Southern Pointer Club
The Southern Pointer Club
Open Show
24th November 2019
I was honoured to be invited to judge the club’s November Open show and very pleased to see my entry numbers with very few absentees on the day.
I must thank the hard-working committee, who kept the show running smoothly and to my two stewards who kept me on track. Also, thank you to the exhibitors who accepted all of my decisions gracefully.
I was looking for true pointer type, that aristocratic appearance, athletic body and of course the “series of graceful curves”. I was not disappointed and found plenty of dogs with the desired qualities, which unfortunately meant in a number of classes I was really nit-picking and on another day, some placings could easily change, such was the depth of quality.
Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1. Blair’s Twinhoe Vittorio – O/w dog just six months with lots to like, very pleasing outline and balanced throughout, lovely head with masculine expression, just enough bone, correct feet, good length of neck into well laid back shoulders, moved well when settled. BPD
2. Welch & Hazeltine’s Sweet Dreams by Hookwood – B/w dog and another just six months, not the outline of the first, good depth of brisket and spring of rib, moved ok but not as foot perfect as first.
Junior Dog (6,5)
1. Lowe’s Lowsmoor Crazy For You You – O/w full of breed type, up to size, head masculine and balanced with kind expression, good length of neck into well laid back shoulders, good spring of rib with depth of brisket, correct turn of stifle. Moved with reach and drive with the correct tail carriage.
2. Henshaw’s Sharnphilly Vice Versa with Peteshe - B/w boy who I have watched from the ringside with interest, so typical for the breed. Well-made skull, stop and muzzle, kind eye and expression, good neck and forehand construction, well sprung ribcage, hindquarters well muscled and enough angulation, he moved well. Unlucky to meet first today.
3. Westaway’s Penwest Poldark
Yearling Dog (5,4)
1. Lowe’s Lowsmoor Crazy For You
2. Wilcox’s Pipeaway Dreams Afyre in Merynjen JW – O/w dog who was full of breed type. Balanced head with plenty of chiselling under the eye. Clean muscular neck, plenty of width and depth to his chest, oval bone, good ribbing and muscular loin. Front and rear angulation correct. Not as co-ordinated on the move as the first today.
3. Pattie’s Wilchrimane Two for Tea
Maiden Dog (1)
1. Greenwood’s Harvestslade Orlov – 2 year old lemon and white, up to size dog making his show debut, balanced masculine head, clean neck into well laid back shoulders, deep chest, correct hind angulation with width to second thigh. Never really settled on the move today.
Novice Dog (5.3)
1. Westaway’s Penwest Poldark – B/w dog who was third in a strong junior class. His head is well chiselled with good length of muzzle and skull, neck clean, short coupled, shown in hard condition and moved ok front and back.
2. Booth’s Lundgarth Finch – O/w dog with masculine head and kind expression, long clean neck, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Would prefer more angulation throughout.
3. Greenwood’s Harvestslade Orlov
Graduate Dog (3,2)
1. Lowe’s Lowsmoor Crazy For You

Very feminine and a picture of curves, neck clean into well laid shoulders, enough depth to her brisket, front straight with correct bone, good spring of rib, angulation balanced front and rear.
