Thank you to the Committee for the invitation to judge. The show was held at Newbury Showground pre Southern Counties Ch Sh, a fantastic venue and great innovative thinking of the Committee to utilise the space, facilities and I am sure attracted an entry from some who may have been caravanning for the Ch Show.

Thank you to the exhibitors for their entries and to those who braved the rain. We were a tenacious team and stayed out as long as possible.

Hungarian Vizsla

Puppy: 2 (1 abs)

1st:     Mills, Karrouki Wildfire, B

Lots to like about this male. Presented a very appealing outline on the stand, of correct size and substance. In fantastic muscular condition. Super temperament and without doubt demonstrated affection! Was happy on the move but think he would have benefited from going at a slightly faster pace. A super head with correct proportions and correct eye shape giving a lovely expression. Strong and muscular neck of good length into well laid back shoulders. Correct body proportions and level back. Pleasing hind angulation and tight feet. BP & RBOB

2nd:    Harris, Goldstar Miss Teeq From Szajani (Imp USA)

A feminine bitch throughout, not quite the substance in body or strength of the winner overall. A pretty, lean head with correct bite.

Again lovely to see the lively but gentleness and affectionate temperament called out in this breed. Enthusiastic on the move, covering the ground well.

Junior: 2 (1 abs)

1st:    Mills, Karrouki Wildfire, B

Repeat.

Post Graduate: 2 (1 abs)

1st:    Cruickshank, Topaeris Shadow, D

Smaller in frame overall. An appealing head with good proportions and balance with low set ears. Moderate length of neck into well placed strong shoulders, just a little loose in front when coming towards me.  Level back and straight hindquarters with correct angulation.

Open: 5 (2 abs)

1st: Harris, Szajani Szeder, D

Presented in excellent strong, muscular condition which you could see on the stand and confirmed when you got your hands on him. A masculine balanced dog without being overdone. Face on a very attractive well-proportioned head, with correct stop and eye shape. Ears well set. Straight front, correct feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Level back held well on the move. Really drove from the rear. BOB

2nd: Mills, Karrouki Windfire JW, D

An appealing male overall, presented in hard muscular condition, just didn’t have the overall balanced shape and strength of the winner. An attractive expression and eye and well set ears, correct bite. Would have liked a bit more work to the head in terms of stop and a shorter length to his muzzle.  A straight back held well on the move, used both front and rear to cover the ground well.

Flat Coated Retriever

Puppy: 2 (1 abs)

1st:    Tagg, Empire Glory Black Brianta at Oiyou (Imp CZE)

Fantastic temperament and attitude on this young lady, look at me which I love especially in a puppy. An attractive feminine head of correct length with good eye colour giving an intelligent but soft expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Excellent depth of chest, straight front and well ribbed. Well-muscled hindquarters with good width into let down hocks. Moved with enthusiasm and ease. BP.

2nd:    Simons, Coedylan Martini Night, B

First show at 6 months today for this smart young lady and she did a great job. Not phased by anything and clearly enjoyed herself demonstrating great temperament and personality. The most feminine of heads, extremely pretty with good proportions and balance. In good body and condition and of course has time on her side but just as she should be at this age, would just like tighter feet. Moved with freely holding her top line and love to see a happy wagging tail.

Junior: 3 (0 abs)

1st:    Durrant, Glenturret Happy Go Lucky, D

Not overdone in anyway. A very attractive outline on the stand showing balance and that enthusiastic temperament one would expect to see.  Liked his head which was m masculine head without coarseness. Lovely length with broad skull. A strong muzzle and good nose. Correct eye shape presiding an intelligent, enthusiastic expression. Good length of neck into a well-placed shoulder and straight front. Excellent tight feet. Good body proportions. Well-muscled hindquarters which were used to drive on the move.   Will watch this young lad with interest. BOB.

2nd:    Durrant, Glenurret Lucy Charm, B

I really, really liked this girl and appealed to me on first glance as she came into the ring but was clearly visible that her coat was not quite right. It seems her litter brother winner of this class has formed a very frustrating habit of having a nibble on it. Overall super balance to this bitch in profile. Lovely to go over. Attractive head and eye. Correct length of neck into good front assembly and straight front and correct feet. Super depth of chest and body. Strong hindquarters and correctly angulated stifle into hocks.  Moved effortlessly.

