Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Association

Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Association, Sunday 9th February 2020
Thank you for the invitation to judge at this incredibly professionally run event. The show took place during the weekend of Storm Ciara and despite the adverse weather conditions, it was evident that the committee was determined to pull together and put on a great show! Really heartening to see.

SPANIEL [CLUMBER]
Post Graduate [3]: 1 BOB, Crofts‘ Micklemess Just Looking, quality bitch with a lovely balanced outline - made her presence felt as soon as she came into the ring. Lovely head in profile, good forechest, correct length of body, excellent spring of rib extending well back, good bone & substance, silky texture to coat, moved well; 2 Wareham & Dustan’s Buckfarm In The Buff, different in style to 1, correct body proportions, good spring of rib, well angulated quarters, exuberant character - once settled showed well; 3 BP, Wareham & Dustan’s Buckfarm Chubbawubba, sister to 2 from a repeat breeding - similar comments apply, just in baby form at a tender 6 months. Congratulations on your PG3.
Open [1]: 1 Wareham & Dustan’s Lornajoe General Gilbert, eye-catching, sound & balanced male, rather full of himself which was lovely to see. Sire of the two bitches in Post Graduate. Well off for bone, nice body proportions, good depth of forechest, good spring of rib, well muscled, moved well. Preferred the presentation of the BOB winner.

RETRIEVER [FLAT COATED]
Junior [4, 3a]: 1 BP, Bowen’s Candiliz Funky Monkey at Clandrift, 10 months, presents a pleasing picture in outline once settled, quality to touch, deep chest, short loin. Just needs to strengthen all through and this will come in time.
Post Graduate [5, 3]:
1 Oxford’s Matlaras Spirit Of Dunkirk for Taranbeck, on first impressions could be overlooked compared to her well turned out competitor, however, on closer assessment, scores on soundness throughout. Good bone, clean neck into shoulders, excellent ribbing & short loin, correct turn of stifle, moved well; 2 Bellamy’s  Moontorn Goddess Of Love, eye-catching & well presented with good body ratios & angulation. Slightly narrow in front which reflected in front movement. Well handled.
Open [3, 1]:
1 BOB, Bellamy’s Bochilbarley Blue Moon AI, streamlined in outline with clean neck into shoulders, correct angles fore & aft, very firm to go over with well developed muscles - taut, free mover in side profile, very well presented; 2 Bowen’s Clandrift Midnight Galaxy, lovely head & eye, nice forechest, correct angles fore & aft. Not giving her all on the move - Sunday mornings are for lie ins!
