Southampton & District Canine Association

Such a lovely venue for this well-run show, with judges and exhibitors alike very well catered for by the hard-working Committee. Some absentees in my entry today, but I firmly believe that every dog present provides a valuable opportunity for the judge's continuous development, and I thank exhibitors for bringing their dogs for my opinion.

PUPPY (0 ENTRIES)

JUNIOR (1 ENTRY, 1 ABSENT)

POST GRADUATE (0 ENTRIES)

OPEN (2 ENTRIES, 1 ABSENT):

1st Collier's BELATARR NORTH BY NORTH WEST, upstanding & robust-looking 4 yrs dog, handsome masculine head of correct breadth & length, moderate stop, right amount of facial furnishings giving that square look to his head when viewed front-on, loved his gentle, almost human expression set off by decent hazel eye colour & wirehaired brows, correctly set & shaped ears of good length, strong moderate neck into well-made front assembly, straight well-boned forelegs, body has depth & balance with firm topline & desired underline, strong couplings, well-muscled hindquarters flaring from waist, well let down behind, dry wire coat, strong effortless movement, BOB

SPANIEL (AMERICAN COCKER)

All young dogs here with time on their side

JUNIOR (3 ENTRIES, 1 ABSENT):

1st Niessen's AM CH ROTOJET'S ROLL CALL (IMP AM), 9 mths Black dog, lovely refined head on this youngster with rounded skull & muzzle of proportionate length & depth, appealing expression with full dark eye, excelled in length of neck, good width in front, well-angulated shoulder & upper arm, viewed in profile looked to have reasonable body proportions, but hands-on found him rather light in body at this stage, although still had some spring of rib & was reasonably well-coupled through loin, firm & strong in topline with slight slope, very well-angulated in rear with good bend of stifle, very stylish on the move showing plenty of reach in front and drive behind, BPIB

2nd Murray's TOTEM DE LA CHANCE, 10 mths B/W tri dog, appealed for his sturdy square outline, masculine head with rounded skull, ample length, width & depth to muzzle, liked his dark eye & expression which was further enhanced by lovely low ear set, not the length of neck of 1, well-angulated front & rear, under his profuse puppy coat was a strong deep well-ribbed body, very short coupled, preferred his body proportions to 1, but appearing less  confident & just could not get himself together on the move today, showing clean pads behind but not transferring that drive to his front end, crabbing slightly, & losing his topline, his day will come

OPEN (3 ENTRIES, 2 ABSENT):

1st Niessen's COLOURFULLS LIVING THE DREAM (IMP NED), attractively marked 14 mths B/W dog, masculine rounded skull, would prefer a tad more length of muzzle with better bite, but of good depth, well-defined stop, full dark eye with appealing expression, low ear set, strong & long enough in neck, well-angulated front & rear without excess, straight well-boned front legs, would benefit from a touch more depth in body & spring of rib, short-coupled & strong in loin, reasonable width & strength in hindquarters, just enough slope to topline, well set-on wagging tail showing his happy temperament, free moving with plenty of drive, preferred his body proportions over Junior winner for BOB
