Griffon Bruxellois

Sincere thanks to the Committee for this invitation, the exhibitors for so sportingly accepting the decisions and my ultra efficient steward. All this contributed to a great day.

I had to forgive some specific faults, so as not to compromise on the correct ‘cobby’ Type, conformation, movement and the typical Griffon head regardless of variety of coat and colour.

Puppy Dog (3,1)

This class presented me with the first challenge of the day!

Two puppies of completely different types

1- Wood’s Delightbull Just Flexing,

A red, rough baby of just 7 months . He is ‘square’ with a level topline and good tailset .

Balanced in angulation that is reflected in movement.

All features of his head need time to develop but has wide ,open nostrils and small, well set ears.

Won this class on his overall shape. ( BPIB)

2- Fernyhough’s Sharnese Freezya Assets,

A red, smooth boy of just 8 months. Completely different in type to 1.

Longer cast, well angulated and moved freely. Tail set could be higher.

Again, all features of the head need time to develop, nice dark, round eyes but currently too long in underjaw so not giving the required, typical expression.

Junior Dog (1)

Mackay’s - Osthaen Thunder In The Night,

Black and Tan rough boy of 16 months. Lovely type giving a very square and smart outline with a well proportioned head. Super topline, angulation and tail set.

Moved very well and freely. Good bone , relative to his size and in good coat with well defined markings. Very nice head, with wide, open features, large black nose pad, well placed with good layback resulting in a beautiful expression. A nice young dog.

Post Graduate Dog (2)

1- Hughes’ and Crawford ‘s Beauborne Endeavour-

Lovely red, rough boy waiting for his new jacket’ ! Square and well balanced of good type.

Level topline , well set tail , good bone and movement.

Good head with wide open features , good width to underjaw , typical expression and super , well set ears. Certainly has time on his side to mature and ‘finish’.

2- Hodson’s Sabai Oleander-

Red, smooth dog of a very different type to 1.Stunning colour and beautiful black pigment on mask.

Square but shorter on ‘ the leg’ resulting in his movement not being so balanced.

Lovely , soft expression with the darkest of eyes. Good width to underjaw but lacks chin and ‘turn up’ so detracts from the required typical expression.

Limit Dog (5)

1- Blore’s Zilcan Ring Of Fire At Movalian-

This red , smooth caught my eye as he entered the ring due to his type, square shape , clean outline and ‘presence’. He is extremely masculine with excellent bone. He is so typically ‘cobby’ with a super topline , tail set and carriage.

He is correctly angulated that results in accurate movement in profile. He has a lovely head with wide, open features, good width to underjaw and good nose placement giving the desired expression. This is enhanced by well set ears. With this dog ‘ what you see is what you get’.

More length to his neck and just one size smaller would finish the picture but I had no hesitation in awarding him his first CC and ultimately BOB.

2 - White’s Emjaycee Time Flies At Wistleyhill,

Red, rough boy of lovely type. Good bone with excellent spring if rib. On the move, keeps his shape and is very balanced. Beautiful head with wide, open features enhanced by lovely small ears. Has good width to the underjaw, prominent chin and good turnup.

Well presented coat.

Pleased to award him the RCC.

3- Gullon’s Barnfall Sunshine JW

Open Dog (7,1)

1- Sturmey’s Foxfly Secret Society ,

Very smart red, rough boy of excellent colour. Different in type from my principle winners as coming out of a smaller ‘mold’. Good movement in profile, nice shape and proportions.

Lovely head with a typical expression and super small ears. Handled and presented well.

A quality boy.

2- Oliver- Barratt’s Risethor Laidbackjack,

Mature , red smooth boy. Sound and well balanced , good topline and tail set.

Typical head with wide open features and good width to underjaw. Good nose placement and large expressive eyes. Smaller ear size and placement would enhance the picture.Presented and handled really well.

3- Swinge’s Ch. Harpersband Case In Point At Balthazar (Imp) JW

Puppy Bitch (1)

1- Cook’s Samaranda Smooth Dancer,

Black, smooth of just 7 months and such a baby. Today she was very overwhelmed .She needs plenty of time to grow and develop.

She has a sweet expression, lovely pigment and a good coat.

Junior Bitch (3,1)

1- Mackay’s Osthaen Scandal By Night ,

Black and Tan smooth bitch that oozed personality. Presented a small, compact square with good bone for size. Level topline with good tail set and carriage. Lovely deep chest and stood ‘four square’. Neck of correct, medium length that enhances her shape. Moved well.

Very pretty head set off with small high set ears. When fully mature should ‘trouble the best’ !

2- Suggitt’s Aptrick Primavera Fresa,

Red, rough bitch of a different type to 1. Wasn’t wearing her best coat today. Presented a ‘cobby’ outline with a level topline and good tailset. Typical expression with nice, wide open nostrils and small ears. Not quite the outline of 1 and would like more fore chest and length of neck.

Handled very well.

Post Graduate Bitch (1),

Mackay’s Osthaen Storm In A Teacup,

Red, smooth bitch that was lovely on the move showing a smart outline.

Enough bone for size and ‘cobby’. Good tail set. On the stand wasn’t so balanced as her movement had suggested. Very pretty head with lovely dark eyes and the desired expression.

Handled and presented very well.

Limit Bitch ( 3,1),

1- Prouve and Price’s Marquant Tinker Belle,

Red, rough bitch of a lovely type. Very balanced both standing on the move. In profile she moved with reach and drive, in fact one of the few seen today. Presented a clean , square outline with a ‘spot on’ tail set. Lovely head with super expression. Shown in good coat. Handled and presented very well. She is still not at her full maturity but pleased to award her, her first CC.

2- Carpenter’s Sabai London Pride,

Red, smooth of a completely different type to 1. Beautiful deep colour set off by a well pigmented mask. Not as ‘square’ 1. She had a very pretty head and a sweet temperament , although ample width to her lower jaw , lacked chin and turn up that detracted from the desired expression. Handled and presented very well.

Open Bitch ( 5)

1- Swinge’s Vendettas Tangerine Balthazar ( Swe. Imp),

Red, rough bitch of a pleasing type. Good , harsh coat of a rich colour. Presented a square outline with good depth and fore chest, set off by a good tail set. Lovely, expressive head with open features, good turn up resulting in the desired expression. Moved well in profile. She has matured and developed well since I last judged her. Pleased to award her the RCC.

2- Hughes and Crawford’s Ch. Cobblehill Gucci With Beauborne ,

Black and Tan , rough bitch out of a ‘smaller mold’. Very square, level top line set off by a good tail set and carriage. Enough bone for her size and moved well.

Lovely ‘typical’ expression with good width to underjaw and good chin and turnup.

Shown and presented really well. Excellent, harsh coat. A worthy champion.

3- Swinge’s Balthazar Tainted Love
