East Of England Ladies Kennel Society

Critique – East of England Ladies Kennel Society open show – 14th July 2019

Thank you to the committee for this invitation – a year later than we all anticipated owing to the cancellation in 2018. Thanks also to my steward who worked for several judges during the course of the day. The new venue meant lovely sized rings to move the dogs which was really good for my breeds. Really enjoyed the chance to judge these two ‘northern’ sled dog breeds - they have much in common but are very different! While the numbers were small the quality was high.

1. Lond-Caulk’s Icewolf King of the North. 19 month male – still very much the gawky teenager, but much to like about this young dog. I particularly liked his handsome head with good ears, breadth of skull, correct eye shape and colour, together giving typical expression. Good front and rear angulation and correct overall proportions with sufficient bone and good feet. Good quality top coat, but lacking undercoat at present. Needs to broaden and body up as he matures, but full of promise. Movement and topline improved as he settled, demonstrating good side gait. RBOB.

1. Lond-Caulk’s Icewolf Devil May Cry ShCM. Really liked this 8-year-old boy who had both size and substance. Lovely broad head with neat ears and good eye shape, although eye could be a little darker. Good skull to muzzle proportions and correct bite. Strong nicely arched neck; solid and muscular body with good topline which he held well. Good, harsh weather-proof coat and dense undercoat; correct tailset and lovely waving plume. Good shoulder placement, would have liked a little more return of upper arm, but enough angulation to show steady, powerful and typical movement. BOB.

Canadian Eskimo Dog

Junior (2,1)

1. Atkins’ Qimugta Harpist. Delightful 9 mo bitch puppy, looking as she should at this age and with all essentials in place. Very pretty and feminine in head with nicely placed ears and correct eye shape. Nice for size, lovely front and rear angulation, sufficient bone and good feet. Quality coat of good texture and length; lovely tail set and carriage. Moves very well for a puppy, parallel coming and going and with good, moderate side gait. RBOB and BPIB. Saw her later take Puppy Group 4.

1. Akna Peechee*. Loved this 4yo white and red bitch. Feminine head with good ears and eye shape, and liver pigment correct for her colour. Standing, she is eye catching, and presents a balanced outline. Good strong neck, lovely front assembly, correct topline and good powerful rear. Correct topline and tail set. Shown in lovely condition with coat of correct texture and presented so well. On the move she shows steady, sound, moderate gait with drive and super foot placement. Quality exhibit. BOB.
