Suffolk Kennel Association

My thanks to the SKA committee for the invitation to judge and for providing super-sized rings which is so helpful when it comes to assessing the movement of these Working breeds.

Dobermanns:

O (2,1a). 1. Tousent & Ingram’s Jojavic Camorra JW ShCM. Very pretty 2 year old bitch with correct head, well-shaped eyes, good mouth and lips. Good ear set and neck with well laid shoulders and elbows nicely tucked in. Limbs clean and straight with well arched toes. Excellent topline held on the move with very good rear action. An attractive quality bitch I was happy to have as Best Of Breed and to see go third in the Working Group.

Newfoundlands:

J (1, 0a) 1. Coldwell’s Zentaur This Is Jam Hot (AI). 15 months Brown bitch who caught my eye with flowing movement immediately she entered the ring. A pretty youngster with a sweet expression, good mouth, clean lipped and ears not too big. Good reach of neck and well set shoulders. Not the heaviest in frame but bone in proportion to her size. Perfect topline with a good fall-away and tail set. Well turned stifle and nicely proportioned hock length. Slightly reluctant on later movement having been unsettled by a strong wind noisily flapping the ring tape but I had seen enough excellent movement earlier. A really close decision but she got the nod for Best Of Breed over her titled kennel sister on my preference for her body proportions, particularly in profile.

PG (1 seen, 0a) 1. Coldwell’s Zentaur This Is Jam Hot (AI). See previous class.

O (2, 1a) 1. Coldwell’s Zentaur Ain’t No Thang JW ShCM. Almost 3 year old Black bitch. Newly made-up since I last judged her so I was pleased to have the chance to go over her again. Good width of muzzle, correct in flews, small eyes well set with no looseness. Skull broad and ears set low, strong neck and through withers. Excellent topline, width all through and very good bone and feet. Not in full jacket but still beautifully presented. Moved with super drive. Reserve Best Of Breed.

Rottweilers:

J (1, 0a) 1. Young’s Leebees Obi Wan Kanobi. Cleanly marked male just 12 months old. Short strong muzzle, perfect mouth, broad skull with well set ears. Good length of neck and developing strength in neck and body. Parallel front, depth of rib to elbows, good topline and tail set. Fractionally longer in loin which affects the ideal 9:10 ratio but he is still growing so this may change. Moved well. Reserve Best Of Breed.

O (1,0a) 1. Austen’s Ausrie’s Pure And Simple JW. 2 year old bitch, maturing very nicely and feminine without weakness. Good mouth with well pigmented lips, correct skull structure, nice small pendant ears. Good width and depth of chest with well sprung ribs, front legs strong and muscled, back line strong and level, strong quarters, good turn of stifle and stands with hocks vertical. Moved well with good stride length. In excellent condition, she was my Best Of Breed and pleased to see her later win the Working Group.

Siberian Huskies:

J (1, 0a) 1. Simms’ Over The Rainbow Des Sarmentins (Imp Fra). 9 months old odd-eyed male with real class. Very good muzzle and skull shape giving the correct fox-like appearance with an alert expression from almond-shaped eyes. Excellent black pigment to nose and the lips which cover a correct bite with even incissors. Erect ears of good proportion and set to skull and well furred already. Good length of neck, good and lay of shoulder, depth of chest reaching elbow, front legs parallel straight and feet facing forward. Topline level and strong for a youngster, quarters strong with a good turn of stifle and well proportioned length of hock. Tail of good length, well furred and even. Coat density is very good. Moved very well at times but at others his puppy nature took over and cost him Reserve Best Of Breed but still an excellent Best Puppy In Breed. Delighted to see him go on and win the Working Group Puppy and end the day as Reserve Best Puppy In Show. I think he has a promising future.

PG (3, 1a) 1. Riley & Codling’s Dexter’s Adventure Eskimoski Domek. Four year old fully mature odd-eyed male in good coat. Strong liver pigment to lips but uneven on nose. Muzzle clean and straight with the length to stop and stop to occiput in correct proportions. Ears well furred and erect at attention. Neck, body and legs all strong with a level topline and good tail set. Has a tendency to turn his front feet out slightly. Good coat and body condition and moved well when he settled. Litter brother to my Reserve Best Of Breed and very little to choose between them.:2. Smith’s Snoqualmie Taliska Sky At Arcticswirl. An 18 months old bitch, altogether different in type, taller and finer and giving away a lot in terms of age and maturity to the winner. Very feminine with a good mouth and a nice expression from well shaped eyes of good brown colour. Stop is correct but I would prefer a little more rounding to the top skull. Neck a very good length and fair angulation front and rear but a little more depth to chest is desirable and this was another who tended to turn the front feet out. Topline a little arched but a nice slope to croup. Moved okay.

O (4, 0a) 1. Simms’ Arcticskies Glory Awaits JW ShCM. Six year old male in his prime. A good head and mouth with level even incisors, almond shaped brown eyes, good skull shape with ears well furred, very nicely set and a good shape with rounded tips. Neck a good length and very strong, forechest strong and correct width with ribs down to his elbows and well sprung but flat enough not to impede his action. Strong through his withers, excellent topline and croup to a tail which was textbook - thickly and evenly furred, round and a good length. Quarters not too wide, good turn of stifle and straight limbed front and back. Coat was excellent in texture and density. Moved with freedom and drive carrying his head forward. No hesitation in awarding him Best Of Breed and later he was second in the Working Group.:2. Riley & Codling’s Dexter’s Amour Eskimoski Domek. Litter brother to the winner of PG and very similar so many of the same comments apply. Better liver pigment to nose and a darker eye, equally well shaped. Good depth of rib and good body proportions with length greater than height at withers. Nice slope to croup, a good turn of stifle and length of hock all of which translated into very good movement. My Reserve Best Of Breed on his balance and consistency in movement.:3. Smith’s Willowbreeze Belle At Arcticswirl: 4. Smith’s Snoqualmie Captain Morgan at Arcticswirl.
