Maidenhead & District Canine Society

A big thank you to Naomi Forrest and her committee for their invitation to judge BIS, plus the Imported register and Any Variety Veteran. Judging BIS is always a huge honour, and I was extremely grateful to the Group Judges for sending through a delightful selection of dogs in both the adult group and the puppy groups, giving me some delightful dogs from which to make my selection.

BIS was the Papillon, Ivani & Davidson- Poston’s Int/Slo Ch Whip Honey Double Smash SFCM, a delightful showman, who is very alert and attentive to handler, putting in a fabulous performance. Presented in super condition, both coat and muscle. Lovely expression from correct skull and wide set feathered ears, with dark medium eye. Well constructed, moved true in all directions, with lively gait. RBIS – Wickers & Munday’s Jacalous Catch Me if You Can for Vukasin, Siberian Husky, young bitch who caught my eye for her excellent balance and lack of exaggeration. Lovely temperament, well boned and coated without being overdone. Typical foxlike head, with lovely almond eye, giving bright expression. Well laid back shoulders and good bend of stifle give complimentary angulation, and she is light and effortless on feet.

BPIS – the Shetland Sheepdog, Haensel’s Sherkarl Copper Highlights, Well matured puppy, in excellent coat, completing a very well balanced picture in profile. Correctly proportioned head, with correctly placed eye and ear, flat skull. Well angulated and with typical broad rump and low set tail. Graceful on the move and with a big ring certainly showed off her daisy cutting action. RBIS – Nolan’s Villenelle’s Lovin the Sun, Pomeranian, a little dog with plenty of attitude, compact in outline, with thick double coat, and a classic mane. Foxy head, with bright expression from oval eye, and tiny ear, good dentition. Short neck, moderate angulation, gives him the quick action that is so typical, true in all directions.

AV Imported Register

PD/B (4,3) 1. Orchard & Holyland’s Fiesta Show Russian Pride (Imp), Russian Toy, what a delightful pup, what he lacks in size he certainly makes up for in personality, definitely meets the brief – active & lively and not timid! Correct square outline, with typical rise over loin, tail set on high and carried high on the move. Small rounded skull, small muzzle with well-defined stop. Large ears, set high and well feathered. Moderately angulated and moved well behind but still needs to tighten in front. BP JD/B (2,0) 1. Holyland’s Vivaprima Geraldika, Russian Toy, red bitch well bodied and square in outline. Tail set a little low. Rounded skull, large eyes, long prick ears set high. Good chest and moderately angulated, moves well but needs to make a little more of herself in the ring, RBIR. 2. Orchard’s Manatek Austin Tacious, Russian Toy, B&T boy, rather high on leg which affects overall outline. Firm straight topline and high set tail. Attractive in head and expression, with good eye and ear, and preferred his head to winner, but felt he needed to drop in chest and mature in body. Not as positive on move as winner. PG D/B (3,1) 1. Holyland’s Primadonna Iz Beloi Rusi, Russian Toy, Red with black overlay, square in outline, stand on straight bone with rather long feet. Rather broad in chest. Attractive head with correct eye and good ears well placed and feathered. Angulation is moderate. Move ok just a shade wide in front. 2. Colin’s Vivaprima Ferrari Black Star, Russian Toy, B&T smooth, correct bone to oval feet. Croup rather rounded and tail set low. Attractive head and expression. Elbows held very tight under body and caused high setting hackney action. OD/B (6,2) 1. Dennis’ Bailey of Sereno Spirit, White Swiss Shepherd, strongly built dog of good size, excellent bone, and with correct weatherproof coat. Head has correct length, with flat skull and parallel planes. Dark almond eye and ex pigment throughout. Good length of neck to well laid back shoulder. Strong loin and rump. Moves well in all directions, BIR and G4. 2. Orchard’s Grande Misterio Beatrix My Soul at Manatek, Russian toy, Brown & tan, just off square in profile with firm straight back, and correct fine boned legs to oval feet. Attractive head, rounded skull short muzzle and correct long pointed ears. Moved ok in profile just a little close behind. 3. Holyland’s Dolgozhdannaia Udacha Kara.

AV Veteran (29, 12) 1. Walden’s Fielgar Majestic Legend ShCM, Am Cocker, 11 years old in excellent condition, beautiful head with rounded skull, defined stock and square muzzle, full dentition of strong clean teeth. Powerful front, with good reach of neck, deep chest and well set shoulder. Strong pasterns Firm back to powerful hind, well angulated and shows super drive on the move. Sound in all directions. 2. Davidston-Poston’s Ch/Ir/NL/Int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser JW ShCM CW14, papillon, rectangular in profile with firm back to med neck. Exquisite head, slightly rounded skull, good eye and the classic ears, framing the skull. Topline is strong and held well on move. Tail well feathered and held to one side. Another who excellent on move, sound in all directions.

As an aside, I was rather shocked to see the number of exhibits who had very bad breath caused by terrible dental hygiene – these poor old dogs must be in discomfort from the plaque and obvious bacterial infections judging from the smell. Please look in your dogs mouth’s and if they do not have white teeth they need to see a vet – better they lose a tooth or two than suffer from dental decay.
