Cocker Spaniel Club Of Lancashire

Many thanks to this friendly committee for the invitation to judge and for their exceptional hospitality on the day. Special thanks to Jennie & Eileen, my stewards, who did an excellent job of keeping things running smoothly. Final thanks to the exhibitors for the entries, the excellent sportmanship and for the super condition that every single dog was presented in. Storm Dennis meant we had absenteeism in higher numbers than you’d see usually so I really do appreciate those who did make the trek on a windy, wet sunday. In all honesty, I didn’t have a clue who most of the dogs were and it’s been interesting to see the catalogue afterwards and see the familial link between my winners. I clearly like a type!

Minor Puppy Dog (2 entries) 1st Edward’s Manlison Bluebell A decent headed boy in lovely condition. Longer cast than 2 but this was far better in front with decent width across his chest and good return of upperarm and thus moved better. Good topline, well boned and lovely feet. 2nd. Ackroyd’s Clydesian Elderado More compact than my winner and has a lovely head. Would prefer more lay back of shoulder and needs width all through. In lovely condition.

Minor Puppy Bitch (5 entries, 2 absent) 1st & BMPIS Scott’s Cassom Betty Rizzo This girl headed a lovely class where there was much to like about all three. Lovely head with square muzzle. She is compact, well constructed and moved well. Presented in tip top condition. 2nd. Morris’ Riondel Caribbean Mystery Another very nice puppy who has nice angles fore and aft. Level topline and good bone and feet. Just not as tidy in front on the move as my winner so had to stand second today. 3rd. Morris’ Riondel May you Dance

Puppy Dog (3 entries, 2 absent) 1st. Linton’s Lujesa Starry Knight over Ludzska Wouldn’t want him any bigger but this is a handsome boy with an appealing expression. Good lay back of shoulders but short in upperarm. Ribs well back and a short loin. Handler tends to over stretch him which makes his topline slope but his topline is fine when he’s moving. Well angulated rear. I was impressed with his muscle tone. Moved well.

Puppy bitch (5 entries, 2 absent) 1st & BPIS Anslow’s Shansart Giselle Won this class as I preferred her body and substance. Being a bit naughty and thus was moving erratically but she is nicely made with big ribs, short loin and decent angulation front and back. Moved far better later to take Best Puppy in Show. A quality girl. 2nd. Tavernor’s Annaside Moonshine at Regaltav Pretty head with well set ears of good length. Super front with shoulders well back and good length of upperarm. Just a bit narrow all through at the moment. Moved erratically but was clearly enjoying her day out which was nice to see. J

unior Dog/Bitch (2 entries) 1st & Res Best Opposite Sex in Show Steele’s Ziennes Sweet Cheeks Really pretty head/expression. Moderate length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good topline. Big ribs and a short loin, well angulated rear. Compact. Presented in lovely condition. Moved really well covering the ground accurately. 2nd. Burns’ Villaspaniol Wild Tiger Handler/breeder paid the price here for tempting fate with the word “wild” in the dog’s name! The movement was “interesting” but she was clearly enjoying herself. Another with a lovely head, square muzzle and really pretty expression. In excellent condition and decent angulation. I preferred the leg length of my winner,

Special Yearling Dog/Bitch (2 entries, 1 absent) 1st. Yilmaz’ Kyna Toyah Battersby Pretty girl with head of good proportions and ears set on low. Shoulders well laid back and excellent depth and width of chest. Firm topline, well angulated rear and she moved beautifully.

Maiden Dog/Bitch (3 entries) 1st. Steele’s Ziennes Cinnabonbon Nicely constructed girl with a lovely head. A little too ebullient on the move but I saw enough to see some really accurate footwork. Won this class as I preferred her size and topline. 2nd. Linton’s Lujesa Starry Knight over Ludzska 3rd. Mitchell’s Glowhill Snowball

Special Graduate Dog/Bitch Black, Black/Tan or Golden (4 entries, 1 absent) 1st. Robertson’s Kastrian Illumination Quality girl with a lovely head, good neck and shoulders, in fact the best in this class for front angulation. She has width, depth, firm level topline and a strong, well angulated rear with short hocks. Moved soundly. 2nd. Ackroyd’s Clydesian Ruby Tuesday Not the front of my winner and could do with more width all through but she has a lovely head, a good topline with ribs well back and a muscular, well angled rear. Moved nicely. 3rd. Mason’s Sandlauga Soul Man

