Coventry Ladies Kennel Association, Open Dog Show, Wednesday, 1st January 2020,

Thank you to Coventry Ladies Kennel Association for inviting me to judge today an excellently run show, I had a very enjoyable time judging some very nice exhibits, so a big thank you to the exhibitors and your dogs not forgetting my steward who was exemplary today keeping the ring running smoothly.

1 P Hartfield Moshanta May Contain Nuts JW Black and White dog with classic collie markings of 9 months of age. He has a nice developing skull which housed a lovely dark eye, showing good alertness, very responsive to handler. Well laid shoulder, good length of rib, which is well sprung, he has a well-muscled rear which allowed good drive, moving with balance and was awarded Best Puppy and Res Bob.

1 Shahmatova Dr Nashdom Strawberry Fields 7 month bitch, stood alone but I was not disappointed with this girl, good overall shape and not over exaggerated, moved out well with a nice gait, holding a good top-line.

1 Shahmatova Dr Nashdom Putting on the Style jw This class was filled with quality. My winner was a 2 year old dog with good black and white markings, mature coat, well presented, good outline with level top line, and nice broad skull with a well-proportioned muzzle. Dark eye, good ear set, good length of neck, leading to a well laid shoulder correctly angulated both front and rear. Good length of rib to loin ratio, nicely muscled hind quarters with well let down hocks, moved with drive and reach covering the ground with ease. This dog was definitely putting on the style today. I was very pleased to award him Bob & Pastoral Group 1. He later went on to be awarded Res Best in Show. Congratulations

Correct rib to loin ratio, ribs well sprung, good muscle on hind quarters, allowing good balance on the move. A well-deserved Best Puppy

 13 month bitch another very feminine girl with good length to height ratio, showing alertness and attention to handler, stood with level top line and covered with a wonderful dense coat and classic blue merle markings, good strong underjaw, correct scissor bite, muzzle of good length, ears set well onto mature flat skull, good lay of shoulder, depth of chest. Ribs of good length and well muscled hindquarters allowing her to move easy and freely I was very pleased to award this young lady Bob and Pastoral Group 4

Good head eye and ear set, strong neck good lay of shoulder, well sprung rib, straight back, excellently angulated allowing well balanced gait, mature fitting coat , this boy was pushed all the way by 2, but managed to pull out the stops I was pleased to award him BOB and later Pastoral Group 2

1 Mrs C Wilson Zentrum’s Yanka at Clynalwin Jw ShCM German Shepherd 7 year bitch who is a superb specimen well balanced with nice black and gold markings, good head, dark eye, well set ears, strong neck, good back well muscled rear, moved in total harmony with handler, this lady was my Res BOB from her breed so I was pleased to award her best Pastoral Veteran and later gave her the Best Pastoral Res BOB Award

1 Shahmatova Dr Nashdom Putting on the Style JW Border Collie, this dog was superb all day and did everything the handler asked of him, he didn’t let anyone down later by being awarded Res Best in Show. Thank you to Best in Show judge Martin Sanders for thinking so highly of this wonderful boy. 

2 Mr AJ & Mrs Forman Suzdans Frozen in Blue ShCm German Shepherd of good powerful movement dog and handler working in harmony well done

3 Mrs S J Walker Tooralie’s Ocho Rios Shetland Sheepdog 20 month sable boy showing all the signs of maturing nicely and is of good stature holding a wonderful outline, good head with lovely ear set, excellently presented and handled, moved with good extension and a nice gait.

4 Mrs J Margetts Lynmead Lemonade for Collingvale Rough Collie bitch worked and moved so well, was all in unison with handler, at 13months I think she will have a good future.

1 Mrs P W Hall Bargemon St Emilion Briard showing her socks off in this well fought challenge keeping poise and elegance thorough out. Holding good top line both standing and on the move this young lady was handled very sympathetically to bring out the best in her. Good luck for the future

2 N & A Allen Prince Snow Allmark du Bois Des Ternes (imp France) This White Swiss Shepherd was the first time for me to judge in competition and I was not disappointed in this boy carrying a nice proportioned head linking to a moderately long well arched neck, good lay of shoulder and depth of chest, correct rib to loin proportions, well angulated and muscled in rear allowing good drive, held level firm top line throughout I thought he moved better and more settled covering the ground with ease in this challenge than in the group challenge. Another one to watch for the future.

3 Mr G Atkins & Mrs C Charles Snikkles Swashbuckler Bearded Collie 10 month slate dog well-proportioned head with good bite and strong underjaw, dark eye toning well with coat, moderate length of neck, well laid shoulder, good length of back holding level throughout, moved with good extension and covering the ground with ease, stood with nice outline, enhanced by a well-groomed coarse coat, well done

4 Miss C L Beresford Hamadryas Isolde for Karmavonbez German Shepherd bitch was my final decision today another with good all round qualities and producing the effortless movement to obtain this award.
