Boston & District Canine Society

Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer

I was delighted with the entry and the quality of it. In some classes I was really splitting hairs. I only found a couple of mouth faults, some had light eyes or snipey muzzles which completely alters the expression. I also found some that were far too finely boned, several with a dip behind the withers and a few with soft coats. Some would have benefited from better muscle tone but these were in the minority, with the majority of the entry presented in really hard, fit muscular condition. Thank you to those who entered and to my two stewards who helped keep the ring running smoothly and efficiently.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (4 entries, 0 absent) 1st & BP HAYES’ JHEBRON'S JENO VIA ELFRINDEW Stylish black with the most beautiful head and expression. Good neck into well laid shoulders, plenty of upperarm and good bone and feet. He has depth, a short back and well angulated rear. In tip top condition. He is still a little puppyish as he comes towards but in profile, he covers the ground with excellent reach and drive. I will look forward to seeing how this boy grows. 2nd JOHN’s ZAKOVA HARRIO Longer in the foreface but good eye colour and an appealing expression. Good neck and shoulders. Strong topline, chest sufficiently deep and a well angulated rear. Not the muscle tone of my winner. Moved well. 3rd SCHONEVILLE’s BALVENIE DOUBLE DIAMOND

PUPPY DOG (4 entries, 0 absent) 1st SMITH & REARDON’s WINTERWELL MAIDA STONE A nice head with eyes of good colour and correct ears. Good length of neck, slightly upright in shoulder but good return of upperarm and good forechest. Ribs well back and short loin. He has good bone and feet. For me, a little overangulated behind and I’d prefer less of a slope to his topline. Presented in excellent condition. He moved soundly just not with the extension of the minor puppy, I don’t think he liked the floor. Delighted to hear this win gave him his last points for this JW – congratulations. 2nd POCOCK’s FAYEMM SEA THE STARS On the initial go around, I thought this might be my winner as he covered the ground beautifully in profile. He is balanced and well constructed. However, he was giving his handler a hard time and kept leaning backwards which totally spoilt his outline. He was also side winding on the away and back. I’d love to see him when he’s being more cooperative as he’s a quality boy. 3rd SCHONEVILLE’s BALVENIE DOUBLE DIAMOND

JUNIOR DOG (3 entries, 0 absent) 1st & RDCC, MANN’s VALGER RAGNAR JW Lovely headed boy with eyes of good colour. His neck flows into his shoulders and his topline/tailset is correct. Good depth and width of chest. Coat of good texture. Well angulated rear with good width of second thigh and he has excellent feet. He moves soundly and correctly though you can see just a touch of juvenile as he comes towards. I loved the shape and make of him and felt he did enough to take the RCC today. 2nd ROSE & HUNT’s PINGARYPOINT TOP SECRET AT KAVACANNE JW A bigger dog than my winner and longer cast. Really lovely head with skull and muzzle of correct proportions and eyes of good colour. I’d prefer less of a slope to the topline. Good deep chest. Well angulated, muscular rear. Lovely high arched toes. Moved ok. 3rd POCOCK’s FAYEMM SEA THE STARS

YEARLING DOG (1 entry, 0 absent) 1st ROSE & HUNT’s PINGARYPOINT TOP SECRET AT KAVACANNE JW As prev

POST GRAD DOG (3 entries, 1 absent) 1st COE’s GOOSEPOINT WADDINGTON AT ABBANASH (AI) JW A pleasing head with eyes of good colour and shape. Longer cast than ideal but he is well angulated fore and aft and has good depth of chest. Moved really well, covering the ground efficiently. 2nd STEEL’s WATER GERMANDER OVER BORDERPOINT A flashy boy who was nicely constructed, square and in really good condition. Unfortunately, whilst not lame, he did seem to be favouring his rear left leg on the go around and thus, had to stand second today.

