Golden Retrievers

Thank you to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at this show and also thanks to my brilliant stewards who made my day even more enjoyable. A pleasure to judge such a lovely entry, at a super venue with great hospitality and a friendly atmosphere. The large outside rings were a pleasant surprise but unfortunately the Scottish weather had left the ground very soggy, which did affect some of the handlers and exhibits.

Puppy (6, 0)

1. O’Neill’s Lewisglen Fantasy. 9mth old pale bitch in lovely coat and condition. Not exaggerated in anyway. Lovely balanced, symmetrical outline. Well balanced head with a kind expression, dark eye, good pigmentation and correct scissor bite. Good length of neck, well laid back shoulders, good upper and straight forelegs. Lovely cat like feet. Good depth of rib and short coupled. Well bent stifles, straight hocks and good second thigh. Level topline and well set tail, which she remained level on the move. Moved very well with a long free powerful stride. Considered her for top honours and I look forward to seeing how she matures. Pleased to award her BP and see her placed 2nd in a large Special Puppy Class (as there was no puppy group at this show).

2. McDonald’s Lamancha New Adventure. 11mth old pale dog in good condition and coat. Handled and presented beautifully. Nicely balanced outline for his age. Kind expression, dark eye, good pigmentation and scissor bite. Good length of neck, nicely angulated front, straight foreleg and lovely cat like feet. Good depth of rib and short coupled. Good loin and strong muscular legs with well bent stifles and straight hocks. Moved with drive but not as well as 1.

3. Richmond & Fairburn’s Grassyards Call Me Madam

Junior (3, 1)

1. McDonald’s Lamancha New Adventure.

2. Farquharson & Strasser’s Manfluerdean Cook. 9mth old pale dog. Nicely balanced outline. Kind expression and balanced head. Good pigmentation, dark eye and scissor bite. Good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders, straight forelegs and round feet. Well sprung ribs with good depth. Well bent stifles and straight hocks. Level topline and good tail set. Moved well when settled. Novice handler showed him well and in time as they both learn and mature together they will make a promising pair.

Post Grad (7, 5)

1. Paterson’s Trystinthorn Aliona. 3 ½ yr. old pale bitch. In good coat, condition and presented well. Kind expression, dark eye, good pigmentation and scissor bite. Good length of neck. Nicely laid back shoulders, straight forelegs and good feet. Good depth of rib and short coupled. Nicely bent stifles and straight hocks. Moved with drive and covered the ground well.

  2. Webster’s Tasheen Peppermint. 22mth old rich golden dog. Slightly out of coat but overall in lovely condition and happy. Well balanced head with a kind expression. Lovely dark eye, good pigmentation and scissor bite. Good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders, good upper arm, straight foreleg and cat like feet. Well balanced outline without exaggeration and level topline. Good depth of rib, short coupled and strong loin. Well bent stifles, straight hocks and level topline. Held his topline and tail level on the move. Liked this boy very much but was unable to award him the class due to his handler being unable to move him to get the best from him.

Limit (1, 1)

Open (4, 2) 1. O’Neill’s Thornywait Color Me Red. 5yr old mature mid gold bitch. In lovely coat, condition and handled well. Not exaggerated in any way. Very much liked her type and style. Lovely symmetrical and balanced outline. Well balanced head with a kind expression. Dark eye, good pigmentation and scissor bite. Lovely length of neck. Well laid back shoulders, good length of upper arm. Elbows were close fitting and straight forelegs were placed well under her body. Good depth and spring of rib. Short coupled and good loin. Strong muscular legs with well bent stifles, good second thigh and straight hocks. Lovely level topline and good tail set, she held her topline on the move and carried her tail level also. Moved well with long free strides and covered the ground well. Close decision in the challenge with the puppy, her daughter, but pleased to award her BOB and see her go on to be awarded GP4.

2. Paterson’s Angelusparks Heaven Sent to Moloko. 5 ½ yr. old pale bitch. Different in style to 1. In good coat, condition and presented and handled well. Nicely balanced outline. Kind expression, good pigmentation and scissor bite. Good length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and straight forelegs. Good depth of rib. Well bent stifles and straight hocks. Moved well.
