Rottweiler: J (5) 1. Austen’s Ausrie’s Whirl Wind. Stylish 6 month old puppy bitch who immediately appealed for pleasing make and shape. Very attractive headpiece; well proportioned and good depth to muzzle without being overdone. Pleasing dark eye and expression. Lovely straight front of adequate width, standing on super round, compact feet. Quarters developing nicely and held her topline. Pleasing underline and good width of thigh. Very tidy and sound on the move. Best Puppy and I was pleased to hear Working Puppy Group 4. 2. Wheaton’s Ausrie’s The Real Thing for Acinonyx. Litter brother to the winner who had the most appealing head and expression. A very showy and assured young man he pushed his litter sister hard, but couldn’t quite match her topline or turn of stifle on the day. Good to go over with a clean flowing outline and neck set well into shoulders there is plenty to like about him. Pleasing width and depth with good bone. Free moving puppy with particularly good action from the hocks. 3. Williams’ Montelago A Star is Born. PG (2) 1. Williams’ Montelago Stars n’ Stripes. Masculine 10 month old puppy who was going through a slightly rangy phase but I did like his length of leg and corresponding length to body. He has plenty of time to fill his frame. Good head shape which was in overall proportion to body with lovely dentition. Very good lay of shoulder and bone. Already has a good width across the chest which carries through body. Strong hindquarters and put down in good muscular condition. Steady, sound and workmanlike moving boy he should finish well. 2. Wheaton’s Ausrie’s The Real Thing for Acinonyx. O (2) 1. Austen’s Ausrie’s Pure and Simple JW. Consummate showgirl of 2 years, I was unsurprised to find that she is half sister to the winning puppies. I loved her symmetry and balance presenting a smooth, clean flowing outline from head to tail. Put down in fabulous condition she was a joy to go over. Lovely head and eye using her ear to advantage. Good depth of chest, bone and compact feet. Excellent underline and firm loin into well angulated hindquarters. Very purposeful on the move giving the appearance of being capable of endurance. Best of Breed and I was very pleased to learn that she won Working Group 2. Osborne’s Ch. Carsal Leonardo at Icklesborne. Stately 7 year old male presenting a well developed and mature outline as one would expect. Was as masculine as the winner was feminine with typical, proportionate headpiece. Strong angles which match back and forth with good coupling and quarters of depth. Pleasing bone, but not the feet of the winner. Steady and sound on the move.

Bernese Mountain Dog: P (1) 1. Bird’s Cullumbern Milano. Big, substantial puppy dog of 10 months. Pleasing front which is developing nicely for width and depth. Scored in shoulder and bone. Head is masculine with pronounced stop, strong muzzle, tight lips and correct dentition. He was standing on compact feet with slightly flexing pasterns. Firm topline and good length of back. Strong hindquarters but needs to drop into his angles behind as he matures on. Strong, enthusiastic mover holding a good outline but slightly untidy when coming towards me. Best Puppy and went on to win Working Puppy Group 2 – well done! J (2) 1. Bird’s Cullumbern Milano. 2. Tomkinson’s Materas Oops Im Precious. Somewhat unsettled girl of 16 months. Very much a typical junior on the day needing to fill out in width and depth. However, the foundations for a pleasing outline as she matures are already there. Feminine headpiece, pleasing expression and lovely bone. Held her topline but lacked the strength behind of the puppy dog which was evident on the move. PG (3 1) 1. Sutton & Davenport-Willis’ Nelstephbern Dior Foreva. Super 21 month old bitch who stood away for me today. Superb outline with excellent quarters fore and aft, correct depth and width of body. She is of good length with excellent loin and level, firm topline into rounded rump. Well proportioned head which complements the rest of her body and mounted on correct neck. Lovely bone and feet she was a pleasure to judge. So sound and easy on the move, using her quarters to advantage she was true from all angles. Easy winner of Best of Breed and was thrilled to hear she won Working Group 1. 2. Tomkinson’s Materas Oops Im Precious. O (2 1) Deradour’s Fortonpark Lilly May. Mature 4 year old bitch standing on good length of leg, correct bone and lovely feet. Head was feminine but not as well proportioned as others today. Strength to muzzle and kind eye atop a good neck. Adequate depth and width to front, well laid shoulder and firm back. I would prefer a little more hind angulation for perfect balance. Carried herself well on the move with particularly good action on the out and back.