LIMIT DOG (3 entries, 1 absent) 1st STALEY’s JOMEEL MIDNIGHT RAMBLER Old type GSP with a really good head with a roman nose. He is squarely built with a deep chest. Well angulated rear. Decent coat and moved really well. 2nd POCOCK’s FAYEMM SEA THE STARS

OPEN DOG (8 entries, 0 absent) 1st & DCC BROWN’s GRAYGEES GIGOLO JW SGWC I’ve given this boy a group at an open show and was interested to see how he’d matured. He didn’t disappoint. He has a masculine head without any coarseness. Shoulder are laid well back and he has a good return of upperarm. Deep chest with good width to it. Short backed, short loin and a strong, well angulated rear. He was presented in absolutely superb condition. It is on the move that you really see the super construction of this boy, he is foot perfect covering the ground with ease and style. I hear this was his second CC, I’m sure his title isn’t far away. 2nd THURM’s SH CH BRYBURN BACCHUS JW SHCM Another with a lovely head and who was balanced and correct and has a coat of good texture. He moves well with reach and drive. 3rd BROWN & BURNS’ SH CH MAGREGOR THREESACROWD AT POTHOUSE JW SHCM

VETERAN DOG (5 entries, 1 absent) 1st SERPA & GRIFFITHS’ SH CH BARLEYARCH TRUMPETER SHCM A handsome boy of good shape who, like me, doesn’t look anywhere near his age. He has a good topline and tailset, good bone and feet and was the best mover in this class. 2nd TIERNEY’s PUDDLEDUB PYJAMA Another very nice boy but I preferred the topline of my winner. He has a good head, good depth of chest and a short loin. Moved soundly. 3rd THOMPSON’s REDMIRES HIGH SOCIETY

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (2 entries, 0 absent) 1st POCOCK’s FAYEMM SEA THE STARS 2nd BERESFORD’s TUPTONSETT ABOVE AND BEYOND Longer in the foreface than my winner and needs to fill out and drop into his frame as he looks leggy and juvenile at the moment. A well angulated rear and a good coat. Moved ok.

GOOD CITIZENS DOG/BITCH (5 entries, 1 absent) 1st HEYWOOD’s INT CH/CIE/NL/LUX/DE (VDH)/HSCH PITWIT ACTION MAN This boy had been in a previous class and was doing himself no favours on the move but here, he got his act together and I got to see the best of him. He has a lovely head with eyes of good colour. He is a nice size, well constructed all through and shown in excellent condition. He settled to move really well, covering the ground easily and accurately. 2nd JACKMAN’s BALVENIE DRESSED TO THRILL VIA NAVIGAREAMOR Smart bitch with a pleasing head. She is squarely built with a deep chest. Good topline & tailset and a well angulated, muscular rear. Moved well just not with the showmanship of my winner. 3rd HAYNE’s GRAYGEES SKYHAWK IN REBELDYE

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (9 entries, 3 absent) 1st SIELSKI’s ORCHIDSTAR JENGA This girl is only just 6 months old and is absolutely beautiful. She has the most gorgeous head with the sweetest expression. She is well constructed all through and stands on good bone and feet with high arched toes. Her coat is of good texture and she moved beautifully. Balanced and correct, I hope she fulfils the promise that she shows at the moment. 2nd HEATH’s PINSEEKER MRS DOUBTFIRE Another very smart girl who was taller than my winner. She has a lovely head, a well constructed front, good topline, ribs well back and short loin. Well bent stifles. Moved nicely and in lovely condition. 3rd HINCHLIFF’s GOOSEPOINT GAMBLER

PUPPY BITCH (7 entries, 0 absent) 1st SIELSKI’s ORCHIDSTAR JENGA 2nd MCILWAINE’s WINTERWELL STEPPIN STONES TO BENOVEOR A very nice girl who was making her handler work hard. She has a nice head, good neck and shoulders and good topline and tailset. Nice angles fore and aft. Carrying a little too much weight but her quality was such, she deserved this place in a strong class of really good pups. 3rd HINCHLIFF’s GOOSEPOINT GAMBLER

JUNIOR BITCH (5 entries, 1 absent) 1st STALEY’s JOMEEL NAUGHTYLICIOUS Not showing herself to full advantage in the final stack but she had to win this class on her movement. I liked her head & expression and she has a good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Short back with good topline & tailset. Good bone and high arched toes. Well angulated rear. Moving, she is very accurate and covers the ground well. 2nd COX’s CUSHATLAW SERENDIPITY Lots to like about this girl too. Feminine head, nicely put together. Finer boned than my winner but she makes a nice shape standing. Coat of good texture. However, while sound enough, couldn’t match 1 for movement today. 3rd BARKER’s VALGER RAPUNZEL AT BARKERSDREAM JW

