Lichfield Canine Society Premier Open Show 25.01.2020

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely show, and also a huge thanks to my stewards who were very helpful did an excellent job of keeping my ring running smoothly.

Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling)

Puppy (4,0)

1. WARREN’s FIELDRANGER’S KUBLA KHAN

10mo dog. Chiselled wedge-shaped head framed by good sized ears. Would prefer a slightly darker eye, but hopefully this will darken as he matures. Fabulous expression and playful temperament. Good forechest and well sprung ribs. Balanced angulation and well off for bone. Feet could be tighter. Held his topline well on the move but could be a little wide in front at times. Shown in excellent coat. BPIB

2. ELKIN’s TOLLELKIN CAIFE AMERICANO

8mo dog. Excellent head and good length of neck. Good earset and eyes blend nicely with coat colour. Up to size and would not like him to grow on any more. Excellent bone and good depth to his chest. Effortless jaunty mover. Shown in good coat and overall condition. Slightly unbalanced angulation at this age, but has excellent breed type and I look forward to seeing how he matures.

3. STREVEN’s TOLLELKIN CAIFE GAELACH AT TOLLISTY

Junior (7,0)

1. WARREN’s FIELDRANGER’S KUBLA KHAN

1st in Puppy

2. ELKIN’s TOLLELKIN CAIFE AMERICANO

2nd in Puppy

3. ROGER’s EUSANIT PEAKY BLINDER

Post Graduate (7,1)

1. ANSTEAD’s RIVERWATCHER KILA

20mo dog of excellent overall quality. Balanced angulation with good front construction and bend of stifle. Stood on strong pasterns and with hocks well let down. Excellent depth of chest. Short coupled and held his topline well on the move. Good muscle tone and could clearly do a day’s work. Unfortunately let down by his bite, but despite this he was still my clear class winner. My favourite mover of the day.

2. ROGER’s EUSANIT PEAKY BLINDER

3rd in Junior. 17mo dog. Liked his overall head shape very much, very typy with strong muzzle clearly capable of carrying game. Slightly shorter in neck than 1, and would like a little more front angulation. Well ribbed and short coupled. Good width across the loin. Moved and handled well today.

3. WESTWOOD’s EUSANIT HOT TOTTY

Open (5,0)

1. STREVEN’s SH CH ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY

5yo dog in peak physical condition. Good head shape with correct earset. Eyes nicely matching coat colour. Would prefer a fraction less stop as this can alter his expression at times. Good front angulation. Excellent spring of rib and good overall substance and bone. Short coupled with strong loin. Tight feet. Moved with drive, covering the ground well. Impressive rear muscle tone which secured his win for me today. BOB and pleased to see him take Group 3.

2. ANSTEAD’s SH CH/BEL/LUX/NL/INT SH CH RIVERWATCHER ATKA CW’16 BWNL’14’16 BWBE’15

7yo dog I have admired from the ringside before. Presents a powerful and compact overall appearance. Excellent head and earset. Strong neck and excellent front angulation. Well sprung ribs and short coupled. Good bone and stood straight with strong pasterns. Would like slightly more bend of stifle. Shown in full coat. Challenged his handler today, displaying the breed’s playful temperament. A lovely example of the breed who pushed hard for top spot. RBOB and pleased to see him take Veteran Group 3.

3. WESTWOOD’s EUSANIT PROPER JOB
