Boston & District Canine Society

Breed: Neapolitan Mastiff

BOSTON - NEAPOLITAN MASTINI

Having attended a seminar where there were two beautiful Italian imports, I could not believe my eyes. From then on I took a deep interest in this breed. The quality of the entry today was top drawer. This is a very slow maturing breed taking years to grow, develop & come together & when young, can be inclined to be sluggish on the move but overall, the conformation was excellent & such an improvement on the past – I have absolute respect for the breeders who have worked so hard to achieve this level of excellence. I thank the Society for the opportunity to judge this breed & the exhibitors for bringing such beautiful dogs – all were of good breed type.

Two happy puppies who just wanted to play – lovely.

1st – DORGALI'S FRANCO – 8 month old raw male with his head developing nicely. Balanced length of neck & good front angles. Well boned legs & tight feet. Deep, long ribcage & moderate rear angles. Moved freely – RESERVE BEST DOG & BEST PUPPY DOG

2nd - DESTINO IL URAGANO - 8 month old male not quite so far on in development as one. Head developing, moderate length of neck, moderately boned front legs & feet needing to tighten. Level backline & moderate rear angles.

OPEN DOG – 3, 2 abs

1st - TOMMASO GOFFREDO'S TARO – 2.4 year old male. This completely balanced male is magnificent. He is upstanding with a majestic bearing. Head to die for. The top of his broad skull & muzzle were parallel with a definite stop. Defined furrows at the outside edge of his clean & well set eyes. Open nostrils with thick, loose lips & dewlap which were not excessive. Balanced length of neck, well boned front legs & tight arched toes. Shoulder & upper arm of correct angle & placed back on the ribcage to give a broad moderate forechest. Elbows not too tight. He has a deep, long well sprung ribcage & a short, strong & broad loin. Rear angles are moderate to be able to support the weight of this warrior. He is in excellent muscular condition & his weight is spot on. He moved soundly, powerfully & freely covering the ground with little effort – BEST DOG & BEST OF BREED – Delighted for the breed that he made history as being the first Mastini to win the Working Group at a UK Championship show.

PUPPY BITCH – 3, 1 abs

1st – ELECTRA AT MAKAEVO naf taf – 8 month old female of good breed type. Head developing with defined furrows at the outside edge of clean eyes. Moderate length of neck leading into good angles in front & moderate angles at the rear. She held her backline as she moved freely - BEST PUPPY BITCH & BEST PUPPY IN BREED

2nd - GALEOTTA AT MAKAEVO naf taf – 6 month female not quite so far on in development as one. Head developing, moderate length of neck well boned front legs but feet needing to tighten. She held her backline on the move.

JUNIOR BITCH – 3, 1 w/d

1st – CLEO CHARLOTTE – 13 month old female well grown with a good head. Fraction finer in bone & feet needing to tighten. Good front angles & just a fraction over angulated behind. She held her backline as she moved freely.

2nd – ELECTRA AT MAKAEVO naf taf

LIMIT BITCH – 2

1st – MIROSUMA JUNO FOR EVANNASTAR – 2.5 year old female. She is feminine without losing bone & substance. Good head with parallel planes, defined furrows on the outside edge of clean eyes. Open nostrils with thick, loose lips & dewlap which were not excessive. Moderate length of neck in to well laid shoulder & upper arm. She has a long deep ribcage & short broad loin with moderate rear angles. She moved soundly & freely covering ground - BEST BITCH & BEST OPPOSITE SEX.

2nd – CLEO CHARLOTTE

OPEN BITCH – 3, 2 abs

1st - LARGE PAW SELESTIA DEL MASTINI – 3 year old feminine female. She has a good head with parallel planes, defined furrows at the outside edge of clean eyes. Moderate length of neck into well laid front angles. Fractionally lighter in bone she has tight feet. She has a deep long ribcage & short, strong loin. I felt her rear pasterns were too long giving her a rise over the rear. Moved freely in profile.
