Chinese Crested Dog Club
Chinese Crested Dog Club open show March 30th, 2019.
Breed: Chinese Crested Dog
What a great honour to be invited to judge the 50th anniversary year’s open show, especially so as it is the choice of the club members, a heartfelt thank you! Also, thank you to my two stewards who, by keeping the ring running smoothly left me to stay focused on the task. Thank you for the fantastic entry, in which I noticed a few general things. Overall there were excellent skins with correct furnishing, good sizes and proportions, and correct carried tails. The puffs I’d like better coats on as some were very sparsely coated. I am not looking for full dentition, but in my opinion correct bite is of utter importance. Here, I saw some poor bites, which can be related to lacking under jaws and underdeveloped muzzles, in addition to this some bad mouth hygiene. I find that in our breed, in particular, we must pay extra attention to keeping the teeth clean, this is something we can affect instantly; breeding for better mouths takes longer. Furthermore, I would like to see better heads closer to 1:1 proportions muzzle/skull, as well as darker, almond shaped eyes to give the correct crested expression. Temperaments were very good. A long day like this, with two shows, puts extra demand on the handling to get the best out of the dogs. I was very happy with my three main winners.
MPD (2) 1. Hampson’s Zerachiel Mr Majestic. A smaller powder puff puppy who needs to develop more, lovely attitude, excellent tail, sufficient movement, promising coat. 2.