YEARLING BITCH (6 entries, 1 absent) 1st TAYLOR & TAYLOR-MORRIS’ DRYSIKA CHA CHA AT PELENRISE A pretty girl with eyes of good colour and correct ear set & length. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upperarm. Good bone and feet. Chest sufficiently deep enough, ribs well back and short loin. Well angulated rear with good width of second thigh. In really good condition and moved the best in this class. 2nd ROSE’s PINGARYPOINT THE WAY TO KAVACANNE JW On the initial stack, I thought this girl was going to be my winner. She is finer boned than 1 but is well constructed and balanced. She moves beautifully in profile, I just found her a little wide going away. 3rd STALEY’s JOMEEL NOW I'M HERE

POST GRADUATE BITCH (5 entries, 2 absent) 1st BARKER’s RADSTORM LEGAL EAGLE AT BARKERSDREAM JW A feminine head of good proportions and with a nice expression. Good front angulation with plenty of upperarm. Slight dip behind the withers, tail set on correctly. She has adequate rear angulation and was in lovely condition. Moved really well and it was this that secured her the win. 2nd HAYNE’s GRAYGEES SKYHAWK IN REBELDYE Smaller girl than 1 who is a lovely shape in profile and has a lovely head. Moved soundly but not with the reach of my winner. 3rd PRIOR’s JOLICOEM JEVINGTON OF WHINCHAT

LIMIT BITCH (5 entries, 2 absent) 1st & RBCC ELRINGTON’s BARLEYARCH DORITO AT TEQUESTA JW A smart bitch who is quality all through. I liked her head & expression, she has a well angulated front, a good topline and tailset, good depth and a strong, well angulated rear. Her coat is good and she is balanced and correct. Her beautiful construction is further evident when she’s moving. She covers the ground accurately and with style. 2nd MANN’s ELFRINDEW LACEY TO VALGER JW I was really splitting hairs between 1 and 2. This girl is typey, well constructed and was presented today in hard, fit muscular condition. In profile, she has super reach and drive, I just preferred the front movement of my winner as she came towards. 3rd BROWN’s GRAYGEES ZELDA SAYRE

OPEN BITCH (4 entries, 0 absent) 1st IZARD’s SH CH YOCKLETTS CORDIALE JW A beautiful bitch that I have long admired. She is a lovely type with a classic head/expression. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders, good depth and width of chest. Correct topline/tailset and a well angulated rear. She moved soundly and accurately but just wasn’t giving her best today and thus paid the price in the challenge. 2nd TROW’s CH WINTERWELL INCA TRAIL JW Another absolutely beautiful example of the breed. She is so well constructed and has a coat of good texture. Not the muscle of my winner but she moved well and was well handled. 3rd TIERNEY’s CEILLOCH CRIMSON

VETERAN BITCH (1 entry) 1st, BCC & BOB THURM’s SH CH VALGER ODETTE This was the one today which gave me goosebumps. She screams “GSP” to me. She has a beautiful head with the most noble expression. She has good length of neck into well laid shoulders and with a good return of upperarm. She has good depth of chest with ribs well back and a short loin. Correct topline and tailset. Well angulated rear with straight hocks. She is just so balanced, correct and retains femininity whilst still looking like she could do the job she was bred for. Her super conformation is further illustrated when she moves. She is foot perfect and covers the ground accurately and effortlessly, I could watch her all day long. Delighted to hear that the group judge (who is also a breed specialist) appreciated her qualities too and she got a group place. Congratulations.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (3 entries, 2 absent) 1st HAYNE’s ZAKOVA GABBANA IN REBELDYE A flashy girl with a nice head and eyes of good colour. She has a good front with plenty of upperarm. She has a dip behind the withers and looks a little leggy at the moment which makes her look unbalanced. Moving erratically here but I think she was another who didn’t like the floor surface. Well muscled.
