Crufts. Spanish Water Dogs 

I was fortunate enough to judge this wonderful breed the first time they had classes at this show back in 2009, and a great pleasure to judge again in the CC era. Interestingly the entry numerically was pretty similar, but with fewer classes back then they were less spread out. That 2009 show attracted many overseas dog and it seems so did this show. I thought depth of quality was better this time, and whilst there is still work to do, rears were better at this show. A few were too long in muzzle, and some coats of incorrect texture. Proportions do vary still. Where I think the breed has gone backwards is temperament, some a little nervous and one showed aggression. Sportsmanship was great and wins greeted with plenty of applause, although there is always one! I really enjoyed sorting out this entry.

1st   BULL*** [ATC AX00605ESP] (MISS S E GRIFFITH) 

Excellent proportions. He excels in profile action and is v good out and back. Masc head. Short neck. He is rather moderate in angulation, but well balanced. Well sprung ribs. Level topline. Correct coat. 

2nd   VALENTISIMO'S OLLI DANTE (MISS H & G WISEMAN) 

Liked his proportions. He has a v good head. Correct neck. Better front than 1. Could carry more weight. Could be better in hind action. 

Puppy d (3) 

 1st   ZORRAZO ALTER BRIDGE (IMP HRV) (F DONALDSON) 

Really super pup of 9 mths. Liked his proportions. He has a super head, masc of correct muzzle to skull balance and good width to his skull. Wouldn’t want any more neck. Decent front with tight elbows. Well sprung ribs. Can settle in topline. Well made rear, which he uses v well. Would like a better tail. He is a quality d and a super prospect. BP 

2nd   CHANDERHILL TALK O'THE TOWN AT GLENBROWS (MR T D & MRS H L HARRISON) 

He is in super muscle. Would prefer a little more length of body. Head is a bit small for his body. Correct neck. He has a well laid shoulder. Ribs go well back and can still spring. Level topline. Liked his hind angulation but can firm up in hind action.

Quite a varied class with a mix of proportions and some not so good hind action. 

1st   JOSALYN ROLDAN EL MAGO (MR L & MRS L LADLOW) 

Liked his proportions and has a really good coat. Slightly long in muzzle, good width of skull. Correct neck. Strong front. Super ribs. Has a firm topline. Correct rear. Accurate and typical mover. 

2nd   NELSONANDALUZA DE UBRIQUE (MRS S AFFLECK-CARTER) 

Liked his proportions. Just a little close in hind action. V good head. Correct neck. Can still body up, holds a level topline. Needs just a bit more hind angulation. 

3rd   JOSALYN RIO ZIGGYSTARDUST VIA JANAMORIO (MS J PEART) 

Limit d (6) 

1st   VALENTISIMO'S BALLESTEROS (MR P D & MISS J TREBERT) 

Liked his balance and proportions and uses himself v well in profile action. Better head than 2, correct proportions and width. Fairly short neck. Moderate front angulation. Super body. Level topline. Moderate hind angulation. In super coat. Went v well to take RCC in great company. 

2nd   NESTOR VOM HAUSE KRISTO IMP FRANCE (MISS H & G WISEMAN) 

I liked his outline v much, would just prefer a slightly stronger head. Correct neck. Slightly forward in shoulder. Well sprung rib to a short loin. Level topline. Good rear with low hocks. Just a bit close going away, 

3rd   PRIZELANDS ADORMIDERA JACSEN SOLO (MR F & MESDAMES C & S DONALDSON & GLAYSHER)

1st   FI CH DONT TELL MAMA DE SINKOVIC [ATC AW03093HRV] (MS M FREDRIKSON SINKOVIC) 

Masc d of excellent proportions. He has a v good head. Correct neck. Well sprung ribs to a short loin. Topline is better than it can look and it is firm on the move. Well made rear. He is slightly close going away but v accurate on front and excellent profile action. CC 

2nd   CH ZORRAZO DO I SMELL VICTORY [ATC AV01729HRV] ( MRS N TANSACHA) 

Liked his outline and proportions. Could maybe be just a bit more masculine, his head is well balanced. Correct neck. Good width of chest. Well ribbed. Good rear. Parallel going away, could just be firmer coming towards. Covers lots of ground in profile.

Nice type and just a bit more masc than 3. Good proportions. Well bodied. Could be better up and back but typical stride in profile.

Three lovely old girls, looking well.

