Crufts 2020 Lagotto Romagnolo

It was such an honour to judge this fantastic breed at the world’s biggest dog show Crufts. I have studied and admired the breed for many years and would like to thank the Crufts committee for allowing me this fantastic opportunity. I had a great day and would also like to thank everyone who entered from the bottom of my heart. There were lots of super dogs and some challenging decisions to make. It was a dream come true to see my Best Of Breed go Group 2 and elevate the awareness of your lovely breed across the world.

Veteran Dog.

1st GAESTEN JUST JAGO AT JOYDON (MR D H LIGHTFOOT) A very striking and typical 9 year old dog. Super head and pigmentation with correct bite, Strong neck and lovely forehand and rear assembly. Excellent proportions and angles. Not in the best of coat but this dog excelled and won the class with his effortless, powerful movement around the ring while holding his perfect top line. A joy to watch a veteran move so well. Best Veteran

2nd YDUNS BLUE'S KENZO (MS S J WESTMORELAND-CAUNTER) Another very nicely put together dog of good breed type. Lovely masculine head with lovely ear carriage and expression, good body proportions with good top line and excellent width of loin just did not have the power of movement of 1.

Puppy Dog

1st BRANSBUBBLE ST FRANCIS (MRS H L WARDLE-SPENCELEY) What a very striking and typical chap this 10-month-old baby was. I loved his type. Correct head proportions, good pigmentation, correct bite strong neck onto well placed shoulder and front assembly. Good top line with good width of loin with slightly sloping croup and correct tail set. Moved well when settled.

2nd DARIO DELLA CAVEJA (MRS L FERGUSON) this young man has a delightful head and lovely pigmentation, a square outline but needs to drop in chest , nice unexaggerated rear, and good set and length of tail that just reached his straight large hocks, moved very well holding his top line.

Post Graduate Dog.

1st KARBENI NUA NEMO (MISS J BULLEN) this slightly finer young man had again a lovely head and correct ear set, lovely pigment correct bite, good neck on to moderately well laid back shoulders, close fitting elbows and stood straight with good oval bone. Nice thick under coat with tight ringlets. Level top line onto a slightly sloping croup with tail reaching the hocks. Moved ok.

2nd GAESTEN TOP TINKER ( MR K J & MRS S C TOLLERFIELD) A very typical and correct head, strong neck and standing on a straight parallel front assembly. Lovely dense undercoat, straight top line, slight tuck up, moved out a little close and would prefer more length of tail.

3rd EUONIA BLUEBELL BOY CAMMINARE (MR S, MR J & MRS A WALKER) A 6 year old dog, nice head, good pigmentation, correct bite, correct slightly longer leg would prefer a more dense coat, tended to stand cow hocked. Would prefer more drive on the move.

Limit Dog.1st ROZEBOTTEL'S PORTHOS IMP NLD (MR J, MISS L & MISS K GILDER, BLUNDEN & VAN GEMERT) What a beautiful youngster this dog is. He oozes breed type and was presented and handled superbly. He has a lovely convex head with correct proportions and depth of muzzle, large nose with lovely pigmentation and expression. Strong neck onto moderately laid-back shoulders, tight elbows and good straight front with oval bone. Excellent body proportions with correct top line, wide loin slightly falling croup with excellent tail carriage. I really liked his rear with good width and turn of stifle. He was free moving and powered round the ring. Just a little close behind. I am sure when he fully matures will be a force to be reckoned with. Delighted to award him Reserve Best Dog

2nd KAN TRACE VIKING INVADER IMP HRV (MS C, MRS J & MS S FRY, WARD & ZDUNIC SINKOVIC) what a happy young man this was, just loved his character A white and brown dog with a lovely thick waterproof undercoat and presented in good condition. Loved his head with correct skull to muzzle proportions, large nose and good depth of muzzle, excellent pigmentation, strong neck, moderately laid back shoulder tight elbows straight front, level top line, wide loin, well put together rear, large hocks, straight pasterns tight feet with super tail carriage. Moved out and back well effortlessly and with power

3rd MIZANI DOROCCO RAFFAELE (MR A J GRANTHAM). A very well presented brown boy who is slightly longer cast, in a lovely jacket, masculine head, good pigmentation, large eye, correct ear set, just a tad upright in shoulder and lacking in fore chest, level top line, wide croup stood straight on the rear. Moved well but was a little close going away.

