Breed: Pyrenean Mountain Dog

2020 Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club of GB Championship Show – Special Awards classes

I would just say thanks you to the committee for inviting me to judge the SACs it was a very rewarding experience. Thanks to the exhibitors for affording me the opportunity to go over their lovely dogs; most were quite young and by no means not the finished article yet. Finally, thanks to my very elderly but most capable ring-steward My Barry Denyer.

SACJ (4/1) Three lovely pups all a bit lively on the day and putting their handlers to the test. 1 Edwards’ Shanlimore Island Girl 8 month tallest of the three but a feminine girl with profuse coat marked with pale lemon blaireau. Excellent pigmentation. Well boned and nicely in proportion with some growth left to come. Shoulders well laid back. Moved well but slightly little over-reaching on the rear today. 2 Sanger’s Sogni D’Oro 12 months beautiful all white feminine girl, smallest of the three but so pretty. Coat nice and even throughout and of the correct texture. Nice shoulders complimented by matching rear angulation all on top of some tidy cat like feet. Moved soundly with ease. 3 Blair Penellcy Bennington Bear 10months A proper lad of good size and heavy coat marked with apricot blaireau. Cat feet. Lips a little looser than I would like. Tail includes the required shepherds’ crook. His movement was a little bit loose today but he has plenty of time to grow into his substantial frame.

SACPG (3/1) 1 Kennedy’s Shuangxi Mopsa Kai En Hui At Pyrcot 31/2 years old. Feminine girl with nicely proportioned skull; tight lips and without stop. Good pigment and dentition. Nicely boned. Medium angulation showing her point of hock. Hindquarters were a little high standing but she kept her topline well on the move. 2 Robinson’s Penellcy Warrior of The Gods 3 years masculine lad. Dark amber eyes with good dark pigment to nose and lips. Some v light markings to his head. Strong boned, larger framed. Profuse white coat with harsh texture, displaying an attractive even jacket. Moved well but I preferred movement of 1.

SACO (4/0) Interesting class with dogs representing opposite ends of the type spectrum. 1 Shanlimore Lorenzo 21/2 years old male. Strong boned and of good size. Dark pigment with a pleasantly balanced head. Good length of neck runs smoothly into laid back shoulders. Nicely tucked up underneath with a short loin. Coat texture harsh. Cat like feet. Moved freely and soundly 2 Meakin’s Noah Du Val De Pyrene (Imp FRA) Almost 2 ½ years old, tallest dog I saw today. But good strong bone. His height makes him look a little rangy but he is light on his feet and moves well. Darkly pigmented with oval eyes lending a pleasing expression. Smooth skull without unnecessary ridges. Short neck runs into strong shoulders. Narrower in front than 1. Well angulated with great point of hock. Tail includes the shepherd’s crook and carried in the arroundera on the move. 3 Woodward’s Lisjovia Galactica A couple of months shy of two years a very different type to my 2nd and challenged him really hard for that place. Giving height to both 1 and 2 this lad is heavier in overall type and frame. All white with a broad skull complete with dark pigmentation. Strongly made front carriage with excellent width to the brisket and strong straight legs either side complimenting and accentuating. Chest width is something our breed often lacks but not here. Strong cat feet with sound hocks. Short coupled loin makes a pleasing compact frame and outline. Very thick coat with nice texture and plenty of feathering.
