Boston Championship Show - 11 January 2020
Keeshonds
Thank you to the Committee of Boston Championship Show for inviting me to judge one of my favourite breeds. I had a super entry, thank all those that entered and allowed me to enjoy your dogs. Special thanks to my Stewards who kept the ring running very efficiently. It was a fun day and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to sit and watch the Keeshond Club Open Show being judged afterwards.
PD (3/0) 1 Brunt’s DIVNYI DRUG DAR, 7.5 mths. Good wedge head of correct proportions with definite stop. Lovely expression with correct oval eye and required spectacles, good ear size and shape. Moderate neck leading to level topline and well-set tail, curl could be tighter. Compact body, with good spring of rib and short loin and excellent bone. Moderately angulated Fore and aft with front being a little narrow at present, should improve with age, sound rear movement, good brisk pace. Well coated, good texture, colour will hopefully clear as he changes coat. Presented a very pleasing overall picture. BP. 2 Watkins’ - EERONDAALI ORLANDO. 6 mths. Still very much a baby, with lots of developing to do. Nice head, expression and good spectacles. Ears appeared a little larger but nice shape. A shade longer in body than one, but the lower tailset makes him appear longer than he is. Good body with ample spring of rib, slightly longer in loin. Lovely feet and well off for bone, a little too angulated on the rear for me, but nice short rear pasterns. Good definition of colour, but a little too tawny at present, hope this will improve with age. 3 Fitches SAMOYKEES HARBOUR LIGHTS.
JD (2/0) 1 Harris’ KICHIGAI BOY IS BACK IN TOWN FOR WATCHKEES. 13 mths. This correctly sized boy scored in overall compact shape and sound rear movement. Super head and expression, lovely small ears set well. Good topline with tail set tail well on carrying good plume. Lovely body could be a little shorter in loin. Moderate angulation with good bone and super feet. Would prefer a little less coat, but lovely colour with clear definition. Moved very well, just needs to settle in front. 2 Peck’s KWAJONGEN HE'S A DANDY BYQUY. 14 mths. Nice overall picture with much to like but lost out on movement being a little over angulated on the rear and having a ‘cycling’ action today. Lovely head and well arched neck, good topline and well-set tail with good curl. Good definition of colour but could do to be clearer silver. Well off for bone and correct round feet. A shade longer in loin than 1. Moving rather wide on front, but nice to see he was not too close behind like so many were today.
PGD (2/0) 1 Pattison’s SERENAUBACH FULL OF WONDER. Nice outline. Good head and expression, ears could be smaller, spectacles as required. Could have slightly more neck and could be better arched. Enough forechest showing better upper arm in front. Good body, ample spring of rib, level topline with well-set tail. Good coat, not too much length and of good texture. Not as clearly defined but of good colour. Moved soundly. 2 Rose’s ROSSVALE ENDEAVOUR TO ESKORKEES. Another with a good head and expression. Neck a little short and more upright in front. Good spring of rib, level topline, good tail set with excellent curl. Good coat with good definition but colour not as clear as 1. Sound rear but moved a little wide in front.
OD (4/0) 1 Hickson’s CH KICHIGAI'S ONLY THE LONLEY. Wow, how this dog has improved since I last judged him as a youngster, now 4 yrs. Not a big dog, but certainly big enough. Fantastic short, compact, body showing complete balance. Super head and expression, clear spectacles with good ears of nice size and shape. Good length of neck which was well arched. Short in back with correct tail set. Moderately angulated, nothing overdone. Loved his coat which was of good colour, clear shoulder markings and of correct length with super texture. Loved his typical brisk movement, easily the best mover here today. Only one thing I would prefer, a little more substance, but he is totally in proportion with his size. BD & BOB. Was thrilled to see him take Group 4! 2 Harris’ CH/NL CH NERADMIK ALL ABOUT THE BOY FOR WATCHKEES SHCM JW CW19. Another dog I really like, but quite different to my winner. Lovely head and expression, enough neck but can appear shorter due to profuse coat. Well angulated, with super substance and correct feet. Good ribbing but should be shorter in loin making him appear slightly longer. Level topline, well set tail but could have tighter curl. Super colour and definition, but for me a little too much coat. Moved very soundly, but not quite the required brisk movement of my winner. Happy to award him RBD.
JB (4/0) 1 Hickson’s KICHIGAI'S UPTOWN GIRL. 13 mths. Loved this youngster. Super colour, the clearest silver and black here today. Super head with correct expression and lovely ear size, shape and used very well. In profile showing good neck with moderate arch leading to level to level topline and well set tail with good curl and lovely plume. Moderately angulated front and rear with enough fore-chest. Good spring of rib, but a little longer in loin. Super coat of good enough texture, profuse but not over-coated. Full of herself today, which is so typical of the breed but still moved soundly throughout. Pleased to award her BB. 2 Clark’s KWAJONGEN SHE'S A MUSE. Another lovely bitch with lots to like. 14 mths. Pretty head and expression, good ears although a little larger than my winner. Enough neck, good topline, well set tail. Solid body with good spring of rib, longer cast than 1. Good quality coat but colour could be clearer. Moved well and pulled all the stops out in the challenge to take RBB. 3 Brunt’s ALMAZNYI ISTOCHNIK KADRIL ZADORNAYA.
PGB (3/0) 1 Pattison’s EASTKEES THE SUNBIRD. Good head and expression with apparent spectacles. Ears looked a little large, not helped by being out of coat. Level topline, well set tail with decent curl. Moderate angulation fore and aft but lacked in upper arm. Well sprung rib would prefer shorter loin. Coat of good texture, acceptable colour but well defined. Moved well. 2 Redler & Wheatley’s BYQUY KINKY BOOTS AT KEITAKEES. Pretty bitch with best colour in the class. Shorter in neck but good ruff. Topline not quite as level and tail set a little lower but good plume. Correct spring of rib, longer in loin. Moved well on front but rear could be stronger. 3 Brunt’s ALMAZNIY ISTOCHNIK VOLOGODSKIE KRUZHEVA.
OB (8/2) 1 Divers IR CH KICHIGAI RARE EDITION AT MURMANSK JUN CH, CW 11,12,18 CJW 11,SHCM. What can I say, a 10-year-old spayed bitch, who despite her smaller size really showed this class how to move! Lovely head with definite stop and correct proportions, spectacles could be clearer. Good ears used well. Enough neck leading to level topline. Tail well set with adequate curl. Moderately angulated on front, a little too much on rear but not evident on the move. Rather heavily coated, however being spayed that is to be expected. Superb colour and excellent definition. Moved with exuberance, smiling at all who watched. Reminded me so much of the Kees bitches being shown 20 years ago. 2 Axford & Sherwood’s LILLI MARLINA OF WATERMYTH. Different type to my winner. Nice head and expression, small ears of good shape. Longer cast in body but good spring of rib. Moderately angulated. Closer coated, good texture jacket of ok colour, well defined markings. Gained her place on her sound movement which was sadly lacking in this class. 3 Hickson’s CH KICHIGAI MAGIC DANCER JW.
