Isle of Ely Canine Society – Premier Open Show

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge these four breeds. I had a lovely entry and thank all the exhibitors for allowing me to go over their dogs.  It was my first time judging Great Danes and Newfoundland’s, I hope it didn’t show too much and in general exhibitors were happy with my placings. I have to say that I thought the Great Dane puppy was an absolute delight and was so pleased to see her go Puppy Working Group 1. 

Great Danes 

Puppy (1,0) 

1 Page and Concannon – Komtessa Liris V Rosherta at Novavida (Imp Ned) – What a well-balanced young lady she is, 7 months old and glided around the ring. I thought she moved even better in the Group. Mantle Bitch with lots of growing still to do (obviously), very feminine head with correct eye & ear shape. Length of leg and body proportions coming together nicely and with good front and rear angulation, deep chest, good muscle but not overdone. BP PWG1 

Junior (2,0) 

1 Page and Concannon - Dainoak Destined to Dream at Novadia – 14-month-old large blue bitch but still appearing feminine. Nice head with correct proportions and eye shape, ears triangular and set high. Angulation front and rear correct, good body proportions. Moved nicely. BOB 

2 Page and Concannon – Glamour Girl V Rosherta at Novavida (imp Ned). Mantle 17 months old bitch, very close decision although I preferred the head of 1 who also had very slight better front assembly.  

Post Grad (5,2) 

1 Kelleway – Dornoir Luciana – 2 ½ year old Blue bitch. Good proportions overall. Correct angulation, well-muscled. Nice head but would prefer a darker eye.  

2 Page and Concannon – Glamour Girl V Rosherta at Novavida (imp Ned) 

3 Kelleway - Taysca Vive Est Belle. 

Open (7,2) 

1 Kelleway – Damarkann Marquisite 3 ½ year old striking B/W Dog. Well built with adequate muscle. Good drive around the ring. Body proportions good. Lovely masculine head with good eye and correct ear shape and carriage. RBOB 

2 Griffin & Grierson – Griffindane Athos. Fawn 3yr old dog. Pleasing head with correct proportions and nice eye and ear shape and carriage.  Well built with nice deep chest good front but not quite as balanced with the rear. 

3 Mackenzie – Carsan Vincent 

Newfoundland 

Puppy (1,0) 

1 Nash – Mississippi-Missouri Hamer Time – Sweet young boy coming up to 9 months, still very immature but at the end of the day he is still a puppy. Eyes small & dark, ears of correct proportion and carried well, muzzle short & square. Lots of growing to do but bodying up well. Topline not quite level but should improve. His movement sold it to me. He was relatively light on his feet and had good drive and reach. BP 

Open (2,0) 

1 Hosie, Larkharbour Hitchin a Ride to Shadowrise IR Jun Ch. – 2yr old large boy, moved with drive and looked like he was enjoying his day. Very pleasing masculine head with correct eye shape. Ears small and carried correctly. Strong neck, nice deep chest, Level topline. Good well balance angulation front and rear. Overall just a really nice example earning his BOB. 

2. Mercer – IR CH King of Helluland Keep Distance at Larkharbour. 3 ½ year old Bitch who pushed 1 all the way, just preferred movement of 1. Nice head, correct angulation, topline level and maintained on the move. Lovely coat in good condition. RBOB 

Rottweiler 

Puppy (1,0) 

1 Wheaton – Ausries the Real Thing for Acinonyx. – 10 month old Dog. Sweet puppy coming along nicely. Head proportions good, nice dark almond eyes. Ears set high. Good mouth with Scissor bite. Strong neck, broad chest. Rear movement something to keep an eye on. Moved quite wide initially BP 

Post Grad (2,1) 

1 Wilkinson – Megalmar The Mockingjay  - 21month old bitch. Nice feminine girl who moved well around the ring. Good body proportions, angulation ok. Well-muscled RBOB 

Open (2,1) 

1 Sobkowiak – Dahlroo First Impression 3ys old Bitch, very nice girl who drove with power around the ring. Nice head with correct eye size and shape, ears placed well and medium sized. Neck arched and strong, deep chest, maybe like a little more length of leg. Good muscle overall. Well balanced. BOB 

Siberian Husky 

Puppy (3,0) 

1 Toomer – Aloustairs Big Surprise with Shaali. 11 month old B/W Bitch. I do like this puppy, out of coat and going through the gangly stage but there is enough there to see that she is going to do well. Very feminine foxy head with correct almond eye, ears carried well and not too large, especially at this age, very cheeky expression. Angulation is ok if slightly straight in front. Pasterns good. Topline is straight and maintained on the move. Can’t wait to see her grow. BP 

2 Cunningham – Icebex Egyptian Zipper. 9 month old bitch, another nice puppy that is out of coat and going through the gangly stage so difficult to assess the overall proportions. Good head with correct eye shape. Ears carried well, again appeared to be slightly straight in the front. Moved nicely round the ring, plenty of drive. 

3 Freeman & Welch – Aloustairs Blazing Hot. 

Junior (4,0) 

1 Toomer – Aloustairs Big Surprise with Shaali 

2 Hughes – Dream Come True Wilcza for Siberiadrift – nearly 18-month-old bitch. Lovely head with good eye shape, ear carriage and size giving that cheeky sibe expression. Front and rear angulation good, level topline, correct pasterns. Good tail carriage. Very moderate all over.  Overall there is not much wrong with this girl and on another day she could easily have been place higher.  

3 Spruce – Mysticwolf Diesel’s Dream 

Post Grad (3,0) 

1 Brown - Polarcreek Taiya JW. 2yr old grey bitch. I have been watching this lady since she was a puppy and finally got my hands on her and she did not disappoint. Her movement around the ring was graceful whilst showing drive and good reach and handled to her best advantage. Nice foxy head, neck arched and of medium length. Front and rear angles correct and leg length in proportion. Deep chest & well sprung ribs. Good muscle. BOB 

2 Hughes – Dream Come True Wilcza for Siberiadrift 

3 Spruce – Mysticwolf Diesel’s Dream 

Open (4,0) 

1 Deshka’s Cassiar Dyr for Polarcreek. 3yr old grey bitch. Another one to make decisions difficult. Typical foxy expression the result of correct eye shape and set along with correct ear size, shape and placement. Angulation correct although pasterns a little to straight. Moved well around the ring. RBOB 

2 Cunningham – Icebex Show Me the Money – 5yr old grey boy. Strong masculine head if slightly broad, correct eye shape and placement. Ears size and carriage correct. Good length of leg & body proportions although would prefer more angle in the front which would give a little more reach on the move, saying that he had plenty of drive in the rear. 

3 Freeman & Welch – Dark Wolf at Aloustair Anana Amarok.
