Report on Basset Fauve de Bretagne Judging

Many thanks to the committee for the opportunity of awarding CC’s for the first time in this happy breed. A good entry in both quantity & quality, thanks to the exhibitors for accepting my placings in such good spirits.

Puppy Dog (4, 0 abs)

1st. Stromberg & Turton’s – Prince De La Fontaine Du Baconnet. This 10 month old boy is rather special, he has a beautiful head & eye framed by lovely leathers, wide nostrils & good dentition. His strong neck leads into very good shoulders, straight well boned front & neat feet. He has a level topline, good depth of chest & is well ribbed back to strong loin. He has a good turn of stifle & is well muscled throughout. Coat & conditioning was first class & he moved soundly with a good reach of stride. I considered him for the RCC, but the extra maturity of the limit winner just tipped the scale today. BPD.

2nd. Wederell’s – Rangali Jedi Master He Is. Giving away a lot in age at just 6 months, this boy has a lovely head with dark expressive eye, good leathers & neck into correct shoulder. Not as positive in front as the winner, he has a pleasing topline & depth of chest, good body & hindquarters. Shown in great coat & condition, he moved out well.

3rd. McDonald-Ulliott’s – Hibeck Barnaby Rubble.

Junior Dog (2, 0 abs)

1st. Revens & Hyde’s – Blevwil World Class at Beabass. Pleasing head, eye & expression on this 15 month old boy. Good neck & shoulder, ok front & feet, excellent topline, tailset & hindquarters. He is well ribbed back & he has very good quarters with well-turned stifle. He moves freely in profile & powers from behind, just needs to tidy up a little in front action.

2nd. Rangali Jedi Master He Is.

Post Graduate Dog (1, 0 abs)

1st. Jones & Gregg’s – Wratthembray Mr Tod. Super head, eye & expression, excellent neck & shoulder into good front & neat feet. Good depth of chest & spring of rib, strong loin & level topline. His quarters are well made & well-muscled which allowed him to power round the ring with a good stride & he is sound out & back. A very nice lad.

Limit Dog (7, 4 abs)

1st. Ellrich & Ellrich’s – Malrich Gingerbread Man. A beautiful head with a kind eye & expression, good leathers & wide nostrils. He has super forehand construction, with good neck, lovely layback of shoulder, straight well boned front & neat feet. He has a level topline, is well bodied, has a good depth of chest & spring of rib & is well ribbed back to strong loin. He has very good quarters & tailset & his coat presentation was first class. Sound as a pound out & back with a good length of stride, he carried himself with purpose & presented a lovely picture both on the stack & the move. I fell for his charms & he couldn’t be denied the RCC, at just 18 months I’m sure the best is still to come.

2nd. Sercombe’s – Rangali Timon. Happy boy with a lovely head & expression. He has a good neck & shoulder, ok front, feet are good but he could do with a nail trim. Pleasing topline & good quarters, he moved out well all ways & was shown in lovely condition.

3rd. Lucas’ – Hibeck Teddy Bear at Kocalba.

Open Dog (8, 2 abs)

1st. Turton’s – Ch. Whistlewood’s Arran Pilot for Shiroblam. What a super boy this young man is, he has a lovely head with kind dark eye & expression. He has a super forehand, with good neck, correct shoulder & lovely front & feet. He has a level topline, good depth of chest & ribbing & is strong through the loin. Correct set on of stern & his quarters were well constructed with good muscle tone. His coat & conditioning was first class & he moved soundly out & back with a good footfall in profile. I just loved him & he could not be denied the CC & ultimately BOB.

2nd. Allenby’s – Rangali Tigger. A boy who I loved as a baby & I am glad to hear now wears his crown. He has a super head & expression with just that hint of naughtiness. Pleasing forehand with excellent bone & feet, he holds his topline well & has a good depth of chest & spring of rib. His excellent quarters allowed him to power round the ring with a free flowing stride, I just preferred the front action of my winner coming towards me.

3rd. Blevin & Bendle’s – IrCh. Blevwils Unbreakable.

Veteran Dog (2, 0 abs)

1st. Turton’s – Ch. Shiroblam Hot Toddy. Low set leathers & a lovely dark eye sets of this boys beautiful head. He has an excellent neck & shoulder, good front & feet, level topline, strong loin & good depth of chest. His quarters are well made & well-muscled & he was shown in super bloom. At 8½ years old he could really show the youngsters how to move – sound & true with drive.

2nd. Leech & Leech’s – Ch. Hibeck Scooby Doo with Soletrader. Lovely make & shape on this almost 9 year old boy. He has a super head & eye, excellent neck, shoulder, front & feet lovely through the topline, body & hindquarters. He moved out beautifully showing a clean pair of heels.

Puppy Bitch (2,0 abs)

1st. Allenby’s – Rangali Yum Yum. What an exquisite baby this 6½ month old girl is, her eyes will melt your heart. She has a beautiful head, lovely leathers, superb forehand with good neck, straight well boned front & good feet. Her topline is level & her body depth is good, with good ribbing & loin. Well set on stern, her quarters have good definition & her stifle are well bent. Sound & true with good drive, she has a super coat & a wonderful outlook on life. I seriously considered her for the CC, but today she had to be content with BPIB & the RBCC.

2nd. Russel’s - Shiroblam Serendipity. Pretty headed 11½ month old girl with kind dark eye. She has an excellent neck & shoulder, good front, super topline & quarters. She was shown in great condition & she moved out well in all directions.

Junior Bitch (2, 1 abs)

1st. Rangali Yum Yum.

Post Graduate Bitch - No entries

Limit Bitch (3, 1 abs, 1 W/D)

1st. Sercombe’s – Rangali Quirky Widget. Pretty headed lady with a dark expressive eye. Excellent neck & shoulder, pleasing front, lovely topline, good through the body & excellent tailset & quarters with good turn of stifle. Super jacket she moved well, but not with the positivity of the top winners.

Open Bitch (5, 0 abs)

1st. Blevin & Bendle’s – IrCh. Blevwil Malrich Ginger Nut. Beautiful headed girl who I see is the litter sister to my RDCC winner. She has a super forehand, with good neck, shoulders, front & feet. She is well bodied up, has a good keel, depth of chest, level topline & strong loin. She is sound as a pound & moves with purpose in profile, her conditioning was first class & she was well-handled to get the very best out of her. Winning a very well deserved CC.

2nd. Turton’s – Ch. Shiroblam Supa Coco. Pleasing head & eye on this young lady. She has an excellent neck, shoulder, topline & hindquarters. She has good depth & spring of rib & she was shown in fine fettle. She moved well in profile but was not quite so positive in front coming on as my winner.