Special Graduate Dog/Bitch Any other colour (4 entries, 2 absent) 1st & BIS Burley’s Cassom Canaletto at Barnsbur Really liked this boy. He has the most beautiful head with dark eyes and low set ears of good length. He has a good front with shoulders well back and a good return of upperarm. Chest sufficiently deep and of good width. Big ribs well back and a short, strong loin. Level topline with good tailset and well bent stifles and short hocks. Good bone and feet. Presented immaculately and his movement was foot perfect. Delighted to award him Best in Show in good company. It was thoroughly deserved. 2nd. Marden’s Chativore Winter Solstice Not the compactness of my winner and with shorter ribs. Lovely head with good ears. Good topline. Well angulated rear and moved well.

Post Graduate Dog/Bitch (7 entries, 3 absent) 1st. Mason’s Sandlauga Infernal Won this class as she had the best front construction in it. That excellent lay of shoulder and length of upperarm makes so much difference on the move. She is compact with a good topline and a decent rear. Moved beautifully. 2nd. Mitchell’s Glowhill Eastern Promise On the initial stack, I thought this girl was going to be my winner. She is beautiful in profile and presented in lovely condition. Her shoulders are laid back enough but she didn’t have the return of upperarm of my winner so not the easy reach in front. 3rd. Nutter’s Annaside’s New Moon

Bred by Exhibitor Dog/Bitch (6 entries, 5 absent) 1st. Young’s Canyonn Could it be Magic Nice headed girl with dark eye and sufficient depth of muzzle. Well laid shoulders, good length of upperarm. Good depth and width of chest. Ribs well back, short loin. Well angulated rear. Moved nicely.

Not Bred by Exhibitor Dog/Bitch (5 entries) 1st & RBIS Burns’ Kyna Smooth Criminal with Villaspaniol Quality boy who is beautifully constructed. He is compact, balanced and presented in superb condition. Moved really well, covering the ground easily and accurately. 2nd. Tracz’ Kyna Holding Hands with Acregate This boy was making his handler work hard!! Lots to like about him (including the naughtiness) he is pleasing in profile and when he got his act together, moved really well. I was splitting hairs between 1 and 2 but just preferred the lay back of shoulders on my winner. 3rd. Linton’s Jalankiu Flirtation with Ludzska

Special Beginners Dog/Bitch (1 entry) 1st. Tavernor’s Annaside Moonshine at Regaltav As previous.

Special Open Dog/Bitch Black, Black/Tan or Golden (4 entries, 1 absent) 1st. Shinkfield & Lester’s Quettadene Touch the Stars JW Really smart girl with a lovely head. A little upright in shoulder. She has plenty of width and depth to her and has good bone and feet. Her ribs are well back and she has a short loin. Good topline & tailset. Well angulated rear and moved soundly. Presented in excellent condition. 2nd. Ackroyd’s Clydesian Belladonna Another nice bitch, I just preferred the head of my winner as this girl has a bit too much depth to her muzzle. Correct topline. Moved well. 3rd. Ackroyd’s Clydesian Desperado

Special Open Dog/Bitch Any other Colour (4 entries, 2 absent) 1st. Morris’ Riondel Caribbean Blu A happy girl on the move which made it a bit difficult to assess movement properly but I saw enough to see that she’s sound. She has a nice head, she is well constructed all through with good width and depth to her. In lovely condition. 2nd. Marsden’s Chativore Winter Solstice

Veteran Dog/Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent) 1st & BVIS Burley’s Suedons Pippin for Barnsbur Won this class as he moved the best in it, covering the ground superbly with reach and drive and his tail didn’t stop wagging! Just over 10 years old, this boy is in super condition. You can see the grey hairs but his super conformation and movement belie his years. 2nd. Scott’s Kalispell Beaspoke JW Lovely head & expression. Preferred the cleanness of neck and return of upperarm of my winner. Presented immaculately. Good bone and feet. Moved soundly.