Open Class,

1st KAN TRACE TOUCH DOWN TIGER [ATC AX00090HRV] (MR T KACZOREK) This dog caught my eye the moment he powered into the ring. He was a delight to go over in top condition and presented impeccably well. His head is moderately broad with slight stop and strong muzzle, moderately large ears set just above the level of the eye, large nose and excellent pigmentation. Strong neck into moderately placed shoulders. Good tight elbows and straight front with oval bone. He is strong all through with excellent square body proportions with super top line, strong and wide loin slightly falling croup and excellent tail set. His rear quarters are wide, strong and hocks are large and pasterns upright. This dog comes alive on the move and in profile is simply amazing with perfect foot fall. He powered effortlessly around the ring oozing confidence and character. Absolutely delighted to award him Best Dog and BOS.

2nd MIKETTE MARIO MILLIONAIRE AT ZAKRO (MRS L J ADAMO) Another top quality dog. Just shouts breed type and again very well presented. A little slighter built than one but so correct. A very nice convex skull with slight stop, just slightly longer than the length of muzzle which is almost as deep as long. Nice large nose with excellent pigmentation. Strong neck, moderately laid back shoulder, close tight elbows, straight front, ribs narrow at front and correct chest widening out behind the elbows. Correct top line with slight tuck up. Good width of first thigh and large hocks with straight pasterns. Lovely smooth and free movement.

3rd. MIZANI DIORO OVER SAVIO (MISS J NELSON) this was another very nice typical example. A very nice head with ears set just above the eye, large nose and correct bite. Good strong neck, good front assembly with good oval bone, firm slightly sloping top line, slight tuck up with width all the way through. Would prefer a little more turn of stifle, Moved well.

1st MIZANI DIORO OVER SAVIO (MISS J NELSON)

2nd MIZANI DIORBE OF SLOVAKIA AT DUMDIDDLY SHCM ( MS P MCALLISTER) a white 2 year boy very well presented with excellent coat. Very typical masculine head, nice proportions but to complete the picture i would prefer just a touch more length of loin. Well muscled hindquarters and but moved away just a little close.

Veteran Bitch,

1st MIANATRA BOUND TO BE BLOSSOM (MISS R L DEBLASI) A 7 year old white girl in with thick waterproof undercoat, Such a lovely happy character, Feminine head with moderate stop and good pigmentation. Held her top line on the move but would prefer more tuck up and a little more leg. Liked her rear angles and width of first thigh. Just would have preferred more vigour on the move.

Puppy Bitch

1st KAN TRACE XENA THE WARRIOR PRINCESS [ATC AW02725HRV] (MR T KACZOREK)

What a little cracker this youngster is and presented in a super coat. A brown and white girl with a beautiful feminine head Ears set just above the eye and of nice size, large nose, and strong muzzle. Good length of neck onto moderately laid-back shoulders, elbows tight fitting, straight legs with oval bone and slightly sloping pasterns. Super top line with just enough tuck up, strong wide loin with tail set following on from the slightly sloping croup. Good width of first thigh and very well muscled all through. The super construction of this puppy was plain to see and was highlighted on the move with her effortless, tireless and powefull propulsion driving her effortlessly around the ring for all to behold. Delighted to award her Best Puppy and Reserve Best Bitch

2nd MARLEYDOWN DIMENSIONAL DOT AT MIANATRA (MISS R L DEBLASI) Another top quality puppy that I really liked just lacking on the maturity of 1. Lovely feminine head, with shortish strong neck, good body proportions moved out very well holding her top line. Loved her cheeky character. Most definitely one to watch for the future.

3rd BRANSBUBBLE ROISIN DUBH (MS D & MRS B HAMLYN-SHARP & HAMLYN) A very raw youngster that needs a little more time to develop, nice happy character, very nice dark pigment feminine head, Good thick waterproof undercoat and moved ok. Cant wait to see her in a few years.

Junior Bitch.

1st NELBEKIO ELITE EMILIA (MISS J NELSON) A nicely proportioned youngster with a lovely expression and cheeky character. Good thick undercoat, nice topline with width over the loin and croup. Once settled moved very well in profile but coming tended to move a little wide in front.

2nd

IL GRANAIO DEI MALATESTA STRAWBERRY SYRUP AT ARCTICBREEZE (IMP ITA) (MRS L MORT) A 13-month-old youngster that needs a little more time to develop. Feminine head but would prefer shorter muzzle, good ear set, good large nose strong short neck. Tended to look a little long and stood bum high. Good woolly and waterproof under coat. Just at that development age and I’m sure will mature well with a little more time.

Post Graduate

1st MIKETTE ONE IN A MILLION ( MRS J & MISS L BLUNDEN) Another delightful dog from this kennel. Prepared and shown to a very high standard. Super feminine head with lovely expression, short strong neck onto moderately laid-back shoulders. Nice straight front tight elbows, lovely body proportions, top line with good wide loin and croup, well developed and muscled rear that propelled her around the ring with ease.