Newfoundland: PG (1) 1. Pascoe & Courage’s Camnoire Charge. Big boy of 3 years of noble carriage and bearing. Impressive head with broad muzzle there was no doubt at as his masculinity. Pleasing dentition and good engaging eye. Good width to front and strong bone, but feet could be better. Correct angulation and shoulder and stifle with width to quarters. He was however lacking body overall to bolster his frame and give the appearance of strength. Firm topline, which he held on the move. Easy, ground covering stride in profile but a little untidy coming and going. Best of Breed.

Border Collie: J (4 1) 1. Hartfield’s Moshanta May Contain Nuts. Excellent puppy dog of 6 month who caught my eye the moment he entered the ring. Built on clean, harmonious lines he was so balanced with correct angles fore and aft for one so young. Pleasing head properties with good breadth of skull and muzzle of good strength tapering to nose. Excellent dentition. Neck was of good length flowing nicely into wither and shoulder. Adequate width to front, but needs to fill out in depth as he matures which should tighten up front movement. Standing on good feet. Easy movement which was fluid, maintaining a good outline throughout. I was very pleased to award him Best of Breed, Best Puppy and Pastoral Puppy Group 2. 2. Spurr’s Dreamwork Collat’ral Beauty. Attractive bitch of lovely colour. At 17 months she looked as though she was going through a growth spurt being slightly high over the rear. Feminine headpiece and pleasing eye. Straight front with correct depth of chest. Not quite the feet of the winner, but good bone. Lovely width of thigh and musculature which provided for good, sound, flowing movement which was particularly good when coming towards me. 3. Spurr’s Dreamwork Picture Perfect. O (2 1) 1. Hartfield’s Moshanta Movin On. Elegant and feminine bitch of 4 years who presented a reasonable and mature outline. Lovely head and expression. No hard angles, each part flowing well into the next, but I would prefer greater angulation at the shoulder. Firm topline but tended to slope. Lovely depth of body throughout and good strength to hock. Sound mover if a little erratic. 2. Tansley’s Billyara Ice Maiden. Strong, well covered bitch of 6 years. Heavier all through than the winner, but very sound and free on the move where she demonstrated an easy, economical gait. I would have preferred a more refined head for her sex which was not as well proportioned as that of the winner. Good width and depth to front with adequate angulation at shoulder. Strength to hindquarters but a little high over the rear. Very pleasing on the move where her good condition was more than evident and put to use.

German Shepherd Dog: PG (1). 1. Wilenczyc’s Nellinka Christmas Khaos at Kashiba. Fairly clean cut male of 21 months of good size and bone. Somewhat unsettled on the day he will benefit from more schooling. Masculine without being overdone he had a good head which was in proportion to body and pleasing expression. He was quite immature but has plenty of time to come into his own, fill out his frame and develop further in quarters. Nicely conditioned, he was a powerful mover if rather erratic. O (2 1) 1. Nolcini’s Ch. Broadmaynes Eclipse to Nolmacdon. Upstanding, rising 6 year old male with well developed and mature outline. Strength through quarters as one would expect. Lovely straight front with correct depth and width of chest supported by legs of good oval bone. I liked his head shape with good proportions of skull to muzzle both for length and width. Long strong, neck which flows well into wither. Well angulated at shoulder and stifle with straight and level topline, but a touch steep in slope. Very well muscled he put his quarters to good use with enthusiastic, powerful movement with good drive from rear and clean unencumbered reach in front. Best of Breed.

