Whippets
I would like to thank the exhibitors for such a fantastic entry with especially the minor puppy & puppy classes in both sexes being so extremely well filled making for some tough decisions on the day. Thank goodness for two very efficient stewards making my day so much easier.
But a few thoughts from the day, some of which gave me real concern I am sad to say, including conditioning of exhibits and movement. I am well aware that with the atrocious weather we have had that it has been quite difficult to correctly condition dogs so movement & muscle tone was possibly affected by this but with some fronts presented it became apparent that regardless of conditioning I was not going to see the movement that I was looking for. Many say the old adage of ‘if it’s made right it will move right’ is incorrect but all I can say in reply to this is that many who were, in my opinion, not made right with regard to fronts did not move right which was very sad to see. Upright fronts, especially upper arms, gave the impression of a ‘shunted’ forward front, lacking fill & that lovely shape when viewed from the front. And this did not bode well for that lovely, light front extension of the Whippet. The overall balance becomes wrong and the rear, the power house, does not move in sync with the front making for untidy movement. A few had quite dirty teeth and over long nails but in the main the overall presentation was good.
After saying that I did enjoy my day judging this most lovely breed and was delighted not only with the entry but with the choice I had to choose from. My winners pleased me enormously and in most classes I found what I considered to be my idea of the Whippet from the entry presented. However I was sad to be told that declaring a Best Veteran in Breed was not required on the day.

1st: PERKINS Mr & Mrs R J & C S Silkridge Just Joey
Such a smart puppy who seems determined to strut his stuff at full speed but with lovely flowing & curvy lines under the hand. Lovely in head & expression, good ears, neck of length with strength into a well laid front, good for depth of body for age, correct bone, pasterns & feet , curvy & muscled rear quarters, no exaggerations, presented in lovely condition, just needs to drop into his frame a touch more now.
2nd: VARNAM, Ms S L & PARKER Mr S J Supetas Mojito
Steady mover for his age, good in head & ears, width & length of neck flowing into a nicely laid front assembly. Good depth of body for age, curvy underline, well ribbed back, firm in loin, very slightly longer cast in back than 1st, and with curvy rear quarters and width across his stifles.

1st: SYKES Mr R P Veredon Another Valente BPD
Close decisions in this class headed by this boy who gives the impression of maturity even though a baby as yet. At times he was a little unsettled on the move but gave me enough to assess his soundness. Lovely head, expression & ears, good length & width of neck, well laid shoulder & reasonable return of upper arm, curvy underline & topline into unexaggerated & muscled rear quarters, stood on good feet.
2nd: PRICE Ms C Railfield Rainomen for Silkdance
Very honest dog with good angulation front and back, sound moving and flowing lines to his body. Nice shaped head although prefer a touch more elegance, good length & strength of neck, correct depth & length of body & well ribbed back, firm loin, good width across his stifles, good for muscle tone and correct for bone and feet.

Loved this delightful dog, very steady and sound on the move with a lovely head & expression, good length of neck with strength flowing into a lovely angled front. He had good depth to his body with good heart room, a curvy underline and a gentle rise to his topline. Rear angulation was curvy but not overdone and a super width across his stifle and lovely second thigh. Stood on good feet & presented in lovely condition. Delighted to award him the RCC.
2nd: MYCROFT, Mrs S M & MYCROFT, Miss F S & BROWN Mrs Shiny Sensations Wish Upon A Star With Supeta (Imp)
Striking male with overall nice angulation, a lovely head & expression and firm neck of good length. Good for body depth & length of ribbing, firmness on the loin, curvy rear quarters with width across stifles ,moved out well but stood back on his pasterns here.

Not the easiest of classes to judge.
Good overall shape to this dog, a curvy outline especially the underline and into the rear quarters with a well laid front assembly. Lovely in head & expression and length & breadth of neck, good for depth of body, nicely ribbed back with firm loin into his unexaggerated rear quarters. Width across his stifles & good second thigh, moved out soundly but just a tad untidy at times.
2nd: DENNIS-SMITH Mrs D Nuit D'ete Des Plaines Des Bruyeres At Brynnsimeon
Overall a slightly rangier type, nice in head, expression and ears and length & strength of neck but would prefer a touch more rise of his topline. Overall angulation was sufficient with depth of body, well ribbed back & firm in loin. A little untidy on the move

1st: HAWKER Mrs C Molly Top Dream Maker
A very different class for type & movement, this young male just did enough to take the class. Curvy dog with a good head piece & lovely expression, firm in neck into his well laid shoulder although a touch more upper arm would finish the picture. Curvy underline & topline, good body depth & nicely ribbed back into a firm loin and shapely rear quarters with nice width across the stifles. Moved out soundly but lacked verve especially in the challenge.
2nd: WAYMAN Miss H Speymalt Northern Star JW
Lovely head & expression on this dog that has a correct neck of good length & width, good overall angulation and depth of body with fill, well ribbed back into his curvy rear quarters, correct bone and sound on the move but today I felt that he was not showing himself to his best advantage.

This dog has now matured into a super male from his lovely shape of head & gorgeous expression, super ears, good neck and lovely front assembly with fill. A curvy underline and topline, good depth to his body with heart room, well ribbed back into a firm loin, gently sloping croup into unexaggerated rear quarters with lovely width across the stifles. Correct for bone and stood on good feet, he moved out so soundly from all angles, in super condition, I was delighted to award him the DCC and BOB.
2nd: POOLE Mr G Ch Crosscop No Matter What
Good for head & expression & good length neck flowing into his nicely laid front assembly. Has the depth & length of body, well ribbed back, firm in loin and curvy sweep to rear quarters. Good width across the stifle, correct in bone and feet, considered for the RCC but felt the youngster was that bit tidier on the move.

Hard to believe that this lad is now in veteran, presenting an overall picture of curves with no exaggerations. Would prefer a little more refinement in his head, great ears and a neck of width & strength flowing into his well laid shoulder. Good depth of body, well ribbed back, firm over loin into curvy rear quarters with width across stifle. Moved out soundly to take this class. BVD
2nd: DUFTY, Mrs P M & MORLAND Mr R Ch Triken Never Stop Dreaming
Another unexaggerated dog presenting a curvy outline overall who was good in head & expression, nice ears and length of neck into a well laid front. Sweep to underline & slight rise over the loin, good body depth & ribbing all flowing into correctly angled rear quarters with good width across the stifle. Just a touch untidy on the move today.

1st: FRYER Mr M & Mrs K Osterfen Aphrodite At Stonefox
Such a feminine baby with a lovely head & expression, lovely length & strength of neck for her age flowing into a lovely front assembly. Good for bone & feet, sufficient body depth for age with a lovely curvy underline and well ribbed back. Firm enough in topline sweeping into curvy but not exaggerated rear quarters with a good stifle and let down hocks. A lovely sound pup although we had to have a couple of tries for me to see her full potential.
2nd: BOUGHTON-WHITE Mrs J & Mr B Ipanema Californian Girl
Another feminine girl who, again, feels very good under the hand. Attractive head & expression, good length & strength of neck into a nicely laid shoulder but who needs to settle back into her frame for the depth of body to drop. Standing a little back on her front feet making the upper arm straighten somewhat here. Well ribbed back, curvy rear & in lovely condition & sound on the move.

Two lovely bitches heading this class & just loved this bitch for her femininity, size and curves, no exaggerations.
