Catrine Canine Club

Catrine Canine Society

24th Feb 2019

It was an honour to be asked to judge BIS at this lovely friendly show.

My fellow judges sent some fabulous dogs through from their Groups for BIS & all the dogs put in great performances. But the one who really caught my eye was a super Skye Terrier Gallondean Foreign Spirit, ShCM. Feminine bitch, who was just so balanced both on the table & move, broad head with lovely dark fringing to her ears & dark pigmented nose & lips. Strong neck, with short well boned legs, good length to back & well muscled all through which carried her effortlessly around ring, beautifully groomed & presented.

RBIS was the Leonberger Debbollinby Kruz Control For Wasserhund, I judged him earlier in day in ring half this size & he could move, but here he put in a faultless performance. For me everything the standard calls for, Large, Strong, Calm & muscular. Strong in head, but soft expression. Well muscled body that carried his large body gracefully around & not exaggerated in any way.

Again a super Special Puppy Group with a couple at there very 1st show who put in fab performances, my eventual winner who had also won Hound adult group for Best Special Puppy In Show was the Standard Wirehaired Dachshund, Tannahill Bergen At Decalleigh, a male just 9 months, head held proudly on strong muscular neck with good forequarters on short strong legs, good length to back & well muscled in rear which gave him plenty of power moving out, coat harsh & with lovely whiskers to his face, completed the picture. A very close decision between him & Res BSP who was the Kerry Blue Terrier, Irisblu Vidla, just 6 months but so well trained, elegant head, super ear set & carriage, neck strong, good depth of chest & firm in body with good hind angulations, again another youngster with good muscle tone for age, very steady on move & beautifully presented coat & face furnishings finished the picture.

Best Veteran In Show was the Bernese Mountain Dog, Floskirk Berneray, male just coming up to 8 years old. Judged him earlier in day & here he didn't put a foot wrong, sound in every way & in the bigger ring just showed that power that should be there for pulling things. RBVS was Rhodesian Ridgeback Sharufa Shadowing James, 7 year old bitch feminine head, dark expressive eyes, good breadth of muzzle, strong neck & shoulders, firm back & good rear angulations, lovely tight feet which carried her effortlessly with good rear drive.

Great Danes

A lovely entry. My only criticism of some would be Feet. I found a few weak pasterns & hence almost flat feet, which does affect movement & how they carry themselves. Standard says, Cat like, toes well arched. Without this it will put strain on other body parts.

Post Grad

1st Cunningham, Robertson, Sangster & Gilbert's; Ganteus Sansa Stark Of Winterfell Lomondane (Imp Swe); Elegant 2 year old fawn bitch with dark mask, head developing well, enough width of skull & broad muzzle, with tight lips & well placed ears, muscular neck held proudly on well placed shoulders, good depth to chest & elbows fitting closely to body, firm top line with good rear angulations, strong bone & lovely tight feet, enabled her to cover the ground with ease.

2nd Holland's; Axeford Arizona of Dramalex; just 10 month bitch, super youngster, good width of skull, with well placed ears, muzzle broad with dark mask, dark expressive eyes, slight arch of neck on well placed shoulders, chest just needs to drop a tad but elbows closely fitting round body, good length to rib & firm top line, with corresponding rear angulation, tight well arched feet, just needs time to body up. But moved beautifully BP & later 1st in Best Special Puppy

2nd Martin's; Thebyreblue True Valour @ Keishant; 3 year old Blue male, nice head & expression, muscular neck on well placed shoulders with plenty of depth to chest, today his top line wasn't best, but could have been over stretched! A little loose in pasterns too.