2nd MIKETTE MILLION DREAMS (MISS M, MRS K & MR B BRANSBY) I see the litter sister to one. Again, a delightful bitch that just needs a little more practice to compete with her litter sister. She was very feminine and has a lovely woolly and waterproof coat. Excellent body proportions. Top line, good wide croup and loin, nice width of thigh and turn of stifle, large hocks and straight pasterns. Moved really well in profile.

3rd MIANATRA DEFINITELY DAISY (MISS R L DEBLASI) Another white bitch that was pleasing to go over. In a lovely woolly waterproof coat Lovely feminine head with good pigmentation. Good body proportions. Would prefer a little more width of thigh and turn of stifle. Moved a little close going away.

Limit Bitch

1st BEDESLEA TICATABOO RL2 EX (MISS C M FRY) A very well presented and trained white bitch. Nice square body proportions , feminine head, good pigment, moderately laid back shoulder, slightly short upper arm lovely width of loin and croup, good width of first thigh and turn of stifle with straight pasterns.

2nd GAESTEN LUCKY LUNA (MRS C SNOWDON) this little bitch had much to admire and was shown with in a good and well-presented coat. Very feminine with a lovely expression. Nice proportions, good top line, good wide loin and croup but would prefer a little more turn of stifle. Carried herself very nicely on the move.

3rd RADIVA BABY OH CHERRIE AT ARCTICBREEZE (IMP SVK) (MRS L MORT) Presented in a good coat of correct texture, with correct top line wide strong loin and good tail carriage. A little upright in shoulder and just a tad long which spoilt the outline for me.

Open Bitch

1st MULTI CH KAN TRACE VERY CHEEKY CHIC [ATC AW02377HRV] (MRS S & MR A ZDUNIC-SINKOVIV & LUCIN) From the moment I set eyes on this young lady I was hoping my hands were going confirm my feelings and oh my she did not disappoint. She was in perfect harmony with her handler who she clearly adored. This young lady is incredibly beautiful all the way through, strong and compact. Her happy character shines and enchants you. Immaculately presented and with excellent muscle, No mistaking her femininity with her beautiful moderately broad head and perfect proportioned muzzle, large dark nose, Lovely expression complimented by her lovely pigmentation and ear set. Strong smallish neck leading to moderately placed shoulder, tight elbows, straight legs with oval bone and slightly sloping pastern. This girl is so strong with ribcage widening from behind the elbow, slight tuck up, strong wide short loin with equally strong muscular croup with her constant wagging tail forming a continuation of the croup. Her hindquarters have excellent width and turn of stifle with large hocks and straight pasterns. This construction all comes together on the move and to witness this young lady glide effortlessly and powerfully around the ring with perfect foot fall is just something that will sit in your memory forever. Absolutely thrilled to award her Best Bitch and Best Of Breed in a closely fought challenge of two outstanding dogs which I learnt after are from the same kennel. I was absolutely delighted to see her and her handler put in another stunning display in the group under Per Iverson taking Gun Dog Group 2. A sight I will never forget.

2nd CH ALFA [ATC AW02848SRB] (MRS M LULIC GALOVIC) Another top quality bitch who was a delight to go over. A bitch tha shouted breed type with her excellent proportions, feminine head, thick woolly water proof coat. Chest dropping to her elbows, straight front, slightly sloping top line, strong wide loin and croup. Good width of first thigh, just prefer more turn of stifle. Moved around the ring with power in harmony with her handler.

3rd MIZANI DIORBE OF VIENNA (MRS L & MR J W G MONK) A very striking and well-presented girl. Slightly smaller that 1 and 2 but had many lovely attributes. Had a super expression and happy. In a lovely thick jacket that would protect her from the cold waters. On the move just tended to paddle a little on the front.

1st MOONREED BELLA ( MR M LIGHT) A squarely built dog or smaller size in a typical woolly thick coat to protect her from the elements. Lovely expression with string jaw. Tends to stand a little wide on her front, Good width all through and correct top line, correct tail carriage and straight rear pasterns, Moved a little close going away.

Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch,

1st GAESTEN LUCKY LUNA (MRS C SNOWDON) A very typical bitch that was so connected to her handler. Lovely to see the eye contact. she enjoyed the experience, Good thick coat and expression, Nice rear angles, Just a little long and moved close going away.

2nd MOONREED WARBLER (MR S A & MRS B L WHITTICK) A well presented white girl in excellent coat, lovely pigment and expression, good leg length, slightly long in loin, liked her width of first thigh, again moved close going away.

3rd GRANCANNA SENECA (MRS L LILLICRAP) a white girl in a nice thick wooly coat, nice head expression with large nose and good pigmentation, correct triangular ears and set just above the eye, prefer a little more leg, rather short tail and lost her top line on the move.
