South Yorkshire Hound Society Open Show Saturday 7th December 2019

Many thanks to the officers & committee of the South Yorkshire Whippet Club for sponsoring these classes & supporting me & to everyone at South Yorkshire Hound for allowing me to judge at their friendly society.

Whippet Puppy (7,2 abs)

What a cracking class to start the day.

1st. Dillon & Bailey’s – Stonefox Ice Pick Willy at Runforest. Stunning boy of 10 months, he has a masculine head with kind eye & expression, excellent neck & shoulder, super front & feet. He holds his topline well & has a good underline with good depth of chest, spring of rib & fill in front. Strong loin into lovely quarters with good turn of stifle & well let down hocks. He is muscled correctly & this shows in his sound & free movement. A super pup who I am sure will have a very bright future, BPIB & delighted to hear he went on to RBPIS.

2nd. Head’s – Demerlay Belle of the Ball. This 6½ month old baby girl is rather special, she has the most beautiful head & expression, dark expressive eyes, good ears, her crested neck leads to clean, well-laid back shoulders, with a straight well boned front & neat feet. She is a series of graceful curves from nose to tail, lovely hindquarters & a well set on tail. She flowed round the ring with a beautiful stride & was sound out & back, she really pushed hard for the class win, I just loved her.

3rd. Lindley’s – Jazzellie Made With Love.

Whippet Junior (4,0 abs)

1st. Stonefox Ice Pick Willy at Runforest.

2nd. Newton’s – Nevedith Beau Jolais. Typey 15 month old boy who is all of a piece, he has a super head & eye, excellent forehand with reachy neck & good bone. He has a super topline, good depth of chest & spring of rib, his quarters are well made & muscled correctly & he looked super on the go around. He was not fully enjoying his day, I hope he comes round as he is a lovely young lad.

3rd. Head’s – Demerlay Magical Mitzi.

Whippet Post Graduate (6,1 abs)

1st. Newton’s – Nevedith Beau Peep. Litter sister to 2nd in Junior & a lot of the same comments apply. I loved her for her size & body shape, everything just flows into place. She has an exquisite head & expression, super neck, shoulder, front & feet. Excellent topline, underline, tailset & quarters, with a good turn of stifle & well let down parallel hocks. Strong through the loin, she was shown at the correct body weight & conditioning & moved soundly with a free flowing stride. It was a close call in the challenge, but the outline she throws just clinched BOB.

2nd. Mycroft & Brown’s – Shiny Sensations Wish Upon A Star With Supeta (Imp Nld). Close call here, upstanding boy with a lovely head & eye, superb through the forehand, he has the very best of fronts with good bone & feet. Excellent depth of chest, good spring of rib & has good fill in in front. Holds his topline well, strong loin & good set on tail, curvey quarters which were well muscled. He too moved soundly out & back with a good stride in profile.

3rd. Demerlay Magical Mitzi.

Whippet Limit (5,2 abs)

1st. Johnston & Wilson’s – Cyangrange My Cuppa Tea of Danluke JW. Very pretty girl with a super head & melting expression. She has a good reach of neck into correct shoulders, straight front & well arched feet. She has a good depth of chest, strong loin & holds her topline well both on the stack & the move. Her quarters were exceptionally well muscled & she used them to full advantage on the move powering round the ring, a very eye catching young lady.

2nd. Lindley’s – Cobyco Charming Ways of Jazzellie. Bigger girl with a pretty eye & expression, excellent neck & shoulder, well boned front with good feet. She has good depth & spring of rib & has a super topline & underline. Another who was very well muscled & shown in spanking condition, she moved soundly with a good stride.

3rd. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s – Danluke Dark Chocolate Drishaun.

Whippet Open (2,1 abs)

1st. Mycroft’s – Supeta’s Secret Weapon. Super boy with an excellent head & expression, reachy neck into clean, well-laid shoulder. Super front & feet, good topline with correct rise over a strong loin, good turn of stifle & well let down hocks. His quarters were very well muscled with a good second thigh, good body coat & condition. He moved soundly out & back with a good stride. Pushed hard, RBOB.

Cirneco Dell’Etna Limit (1,0 abs)

1st. Taylor’s – Teyora Ronco. What a cracker this young man is! He has a super head, eye & expression, arched neck into moderate shoulder, square body, with fair spring of rib, set to elbow. Moderate turn of stifle & good hocks. Good on the move, he presented a very pleasing picture & was shown in hard muscular condition. BOB.

