Ashton In Makerfield Canine Society

Thank you to John Purnell, Angie Biggs, their officeholders and committee for inviting me to judge the Terrier Group at your show. Thanks to my stewards, Paula and Colin, plus the exhibitors for entering their dogs.

BORDER TERRIERS

PUPPY (3) All very nice puppies. 1. Taylor’s Nottorg Name of the Game. Smaller, but bitch puppy compared with the other two dog puppies. Caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring, having a super outline. Nice, well- proportioned head, with short, strong muzzle and good stop. Enough bone for a bitch puppy and spannable. Good pelt and coat. Moved very well when settled. BEST PUPPY. 2. Keeffe’s Keebank Just in Time. Pleasing head with dark eye. Good reach of neck and well-placed shoulders. A nice type, well- muscled and moved OK. Good thick double coat of nice quality and texture. Correct pelt. 3. Metcalfe’s Nottorg True and Trusty for Chevinor.

JUNIOR (3) 1. Fleming’s Brankell Countdown to Flegato. Super bitch with lovely balance and outline. Excellent head with good expressive eyes and ears. Narrow front and body, good topline, racy hindquarters and easily spannable. Well- muscled. Lovely otter tail well set. Nice double coat. Moved very well. BEST OF BREED. 2. Bassett’s Bevmar Bartholomew. Quite a different type. Still a puppy. Nicely balanced with correct head. Good pelt and coat for a puppy. Moved OK.

LIMIT (7) 1. Fleming’s Brankell Countdown to Flegato. As above. 2. Metcalfe’s Billyboy Blue at Chevinor. A good type and nice to go over. Everything flowed through the body, with neck flowing into shoulders. Correct head and straight front. Well- muscled and correct otter tail. Good feet and moved well. 3. Tabern’s Hawkgreen Artful Dodger. 4. Russell’s Keebank Jack Frost. 5. Hardman’s Bonosue Sweet Caroline.

OPEN (4) A difficult decision. 1. Metcalfe’s Dandyhow Friendly Fire at Chevinor ShCM. Good head and pigmentation. Lovely straight front. Very muscular and strong. Taller on leg, but good all round. Nice otter tail. Moved OK. 2. Tabern’s Hawkgreen Artful Dodger. Correct head. Good front and tight feet. Nice harsh coat and pelt. Moved OK. 3. Bassett’s Lockhaugh Twix at Bevmar. MANCHESTER TERRIERS

PUPPY (2) 1. Gray & Travis’ Clanmarshal Edwardian Echo. Correct markings, although the tan could be darker. Very nice scissor bite. Head OK. Nice body outline and good feet. Movement let him down, he would not work with his handler and insisted on walking one sided. A great shame. BEST PUPPY.

JUNIOR (1) 1. Gray’s & Travis’ Clanmarshal Edwardian Echo. As above.

LIMIT (1) 1. Gray & Travis’ Ruffagga Ghealaich Bhaigh Von Clanmarshal. Mother of the above. Nicely proportioned head. Rounder eye. Quite a nice overall type and in good condition. Correct markings, but not very distinct. Nice topline and shape. Well- muscled hindquarters. Moved OK.

OPEN (1) 1. Gray & Travis’ Brockenella Hector Von Clanmarshal ShCM. Father of the puppy. Correct long head with flat skull. Beautiful ears. I would prefer more defined markings, but they were all present and correct. Quite nice profile. Wonderful muscles. Nice topline. Moved OK. BEST OF BREED.

NORFOLK TERRIERS

PUPPY (2) 1. Gee’s Watercroft Brown Owl. Feminine puppy bitch. Very nice attractive balanced head with good stop, lovely eyes and expression, well placed ears on correct rounded skull. Nice overall, straight front with well laid shoulders and a very short back. Lovely turn of stifle and moved extremely well. 2. Walshe’s Beritas Part Time Lover. A lovely dog puppy. Appeared to have a long body. Well-muscled and good tail set. Good turn of stifle. Lovely coat. Moved very well.

JUNIOR (2) 1. Gee’s Watercroft Stolen Moment. What a star! Nearly 10 months old and showed like a pro. Excellent in every way and loves showing herself off. Lovely profile. Super head, with correct domed skull, keen expression and good ear placement. Lovely mouth. Body line flowed so well, through neck to shoulders along short back to tail. Nice turn of stifle, giving wonderful movement. Good tail set and nice feet. Super coat for her age. BEST PUPPY, BEST OF BREED, BEST TERRIER PUPPY, BEST TERRIER AND BEST PUPPY IN SHOW. 2. Green’s Wharfvalley Diamond Dust. Completely different. Not so outgoing. Nice feet, good turn of stifle and moved OK. Coat tighter and not so long, but correct thickness and texture.

LIMIT (3) 1. Gee’s Watercroft Top Totty. Nice head, good mouth, correct shaped dark eye, very good ear placement. Wedge shaped muzzle and broad, slightly rounded skull. Very compact body and short backed. Nice feet, good hindquarters and moved well. In good coat. 2. Green’s Wharfvalley Double Diamond. Brother to Diamond Dust. A shame he does not show himself off and use his ears. Nice type. Lovely small round feet and close coat. 3. Macdonald’s Love from Benji of Mossgiel.

OPEN (3) A very hard decision between 1st and 2nd. 1. Walshe’s Beritas the Name’s Bond. This dog was on top form. Excellent head, expressive eyes and super ear set. Nice neck and quarters fore and aft. A shade longer cast, but very well- made body. Nice turn of stifle, Good tail set and super round feet. In good coat. Moved very well. 2. Gee’s Ch Watercroft Gold Dust. Beautiful bitch, distinctly feminine without weakness. Very much a worthy champion, with lots of CCs to her name. Super showman, like most from this kennel. Excellent in every way. Strong in neck and well laid shoulders. Compact body and short back. Nice turn of stifle, super coat and nice feet. Moved extremely well. Just felt the dog had the edge over the bitch today. But both excellent examples of the breed. 3. MacDonald’s SA Ch Macsnest Royal James of Mossgiel. I was pleased to see he did well in the A.V Veteran Stakes class, as he was very good for over 12 years old.

ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED TERRIER

PUPPY (3) Three very nice puppies. 1. Brookes & Saunders’ Smooth Fox Terrier, Zetamaz Dream Warrior. Lovely example of his breed. Very striking beautifully balanced dog. Moderately narrow head with flat skull, small dark eyes, with well-set ears. Super muscle tone and fitness. Nice length of neck flowing into long, well laid- back shoulders. Good body with short back. Moved very well. BEST A.V.N.S.C. PUPPY. 2. Rimmer’s Parson Russell Terrier, Lenacourt Boogie Nights at Kylini. Unfortunately, he did not make the most of himself against strong competition. Correct wedge- shaped head, with good stop and ear set. Nice reach of neck and tail set. Only 8 months old and needs to mature. Correct feet and pelt. 3. Birch’s Wire Fox Terrier, Kenynten Dapper Damson.

JUNIOR (4) 1. Hardman’s Irish Terrier, Bonosue If’s an Illusion. A really super Irish terrier in profile, just a year old. Well- proportioned head with nice ear carriage. Only just out of puppy and needs to mature a bit more. Excellent reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Frill around the neck coming. Strong level topline with adequate stifles. Correct crisp coat.