AVNSC Pastoral: P (3) 1. Hodgson’s Ragglebarn Old Blue Eyes. Smashing Old English Sheepdog puppy of just 6 months and attending his first show. A great showman like his namesake, he commanded my attention. Excellent outline for one so young; square and thick-set. Masculine head, of good size and proportion with delightful bold and outgoing expression. Strong neck of good length into well laid shoulders and strong front. Firm topline and pleasingly short coupled. Sturdy, strong hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Exuberant mover demonstrating good, easy action with strength from rear. All quality boy whose career I shall watch with interest. Best AVNSC Puppy and Pastoral Puppy Group1. 2. Monks’ Bergeau Forever Starlight. Dignified Belgian Shepherd Dog (Tervueren) male of 11 month who pleased me for his great nobility and elegance. Finely chiselled head of good proportions with excellent dentition. Pleasing length to neck which was slightly arched at nape. Nicely developing in front with pleasing shoulder and good length of leg. Strong straight topline leading to good hindquarters with adequate angulation. Not quite as together on the move as the winner, being very devoted to his handler, but so much to like about him. 3. Ray’s Debbie Daydreamer. J (1) 1. Monks’ Bergeau Forever Starlight. O (1) 1. Zbilut & Yacomen’s Starvon Déjà Vu. Pretty Swedish Vallhund bitch presenting a mature, sturdy and well proportioned outline. Nicely covered she was shown in very good condition. Well shaped head with wedge like appearance, good strong jaw and correct dentition . Strong neck of good length into a pleasing front which was well developed and standing on good feet. Level topline if a little high over the rear. Good rib and loin with slight tuckup. Lovely, well muscled rear which she used to demonstrate a strong thrusting action from the hindquarters. Best AVNSC and Pastoral Group 3.

AV Pastoral Veteran: (2) Two lovely veterans who were both a credit to their owners. I liked them both very much indeed. 1. Gruszka’s Samphrey Shades of Blue. Regal blue merle Shetland Sheepdog bitch of almost 8 years old. Lovely flowing lines she was well proportioned without a hint of coarseness about her. Elegant and feminine head completely in proportion to overall body shape. Pleasing quarters held together with a firm topline with correct sweep over the loins. Very well balances she always stood foursquare. Very sound and free when moving from all angles. 2. Tansley’s Billyara River Ranch. Stately 10 year old Border Collie male who was so good to go over having been presented in such terrific condition. Masculine headpiece which was of good shape. Strength and length to neck into a good solid front and lovely feet. Correct topline and turn of stifle. Very pleasing on the move, workmanlike and economical.

Pastoral Group: A very good quality group which was a pleasure to judge. Some very good exhibits unfortunately had to go unplaced. 1. Briard Biddlecombe’s Stormfield Fergie at Chavell. Super fawn bitch of 22 months. Quite a picture standing with correct length to height ratio complimented by an arched neck of good length of strength and correct head carriage. Scores in head and eye, strong front which is of good depth and correct angulation at shoulder. Lovely topline and underline leading into well muscled and well angulated hindquarters. Smooth, supple mover holding a pleasing outline in profile whilst tracking true out and back. A pleasure to award her the group. 2. Australian Shepherd Fuller & Holligan’s Silvarcea The Perfect Storm. Classy 2 year old blue merle bitch who pressed hard in this group. I felt she was just giving something away in overall maturity, needing a little more time to reach her prime which I am sure she will. Freestanding she did not put a foot wrong landing foursquare and balanced in outline. Clean cut head with good proportion of skull to muzzle and expressive eye. Well developed chest and supported by well laid shoulders. Firm and strong backline with good spring of rib. Moderate angulation and hocks well let down. Agile, easy mover without excessive length of stride. 3. The honest Swedish Vallhund bitch Zbilut & Yacomen’s Starvon Déjà Vu. 4. Shetland Sheepdog Moore’s Sanscott Limited Edition. Masculine sable and white male of 2 years old. He pleased me for overall outline and size. Carries himself well with well shaped head and pleasing expression. Quarters are well developed and shapely. Good topline and sound and steady on the move.

Pastoral Puppy Group: 1. Old English Sheepdog Hodgson’s Ragglebarn Old Blue Eyes. Didn’t stop showing and pulled out all the stops to take the group. 2. Border Collie Hartfield’s Moshanta May Contain Nuts . A solid performance from this youngster who gave the Old English a run for his money. He didn’t quite have the depth in front of the winner here. 3. Rough Collie Margretts’ Lynmead Lemonade for Collingvale. Free standing balanced blue merle bitch of 10 months who carried herself very well. Attractive headpiece tapering nicely from ear to nose. Very good angles back and forth and correct coupling produced a good outline. Stands on good feet she has all the essentials. Not as positive or as enthusiastic on the move as those placed above her. 4. Australian Shepherd Spenceley’s Quilters Kingfisher. 11 month old puppy dog who completed this line up. Presented a masculine outlook with good bone and condition. Head was well shaped and in proportion to body with pleasing strength and depth of muzzle and correct dentition. Firm topline which he held on the move. Now needs to mature on and fulfil his potential.