Liked her proportions. She has a well balanced, fem head. Short neck. Moderate angulation front and rear. Topline is of. Moves with a balanced stride. Best Veteran 

2nd   PRIZELANDS CREME CARAMEL FOR ADORMIDERA (MS J C & MR J R ABRAHAMS) 

In great form, feet and coat not what they once might have been. Liked her head. Correct neck. Well bodied. Not quite front action of 1.

V typy pup of correct proportions. Liked her head. Short neck. Nice front. Well sprung ribs. Well bent stifle with low hocks. She is still rather close in hind action. Good in profile. 

2nd   ZORRAZO AFTER EIGHT [ATC AW02315HUN] (MRS D TROMPKA) 

Quite liked her proportions and profile action. Fem in head. Short neck. Well ribbed back with a level topline. Good rear. Just needs to firm up. 

3rd   VALENTISIMOS FREEDOM (MRS M & MR J S GRIFFITHS)

1st   OH YOU ARE MAGIC VOM HAUSE KRISTO OF GOLDFLY (IMP FRA) (MRS S A GRIEF) 

Won this class on her accurate out and back movement and she is v typical in profile. Like her proportions but could lose some weight to advantage. Fem head. Correct neck. Ribs go well back. Moderate angles front and rear. 

2nd   OH SANCHA VOM HAUSE KRISTO (IMP FRA) (MR M & MRS D J NORTHARD 

Liked her v much, v good proportions, just rather close at the rear moving. Fem head. Correct neck. Can be a bit careless standing in front. Well bodied with a firm topline. 

3rd   ZORRAZO AFTER EIGHT [ATC AW02315HUN] (MRS D TROMPKA)

This was a nice class 

 1st   ZORRAZO ATTITUDE MATTERS (MS M FREDRIKSON SINKOVIC) 

Really super b, correct proportions, fem all through. She has super side action, can just be slightly firmer in front, but she is only 15 mths. Super head. Short neck with correct front. Chest to elbow. Well ribbed to a firm loin. Level topline. Well made rear which she uses really well. I thought she was absolutely lovely, outline just what I wanted.  CC & BOB 

2nd   GRANVIDA DE LA CHICA (R JOPSON) 

She is a fem and sound b of pleasing proportions, looks better on the move than stacked. V good head. Liked her balanced angulation. Well ribbed. Better in hind action than 3. 

3rd   FERRYLANDS HUNTING HIGH AND LOW FOR CHANDERHILL JW (IMP) (DR K L & MR M J HODGKINSON-RUTHERFORD & RUTHERFORD)

Quite hard to sort these out 

1st   CHANDERHILL BIT OF A PICKLE JW EUJW19 CJW19 (DR K L & MR M J HODGKINSON-RUTHERFORD & RUTHERFORD) 

Not the most feminine. She has a super body and just had the edge in profile action. Well proportioned head. Short neck. Quite a good front. Level topline. Hocks slightly high and a bit close going away. Good in front. 

2nd   JOSALYN RIA NESSA VIA JANAMORIO (MS J PEART) 

She is v accurate out and back, could just use her rear a bit better. Lovely head. Correct 

Length of neck. Could be better in upper arm. Enough fill of chest. Level topline. 

3rd   PRIZELANDS SWEET TRUFFLE (MR F & MESDAMES C & S DONALDSON & GLAYSHER)

Very good class. 

1st   SH CH VALENTISIMO'S TIZI (MR N P D, MRS F J & MISS F Z M WALKER) 

Fem b of v good proportions. Like her head. Correct neck. Well laid shoulders. She is well ribbed back. Holds a firm topline. Moderate rear. V accurate out and back, can just lift her front legs slightly. Lovely quality. Thought she was on top form today. Just preferred the rear of younger b so RCC. 

2nd   SH CH ZORRAZO CAN I GET A WOOHOO (MS M FREDRIKSON SINKOVIC) 

She too is of a lovely type with excellent proportions. V good head. Correct neck. Good front and well made rear with low hocks. Firm topline. V good in profile, could just be cleaner up and back, but she is a b I rate very highly.

Good moving b of nice proportions. Fem head, just a bit long in muzzle. Correct neck. Well bodied. Runs up slightly. Moderate rear. 

2nd   HOLAMANOLA WILMA AMARANTA (MS L J WINCHURCH) 

Fem b. She has pleasing proportions. Quite a good mover. She needs to fill in front. Nice rear.
