Three Ridings Labrador Club

Three Ridings Labrador Club

26th January 2020

An honour and a pleasure, as a non-specialist to be invited to judge this lovely show. The committee worked hard to make everyone welcome. Winners were greeted with warm applause. It was so encouraging to see such a good turn out for the Junior Handling classes and to see how they were being helped and supported.

I was very pleased with the overall quality of the dogs on show. It will be interesting to see how so many of these promising youngsters turn out.

Dogs

Veteran (1)

1 Young’s Suttonpark Brogue

Well made 7-year-old Chocolate boy of good size. Well-shaped head with plenty of width. Well boned through with straight front, elbows nicely tucked in. Firm level topline. Good width to his quarters. Hocks are well let down. He moved well particularly from behind.

Minor Puppy (3,1abs)

Both six months here and showing plenty of promise.

1 Digweed and Metcalfe’s Baileykin Smartie Pants for Baileydale

Looking right for his age. Good width to his skull, stop needs to develop as you would expect. Strong neck leads to well placed shoulders. Shows good width and depth to his chest giving plenty of heart room. Balanced through with short firm loins and good width to his quarters. Will be interested to watch his career.

2 Lesley’s Steeleigh Love Machine

Close up and plenty to like here. Balanced head with good length of jaws. Well made through. Straight, well boned front. Well made quarters with good stifles and hocks nicely let down. Not quite the width through of the winner here but at only six months, this is a matter of time.

Puppy (1)

1 Turpin Bailey and Detwiler Brunold’s Miras Here Comes the Sun of Blossomcroft

At 11 months, this boy was making his show debut. He shows plenty of promise. Good head with intelligent expression and kind eyes. He has well laid shoulders and is straight and well boned in front. Good width and depth to his ribs. He moved well and was in good coat. I would prefer tighter feet. Should go on to do well enough once his enthusiastic handler gets a bit more experience.

Junior (6, 2)

1 Lesley’s Sleddarwood Sako Flyer over Steeleigh

At 15 months, this yellow lad is well grown but is balanced through. Good head with strong skull and defined stop. Ears well back giving the correct expression. Good length of foreface and depth of muzzle. Strong clean neck leads to well laid shoulders. Body is nicely ribbed, and couplings are strong giving a correct topline. He is well developed behind with correct set of tail. He moved well showing power and drive.

2 Dawson’s Beskerby Pageant

Just 12 months is not as forward as the winner but still plenty to like here. Balanced head with width but not overdone. Strong clean neck leads to good front assembly with straight legs and well laid shoulders. In good muscular order with firm level topline and good width to his thighs.

3 Young’s Potterspiney Silas

Minor Puppy (12, 2)

What a lovely class of promising babies. It will be very interesting to see how they develop, and no doubt several will go on to be very successful.

1 Young’s Potterspiney Tickety Boo

My choice today in this tricky class. Once I got my hands on this chocolate, I knew she would be hard to beat today. Not flashy and had to be gone over to be fully appreciated. Good head, feminine but with plenty of width and defined stop. Ears well back and kind in the eye. Strong in neck which leads to good shoulder angulation, elbows neatly tucked in. Super ribs for her age with plenty of width and good depth. Compact short body with firm couplings.  Well angulated quarters. Good width of second thigh. 2 Brambles’ Shaymiloney Stormin Nelli

Thought this 14 month old looked super standing but just didn’t have the extension on the move in this ring today. Balanced in head with strong jaw and width behind the eyes. Well boned straight front legs lead to nicely sloping shoulders. Well off for body and ribs. Firm over the loins and strong over her quarters. A difficult decision.

Straight font with shoulders sloping back nicely and elbows neatly tucked in.  Well developed chest showing the desired width and depth.
