good length of neck. Shoulders well laid back and close fitting elbows. Good top-line with tail carried level. Short coupled and good depth of rib. Well bent stifles. Nice cat-like feet. Moved reasonably well with some drive but straight and true. BP.  2.Foreman’s Ambersun Alive And Kicking. 6 month old, pale dog, litter brother to 1. Almost mirror image of sister and possessed the same attributes. Nice on outline when standing steady, but let down by being very unsettled. Lost out on movement and steadiness.

Special Yearling 1. 1. Cartlich’s Rosadora Lamlash Dream. 20 month old pale bitch. Balanced and symmetrical outline. Good head, well balanced on a good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and well boned straight front legs. Good top-line and good depth of rib. Short coupled. Good angulation in rear quarter and good bend of stifle. Very unsettled on the move, but moved true in front and rear. Handling let her down.

Post Graduate 2. 1.Staniland’s Terra Fiora Vianti Delimar (Imp). Pale, two and a half year old bitch in full coat. Symmetrical and balanced outline. Nice feminine head, balanced and set on good length of neck. Good angulation front and rear. Good depth of rib and short coupled and level top-line. Good second thighs and well bent stifles. Nice cat-like feet. Unsettled on move but moved with some drive, true and straight.2. Foreman’s Wynrita Hot To Trot To Ambersun. Two and a half year old mid gold bitch. Not quite balanced, a little short in leg. Never stopped wagging tail. Nice feminine, well chiselled, head set on good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and good straight foreleg. Good top-line and depth of rib. Good hindquarter angulation and well bent stifles.

Limit 2. 1. Hush’s Benrowan Esprit. Liked this almost 3 year old mid-gold bitch as she entered the ring and was not disappointed. Symmetrical, balanced and a level mover. Lovely balanced feminine head set on a good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and close fitting elbows. Good level top-line with good depth through heart and short coupled. Good rear quarters with well bent stifle. Good cat-like feet. Moved well with power and drive. RBOB. 2. Staniland’s Johannson Saint Beatrich. 5 year old, mid gold bitch. Symmetrical on outline. Open 2. 1.Foreman’s Camestone Field Day At Ambersun. Three and a half year old mid gold dog. Balanced and symmetrical on outline. Good balanced, well chiselled, male head set on a good length, clean  and muscular neck. Very good front and rear angulation and well boned. Balanced and short coupled in body with a good depth of rib. Good second thighs and well bent stifles. Lovely cat-like feet. Tail carried level with back. Slightly unsettled on move, but made up for it in challenge. Moved with drive, straight and true. BOB.  2. Staniland’s Johannson Saint Beatrich

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers

Puppy 3, 1abs. 1. Warren’s Fieldranger’s Kubla Khan. A striking 9 month old dog. Has all the characteristics I would expect in the breed. Bright, attentive and tail never stopped wagging. Good head, clean cut, broad and slightly rounded. Good medium length of well muscled neck. Well laid back shoulders. Deep chested with good spring of rib. Well muscled hindquarters and well bent stifles. Moved with power and parallel movement front and rear. Well deserved BP & BOB. 2.Sewell’s Clegane Inferno To Breakerswell. This 6 month old dog was rather overawed with its surroundings. Has the makings of a good example of the breed. Good angulation front and rear. Correct head. Good depth of chest and top-line. Tail constantly wagging. Good bend of stifle. Moved with drive although rather erratic. Coat certainly needs some attention.

Junior 2, 1abs 1. Warren’s Fieldranger’s Kubla Khan.

Post Graduate 2, 1abs 1. Sharpe’s Tivalake Crystal Ball At Rosettia JW RL2 AW(B). This compact 2 year old bitch is a nice example of the breed, but a little short in the leg for my liking. Good feminine head set on medium length of neck. Good angulation front and rear  with good bend of stifle. Good depth of rib and top-line. Moved with drive and strength. Very attentive to handler.  Close thing for top honours. RBOB.
