French Bulldog Club Of England

French Bulldog Club of England Open Show – 5th May 2019

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Club for the opportunity to judge the Spring Open show and for putting me at ease upon arrival. The venue and ring were well laid out and my efficient Stewards Jane Morgan and Richard Smith kept everything running smoothly all day and this was very much appreciated. Thanks to the members of the Committee who worked hard in the kitchen for the lovely lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and thank each one of the exhibitors who attended for the opportunity of judging a lovely group of dogs. If I was to make one observation from the day was the surprising lack of muscle tone in some exhibits, we all know Frenchies love a sofa, but we need to remember that the standard calls for a small solid dog and lack of exercise did show in the movement of some.

Minor Puppy Dog (1)

1) Krall’s – Jafrak Striped Rock, A well-marked lovely brindle just 6 months. Although immature in head at this stage, it is square in shape with required width and depth to well cushioned muzzle. Good width to lower jaw, he has wide set round dark eyes. Good shape and size to his correctly placed Bat Ears. Good width to his chest giving him good square straight front. He is well off for bone and this gives a nice look of substance for his age. Neat feet with correct dark nails. Well laid shoulder. He has a gentle rise over loin. Well angulated hind quarters and he moved well.

Puppy Dog (2, 1a)

1. Cassidy’s Chinaskys Charlie Bucket – Brindle male 11.5 months, a lovely boy who is maturing nicely. Well balanced and put together, good size and shape in profile. He has a lovely masculine square head with well-placed dark eyes, fine wrinkling to forehead which gives typical soft expression. Nicely padded cheeks. Good width of jaw. Correctly placed Bat Ears of good shape and size. Strong neck with correct shape and length. Well boned straight front leading to tight feet with correct dark short nails. Deep chest and good spring of rib, pleasing underline. He has a gently roached topline which leads to a low set good tail. Well angulated muscular hind quarters. Sound in movement once he decided to co-operate with his handler. Pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog

Junior Dog (3)

1. Freeze’s Beaufrogz Bronzite Warrior of Texastea – 13 month old Brindle. His head is square with good turn up to wide lower jaw, well padded muzzle. Correct bite with good dentition. Beautiful dark eye and a soft expression. Well placed nose with open nostrils, prominent stop. Correctly placed ears. Prominent forechest and deep in brisket. Adequate bone to his straight front leading to feet which for me were a little long but do have the desired dark nails. He has a shapely neck of moderate length. Well laid shoulder. Good spring of rib, Gentle roach over his strong loin. Good size tail. Nice angulation to hindquarters and he moved well.

2. Morgan & Ling’s Agramer’s No Alibi at Tytorro (Imp) – Dark Brindle. He is also 13 months but I didn’t feel quite the maturity of 1). He is a well balanced package in profile. Square in head, broad well cushioned muzzle, well padded cheeks. Round eye of deepest black, finely wrinkled forehead. Wide set Bat Ears which he was reluctant to use at times but they are of good size and shape. I would prefer a tighter bite but he still has some maturing to do. Super straight front with good bone, tight feet with dark black nails. Good depth to chest and nice cut up. He has a good spring of rib which gives him a shapely body. Short in loin. Sound hindquarters, with well let down hocks. Excellent size to tail. Just preferred expression and maturity of 1)

3. Tuttle’s Bamabel Buster Keaton

Post Graduate Dog (5,2a)

1. Pleasance’s Katakia Last Man Standing JW A Well marked Brindle Pied 20 months and a lot to like about him. Masculine head with well padded cheeks, a broad and deep muzzle which create the required squareness. Good mouth. He has a lovely expression, dark wide set eyes, prominent stop. Good nose placement and he has lovely open nostrils. Nice size and shape to his well placed ears. Strong muscular straight front leading to neat feet. Good width and depth of chest. Strong neck. Cobby

body shape with excellent spring of rib, I feel he could do with a just a little more length of loin to be truly balanced. Strong muscular hindquarters and he moved out well.

2. Fiddes’ Nanterre Ultimate Deal 23 months Dark Brindle Larger in frame than 1) Another with a good masculine square head with wide and deep well cushioned muzzle, good width to lower jaw. Dark round well placed eyes. Well set good sized ears which he used well. Thick strong neck, wide in front, good depth to brisket, he has ample bone in front, but was a little low on his pasterns and feet could be tighter. Thick shapely neck, good shoulder placement. In profile he is longer in loin than 1) and has a little more roach to his topline. Low set small tail. Moved ok.

3. Snook’s Kanshim Seven Deadly Sins

Limit Dog (7,2a)

1) Scott’s Amuelle Little Tom Thumb ShCM 3.5 years nicely marked brindle. He has substance in abundance. Large square head with well padded cheeks, good strong broad and deep muzzle with plenty of cushioning. Would prefer a little less length of flews. He has dark eyes and soft kind expression. Nice size and shape to his well placed Bat Ears. Sound strong straight front with tidy feet. Good width and depth to chest. Thick strong neck of adequate length, well laid shoulder, nice shape to body, gentle topline, good underline, a little longer in loin than some but doesn’t affect his overall balance. Moderate hind angulation. Moved and handled well. (RBD)

2) Thomas’ Eastonite Domino Dandy – 4.5 year old Pied Male another one with plenty of substance and bone. Lovely cobby sturdiness to him in profile. He has a large square head, nicely padded cheeks, good width to muzzle. Well placed dark eyes. Fine wrinkling to his domed forehead. Well placed Bat Ear of correct shape and size. Good width and depth of chest giving correct square straight front. Muscular neck of good length. Well laid muscular shoulder. Gentle rise over his strong loin, excellent spring of rib Low set tail. 3) Stidwell’s Lairdstom Oban Bay Boy at Beaufrogz

Open Dog (2,1a)

1) Pearce’s Bullhawk Rasputin – 2 year old Brindle He stood alone in his class but he takes your eye immediately with his “ I’m handsome and I know it” attitude Although on first appearance he is not as substantial as some of the other class winners once you have your hands on him you can truly appreciate his strength and musculature. Excellent square head, broad strong well padded muzzle. Good under jaw with correct turn up. Good bite and dentition. Excellent nostrils on his well placed nose. Wide set dark eyes and alert expression, this is mirrored in his well placed and upright Bat Ears. He has a strong straight front with tight pasterns and very neat feet with dark nails. Good length of neck, Muscular shoulders, pleasing topline and gentle cut up. Strong in loin. Low set small tail, Strong thick thighs and well let down hocks. He moved effortlessly around the ring and free stood four square, a really lovely dog and I was pleased to award him Best Dog and Best in Show.

She has gentle cut up which gives a pleasing underline. Another with strong muscular hind quarters.