Cirneco Dell’Etna Open (2,0 abs)

1st. Whitworth’s – Anharbn’s Clementine. Close call between two nice girls. Nice body shape on this older lady, she held her topline well, she has a pleasing head & expression, & good reach of neck. Good underline & hindquarters, she moved out well. RBOB.

2nd. Taylor’s – Teyora Nara. Super head & expression, good neck & shoulder, good ribbing & underline. Not holding her topline on the stack, although she relaxed more on the move. Good hindquarters which allowed her to move out well in profile but was not quite so positive in front as the older lady.

Bloodhound Puppy (1,0 abs)

1st. Priestley’s – Maplemead Malazar of Quikotic. What a bonnie baby of 7 months, very much “wings & feathers” but that is what you would hope for at this age. Super head & masculine expression, lovely leathers held well, long neck into well laid shoulder, super bone & excellent feet. His body properties are excellent, great depth of chest & spring of rib & he held his level topline well. His quarters are well made & he has a good set on of stern. On the move he has a free flowing stride & despite the fact he needs to tighten all through I seriously considered him for the top honours. I just loved him, BPIB.

Bloodhound Open (2,0 abs)

1st. Jones’ – Harvidene Devil In Disguise. Pleasing boy who is solidly built, he is a little broad in skull for me, but otherwise he has a good shaped head & lovely leathers. Super forehand, well bodied up, muscled quarters with well let down hocks. He moved soundly in all directions BOB.

2nd. Shaw-Browne’s – Aspencade Fennel of Kingshart. This lady has a good head & eye, super front & rear angulation, & is good through the body. She moved out freely but tended to knuckle over on the stack which cost her the class win. RBOB.

1st. Woodcock’s – Molesend Verdict at Roddwood. T/W beagle boy of 8 months with everything in the right place. He has a pleasing head & expression, is good through the forehand & body & has well developed quarters. Sound as a pound with a good stride.

Her quarters were shapely & well-muscled & she moved soundly & with style, I think she is just lovely.

2nd. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s – Drishaun Star Among Lilies JW (Afghan). What a litter this must have been, stunning boy who is all male, such an arrogant expression from his lovely dark eye. The very best of forehands, super body properties, excellent topline & tailset & sweeping quarters. 2nd. Knowles’ - Tokaji Klassic Trickster at Sarawana (Basenji). Lovely head & expression, good neck & shoulder, level topline into good quarters. He moved extremely well & presented a far better picture on the move than he did on the stack as he was tending to bunch himself up.

AV Hound Veteran D/B (13, 3 abs)

1st. Makey’s – IrCh. Gairside Ferdinand (GBGV). Stunning 8 year old boy who is all male, I have given him a RCC in the past & if anything he looks even better now than then. He has a superb head shape, dark mischievous eyes & super leathers, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, straight well boned front & good feet. He holds his topline well & has a good depth of chest & spring of rib, strong loin, correct set on of stern & super quarters with excellent muscle. Stunning 11 year old boy who belies his age, he has a masculine well-shaped head with a lovely dark eye. A really lovely lady who pushed the winner very hard.

3rd. Hunt, Norris, Carmichael & Starbrook’s – Shercroft Liberty (Beagle).

Junior Handling Association 6-11 years (2, 1 Abs)

1st. Zoe Hudson. Excellent handler who has all the basics in place, she handled her naughty Basenji with kindness & sympathy. Just lost out overall as she positioned herself too close to me on the final present & she started her up & back just slightly off line. I would be happy to let her handle any of my dogs, just keep practising & remember to talk to the dog on the move.

Junior Handling Association 6-11 years (2, 1 Abs)

1st. Daisy Mason. I could not fault this young ladies excellent handling of her MSH Dachshund, she presented efficiently & unobtrusively & her patterns were faultless. Quiet & sympathetic, you always noticed the dog not the handler which to me is the essence of a true dog handler. Best JH.

Adult Handling 17-39 years (1, 1 Abs) Adult Handling 40+ years (6, 3 Abs)

1st. Daisy Mason. Well what a talented family this is! Mum to the overall JH winner & I could not fault her handling or skills either. Effortless & accurate patterns, she moved at one with her charge.

2nd. Carolyn Hall. I found out after judging that this was only the 2nd time this lady has competed in handling competitions, well you would never know. Good lines & presentation of her Ridgeback, she just was a little hesitant on deciding where to present when I had moved to the side of the ring. A little more practice to iron out these niggles & she is onto a winner.

3rd. Jo Bendle. I know this lovely lady & felt her pain when she went between the dog & I, but I had to chuckle as she realised immediately & was cursing herself under her breath for the rest of the class!