3rd:    Simons, Coedylan Martini Night, B

Post Graduate: 3 (2 abs)

1st: Stevenson, Bonnyhilbrae Claypso, B

A really pleasing overall outline in profile.  Lovely head with correct lengths and the kindest of expressions. Correct small ears, set on close to the head. Good length of neck just carrying a bit too much over the shoulder for me today. Good bone throughout. Correct feet.  Good width to hindquarters and well-muscled. Moved well.

Open: 2 (0 abs)

1st:    Durrant, Glenturret Colour Me Crazy, B

Two quite different bitches here. For me I just preferred the overall femininity of the winner. She still has the substance without being overdone in any way. Pleasing head, with correct mould and broadness to skull set into her neck. Good front assembly. Correct length and depth of body, lost her topline on the stand on occasions. Nicely angulated hindquarters.   Moved soundly and with purpose. Res BOB.

2nd:    Bowen, Clandrift Midnight Galaxy, B

As called out above, a larger framed, well boned bitch in comparison who was presented in hard muscular condition, she clearly loves her exercise and kept in great condition.  This was also demonstrated on the move where she used her tail enthusiastically and on the stand. A pleasing head and expression. Good depth of chest into a straight front. Super spring of rib.  Correct bend of stifle.

Cocker Spaniel

Puppy: 3 (0 abs)

1st: Collins, Craigdean Killiecrankie at Candyke, D

Appealed to me in the line-up for his overall balanced shape and outline.  Sturdy throughout to go over. Lovely head with correct proportions and defined stop. Good shape and colour to eye giving that alert, merry and kind expressions. Well set ears. A muscular neck of good length into well placed sloping shoulders and straight front.  Well-developed chest at this age. Correct top line held well on the move with great head carriage. Correctly angulated strong hindquarters into short hocks. Super feet. BP and Gundog Puppy Group 2

2nd: Quigley, Abbzig My Eyes Adotre You, D

Another very nice puppy. I just love to see this typical Cocker temperament when despite the heavy rain, he was still happy to do his job in the ring. Pleasing overall outline. Slightly shorter in the neck to the winner. A super head piece, with correct stop and square muzzle and correct bite. Excellent depth of chest and spring of rib. Correct bend of stifle. Moved very soundly.

3rd: McWilliams, Fernstone Lapis Lazuli, B

Junior: 2 (0 abs)

1st: Hutchings, Pinkmoon Pippin By Beechtops, B

A lovely black, with the most gorgeous feminine head, lovely eye shape and colour giving an alert and soft expression. A compacted sturdy balanced shape and body. Good length of neck into sloping shoulders. Straight front and good feet.  Nicely angulated bend of stifle and correct short hocks. Moved soundly just carrying tail a little high.

2nd: McWilliams, Fernstone Lapis Lazuli, B

Very feminine, smaller in frame, body and bone overall. For me I would like a bit more of throughout. She was exceptionally sweet but apprehensive so does need to build her confidence in the ring. A very pretty head and softest of expressions.  A level top line with gentle slope.

Post Graduate: 5 (1 abs)

1st: Collins, Cachel King of Hearts at Candyke JW, D

I really liked this dog. Caught my eye in the line-up, very eye catching. A sturdy balanced outline to his shape. The rain didn’t bother him one bit, didn’t stop showing himself off, full of it as you’d expect. A beautiful head, masculine without being overdone at all. Lovey proportions and definition, with well-set ears.  A strong neck of good length into sloping shoulder. A powerful well placed front assembly. Straight front. Correct spring of rib and top line which he maintained on the move, using his tail well. BOB.

2nd: Hutchings, Beechtops Golden Ticket, B

An appealing bitch with plenty to like. Another lovely head, feminine with a dark eye giving that alert whilst soft expression. Correct moderate length of neck. Super depth of chest and brisket and straight front. Good bone throughout. Well angulated, well-muscled hindquarters used well on the move to drive from.

