Welsh Springer Spaniels.

Best of Breed, in full agreement with my co-judge was the Bitch, Blackford’s Amblelight Sunglow – a 7 year old who showed very little sign of being a veteran! She presented excellent breed type with a feminine well-proportioned skull, good sized and well-shaped ears, balanced front and rear quarters, neat feet. Would prefer a little more substance to the coat but this is to be forgiven as I believe she was not long off maternal duties.

Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st Mercer - Amblelight Cassiopeia – Almost 2 years old and nearing maturity. Soft expression and good ear set. Good length to neck. Deep chest but would prefer more spring to ribs. Stood on tidy, firm cat like feet. Moved with drive but tended to raise tail a tad too high whilst moving.

2nd Dimond and Boumonte - Islanza Out Of The Blue At Roxdale – Raw 6 month old puppy who needs time to fully develop to be truly appreciated. Had a lovely head with soft expression, nice straight front legs with enough bone for age. Would prefer a little more rear angulation. Had an abundance of the WSS merry temperament, a joy to go over. BPD & BPIB

Limit Dog (3,0)

1st McIlwaine and Reynolds - Glenbrows Van Gogh For Benoveor JW – 2 years old. Pleasing masculine head with good proportion throughout. Muscular neck into good lay of shoulder. Straight front legs well boned. Deep chest and good spring of rib. Strong through the loin and enough angulation in the hind quarters. A little exuberant on the move but still showing drive from the rear. BD & RBOB

2nd Blackford - Amblelight Galatea – 4 year old with nice head and expression, shorter in the neck than 1, good shoulder placement and straight, tight front assembly. Strong rear quarters moved with drive, using tail all the time.

Open Dog (4,0)

1st Attwood - Ir Sh Ch Kylowen Drym ShCM – 4 year old. When stacked produces a balanced outline with nothing over exaggerated, good head proportions and a kind, soft expression. Long, strong neck into nice front assembly, ample bone but would prefer tighter front pasterns. Good rear angulation and well developed thighs. Best movement on the day from any of the WSS males but a little distracted in the challenge. RBD

2nd McIlwaine and Reynolds - Sh Ch Glenbrows Band Of Brothers For Benoveor JW ShCM – 8 years old but aging gracefully. Elegant head only slightly greying, good shoulder placement, deep chest and neat feet. Strong through loin and good rear angulation. Another that moves with exuberance which made him less accurate than the class winner in foot placement.

Cocker Spaniels.

Graduate (10,2)

1st Meaker - Meakwood Precious Pearl – Almost 2 year old B/R bitch, overall a small but balanced square outline, nice feminine head with dark eye. Muscular neck, deep forechest, enough bone for size and super cat like feet. Strong through loin and short coupled. Powerful rear quarters moved freely with drive.

2nd – Taylor - Cublington Lord Baroune – 2 year old black dog, larger cast than 1 but still balanced in outline. Head masculine yet elegant with dark eye. Strong neck into firm level topline, good spring of rib and short coupling. Good animated movement, just lost out to 1 in precision of foot placement coming towards me.

3rd Green and Brain - Cachel Pop The Question To Meloneras – Just 6 months of age B/R bitch. Performed so well in a class of much older specimens made her impossible to overlook. Head developing well with no sign of coarseness, dark eye and good length ears with nice silky texture. Deep chest for age with straight front legs, enough bone (for age) and tight cat like feet. Balanced square outline on stack, good little mover with drive and enthusiasm. BPIB

Open Dog (3,1)

1st Pearn - Fonesse Fingibson In Gwbert JW ShCM – 2 year old black dog. Masculine head without coarseness, dark eye and lovely low set ears. Strong neck into sloping shoulders and well boned front legs. Tight feet. Deep chest and good spring to rib. Firm through loin, short coupled with level topline tapering to low set tail. Moved with drive around the ring effortlessly covering the ground. BOB

2nd Ratcliff - Withifor Blubeau – 6 year old B/R dog. From larger cast than 1. Liked the head proportions with clearly defined stop, muzzle square but not coarse. Deep forechest and good bone on front legs. Strong rear quarters but would prefer a little more width. Sound on the move covering ground with ease. RBOB

Open Bitch (3,1)

1st Meaker - Meakwood Precious Moments – 5 year old B/R bitch. Good head proportions with nice chiselling, enhancing her feminine appearance. Good lay of shoulder and upper arm. Straight front and tight feet. Deep rib cage with good spring of rib. Strong loin and short couple. Would prefer more drive on the move but loved the ever wagging tail. BOS

2nd - Masters and Dott – Manchela Lady Million JW – 2 year old B/W bitch. Loved this bitch on the stand, producing a lovely balanced outline. Good head proportions and nice shape to muzzle and skull. Front legs straight and well boned with super feet. Deep, well sprung rib cage. Short loin and strong well angulated rear quarters. On the day a little timid on the move and not moving as her construction would suggest she might.

American Cocker Spaniels.

Graduate (1,0)

1st Sheppard - Buballoo’s Something Special For Shadowview (Imp) – 8 month old dog. Head developing well with deep muzzle and well defined stop. Good length and texture to ears. Strong neck and good shoulder placement. Deep chest but needs a little more time to fully spring ribs. Well balanced on the stand and good rear angulation. On the move needed a little time to settle but showed signs of effortless movement. RBOB, BPIB & PG4
