GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Judge: Paulina O’Gorman – Berrymeade

Many thanks to the Committee of Boston & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge at this well-ran show and to all Exhibitors who entered their dogs. The quality was very good today and I must say I had to make some rather difficult decisions.

Although the majority of dogs presented were in great shape, unfortunately some were a bit too heavy which completely spoilt their outlines and movement. It only shows how very important it is to keep our dogs fit which will allow them to do ‘a day’s work’ in the field.

PUPPY DOG/BITCH  (7, 4a)

1. Loverock’s & Waldron-Smith’s THORNYWAIT SPACE COWBOY AT LOVISSA

I loved this sweet boy for his soft expression and beautiful outline. Great pigment, excellent reach of neck, just enough forechest, straight front and rear, good length of leg with good bone and round feet. Moderately angulated in both front and aft, correct short coupling and super topline which he kept on the move.  At just 7 months, he moved with enthusiasm showing good reach and drive, although still a bit unsettled on the move at times. A really lovely boy who truly enjoyed his day out, at one with handler. BP & I was pleased to see him win Puppy Group 2.

2. Mortlock’s GARVIN GAME OF FLOWERS AT HERTSMERRY

A pretty 7 months old girl in mid gold colour, a bit wriggly today, although she seemed like she enjoyed her time in the ring. Feminine head and a good reach of neck, lovely front and good angulation on both front and rear. Another one with correct length of leg and also short coupled. Good feet and bone, shown in good coat. She moved out well presenting good reach, but not as steady on the move and as powerful as the winner today, carrying just a little bit too much weight.

3. Wright’s LADNA PANNA HONEY CICHA NADZIEJA (IMP POL)

JUNIOR DOG/BITCH (6, 3a)

1. Ellis’ TENFIELD REX IMPERATOR Nearly 17 months old boy with the sweetest, heart-melting expression. I was pleased to see yet another dog with the correct length of leg, super bone and tight feet. Good front and rear, balanced angulation and throughout. Level topline which he maintained while moving. Kept in super, hard condition – an example to follow and he certainly showed it on the move. Although a bit excited while moving he was powerful, showing excellent reach and drive. His sweet expression made me smile and I think his ever-wagging tail showed just how he enjoyed being in the ring with his handler. Later I found out he has gained his last point towards his Junior Warrant, well deserved, congratulations to the owner.

2. Shepherd’s PARLICKVIEW MAGGIE MAY 12 months old bitch with super forechest and lovely length of neck. Feminine head with good pigment and correct bite. Good length of leg, good front and rear angles and level topline, also on the move, short-coupled. Well let-down hocks and correct set on of tail. Very focused on her handler moved out well, however a bit proud of her tail today. A very pretty girl who I will watch with interest as she matures. Just unfortunate to meet the winner of the class today.

3. Matthews’ MAVISTAN PANDORA WITH SONHAM

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG/BITCH (11, 5a)

1. Wild’s QUAKERHALL SEA MASTER BY BLUEWATERS JW Such beautiful head with melting expression and a lovely reach of neck flowing into his well-laid shoulders, excellent front. Good length of leg, straight front and rear, great bone and lovely tight feet. Another one showed in super coat and excellent hard condition, just right! Correct set on of tail and topline which he held on the move. Level and powerful mover, very satisfying to watch. Ever so focused on his handler and his tail did not stop wagging, a real pleasure to watch. RBOB

2. Ellis’ TENFIELD REX IMPERATOR

3. Shepherd’s PARLICKVIEW MAGGIE MAY

POST GRADUATE DOG/BITCH (8, 6a)

1. Mr & Mrs Hush’s BENROWAN ESPRIT A true star of the day! have admired this girl from a ringside for some time, I was pleased to have a chance to go over her. One so balanced, oozing quality! Feminine head with intelligent, soft expression, good length of neck flowing into her well-laid shoulders, good strong topline. Great forechest, front and rear angulation – very square. Straight legs with just the right length, good bone and cat-like feet. Well let-down hocks and good bend of stifle. Short coupled with good ribcage. Shown in great coat and condition, she flew around the ring presenting her excellent reach and drive. Showed well to her potential. I did not hesitate to award her BOB and was extremely happy to see her win the Group.

2. Ellis’ TENFIELD REX IMPERATOR

3. 3. Shepherd’s PARLICKVIEW MAGGIE MAY

OPEN DOG (4, 1a)

1. Loverock’s & Waldron-Smith’s LOVISSA SPACE DUST ShCM Such a well-constructed dog with a lovely typical expression, very intelligent and sweet. So balanced throughout, good bone, super topline, straight in front and rear. Firm neck flowing into his shoulders.  Good bend of stifle and hocks well-let down, good muscle tone. Just the right amount of double coat, shown very well in great condition. He moved freely keeping his level topline, at one with his handler.

2. Mr & Mrs Foreman’s CAMESTONE FIELD DAY AT AMBERSUN I just loved his head, so masculine with such a soft expression! Much deeper in body than 1, which made him look just a little out of balance, but another well-made dog throughout. Good bone, super forechest a well-angulated in front and rear. Firm, level topline with a correct tailset. Moved out well holding his tail level.

OPEN BITCH (4, 3a)

1. Enevoldsen’s VOLDENE SOLAR STAR This 5.5 years old girl stood on her own in this class today, but she deserved her placing. One of the best heads today with a super reach of neck, level topline, excelling in straight front and rear, good angles on both ends. Deep in chest with good length of leg. In good coat and condition. She moved out really well and at one with her handler. What a pleasure to watch this happy, foresquare, freestanding girl who kept wagging her tail, but the way she carried her head slightly took away from her balanced outline on the day.