3rd: Beckwith, Troverothway Jack The Lad at Balaambeck, D

Res: Daniels, Starbourne Calibrachoa, B

Open: 2 (1 abs)

1st: Hutchings, Beechtops Majestic, B

Pleasing outline and balanced shape in profile. Of good bone and substance throughout. Slightly heavier in head than I would prefer but still a pleasing affectionate expression. Fulfilled the standard with her merry nature with ever-wagging tail on the move.  Correct level, slightly sloping topline held well on the move.

English Springer Spaniel

Puppy: 2(0 abs)

1st: Williams & Toublic, Cobhay Fancy Phlox, B

A very promising puppy. Fantastic bone on this baby giving her the strength throughout required.  Great temperament. A feminine head with good proportions and a kind expression. Correct length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of ribs. Super tight feet. Great width and strength of thigh. For me would like a  little more angulation in the hindquarters.  Moved with ease holding her head and topline. BP

2nd: Jones, Nineoaks Cha Cha, B

At her first show and coped very well with the environment and procedures. Sympathetically handled which is so important at this age to ensure it’s all about the fun.    A very feminine young lady with the sweetest of temperaments. Smaller framed in bone, body and substance than one. A pretty head with a very kind eye. Clean neck. Straight front. Good feet. Correct length of body. Moved well.

Junior: 4 (1 abs)

1st: Crouch, Trimere Timeless with Kassan, B

Presented in excellent condition which adds to present a very appealing overall clean outline in profile combined with her balanced.   Lots to like about her. Pleasing to go over from head to tail. A feminine head with correct plains and proportions. Good eye giving a kind expression. Correct depth of chest, straight front, good feet. Well sprung ribs, super angulation to her hindquarters and well-muscled.

2nd: Weyman, Spuffing Tanqueray, B

Another very nice in overall outline. Clean and balanced to the eye. A good head with correct proportions. A little too heavy in the flews for me. Clean and good length of neck. Deep chest and spring of rib and strong in body. Correct bend of stifle into hocks. Good width and strength of thigh used well on the move to drive.

3rd: Glass, Gunring My Boy, D

Post Graduate: 7(2 abs)

1st: Walker, Beresford Night Nurse At Dexbenella, B

My notes say “a bit special.” A bit overwhelmed with the environment but sympathetically handled to get the best out of her. Strongly considered for BOB but just couldn’t quite get it together in the challenge. Presented in first class condition in both coat condition and presentation and also muscular condition. Feminine throughout but with the strength and bone one would want.  The most beautiful head and expression with correct ear set. Clean strong neck into well laid shoulders. Straight front, super feet. Excellent depth of chest and spring of rib.  Nicely angulated hindquarters and width of thigh. When settled moved with ease. Res BOB

2nd: Weyman, Spuffing Tanqueray, B

3rd: Chaston, Cassapple Lindyhop, B

Res: Williams & Toublic, Cobhay Dazzling Azalea, B

Open: 9(4 abs)

1st: Walker, Dexbenella Atticus Finch, D

Quality through and through. I loved this dog from when I first turned round to see him in the line-up and then even more so when I put my hands on him. Along with super confirmation, he has a presence about him in the ring which I don’t think you can teach a dog, they either have it or they don’t. It can be what makes a good show dog a great show dog. An excellent masculine head with good proportions but not overdone. Lovely expression and brow. Super front assembly and depth of chest. Correct spring of rib into strong loin. Well angulated strong hindquarters. Moved with ease and style. Full credit to his owner for the first class presentation, makes such a difference. BOB and Gundog Group 1. Delighted to see him finish Res BIS.

2nd: Hydon, Clentonian Pandemonium JW, B

Appealed in the line-up for her balanced outline. A feminine pretty head with corrects top, good brow and eye giving a very kind expression. Correct ear set.  Not quite the length of neck as 1 but still adequate and clean. Well placed shoulders. Straight front and good feet. Good spring of rib. Strong topline held well on the move. Good width and strength to thigh and bend of stifle into hock.

Res: Williams & Toublic, Cobhay Dahlia, B

Good length of neck and clean. Straight front. Correct moderate bend of stifle.  Happy on the move. BOB
