THE AFFENPINSCHER CLUB OPEN SHOW MELTON MOWBRAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2019
A super show with lots of smashing dogs to judge. Thank you to the Club for this opportunity and to the exhibitors who travelled for my opinion. Affenpinschers are a delight to judge. They really do make you smile.
DOGS
MP (1)
1 Obringer’s IMRUN’S HOT GOSSIP HUGO CHIAFFIE (IMP NORWAY) 6 months old and seemed to enjoy his first show. Attractive head with round, dark eyes full of appealing devilment. Mild angulation front and rear. Rough coat. Understandably a little leggy at this stage and a tad lean but foundations were good. Stylish deportment and went around with level topline and tail carried high. Plenty of self belief. Hope he has done most of his growing.
P (2)
1 McEvoy and Pirrie’s TAMARIN TUCSON (IMP USA) At 10 months this boy was a size up from two. Typical in head with good turn up, moved with style, and correct lift. Lots of cheek written all over his face. An effervescent personality ideal for showing. Rough coat texture and round feet. Level back and high set tail wafting over back gave pleasing profile. Will be more balanced when he drops into his frame. BEST PUPPY DOG 2 Kemeny’s LINSGIFT BEN TEE LEE Smaller boy with gentle outlook and happy disposition that appealed. Rough black/grey coat. Could not match the tail set and movement of winner. Only 8 months and a raw youngster.

1 Harvey’s CARMICHAN STAR MANN FOR BALATA. Well grown youngster of 11 months. Things I appreciated included his fun loving nature, amiable expression, nice eyes, broad brow, short neck and high set tail. Just larger than my ideal and uncoordinated on the move.

1 McEvoy and Pirrie’s IMRUN’S PIKES PEAK (IMP NORWAY) Easy on the eye and a show off. Almost two years old and his clown like character was a delight. Lots of pizzazz. Satisfied in all departments. Monkey features in head, goose step movement, harsh coat, short, square body, moderate angles, straight topline and tidy tail carried over back. Ideal substance with good ribs. On today’s performance, good fortune must come his way. Impressive. 2 Dopson’s TONSARNE HODMEDOD OF JALINDRI Neatly made little dog with delightful monkey face and expressive eyes. Nice ear set. Carrying a touch extra weight. This made him appear stuffy with a rolling movement and ideally would have liked a less tight tail curve. Losing a pound or two would add crispness to his outline
T (2)
1 Callow’s BUFFLES MAGICAL MAGICIAN Decent two and a half year old with above average qualities. Size was good and he moved reasonably. Typical head with broad brow and expressive dark eyes. Front and rear angles complimented each other allowing him to move freely. Short neck. Nice nature and quite cheeky but decided to drop his tail in the challenge. 2 TONSARNE HODMEDOD JALINDRI

1 Cary’s FAEHAT CARIAD Nice looking boy coming up 2 years. Attractive head with dark eyes. Coat felt harsh to the touch. Not as rangy as 2 and I preferred this boy’s balance and tidy proportions. Small and square and his topline and tail carriage were super. Short neck and round, compact feet. Going a tad close behind and can be careless with his front. A cheery chap whose side profile is eye catching and he fitted in well in the final lineup. 2 Atkinson and Clarke’s DARKSPRITE SOLSTICE SON Shaggy 2 year old with an expressive face full of sass. Was not on his best behaviour today and moved accordingly with tail down. Coat presentation could be improved upon. Being a proper little monkey!

1 McEvoy and Pirrie’s FAEHAT MWNCI DU JW Scrummy little dog with roguish expression carrying a dense, black coat harsh to the touch. Lots of unkempt hair and glistening eyes added to his facial appeal. Small, compact with moderate bone and well ribbed. Equal moderation in front and rear angles enabled a smooth, straight leg lift. His crisp outline was finished off by a level topline and high set tail wafting over back. Had an air of quiet confidence and willingness to please. Turned out in first class condition. RESERVE BEST DOG 2 Wiggins’ SCAPAFIELD SCHWARZ ODYSSEY I liked this boy; honest with no glaring faults, and plenty of breed ingredients to make lovely type. Good balance to head with wide, blunt muzzle. Monkey like in expression with plenty of animation in dark eyes. Small ears. Short neck. Plenty of harsh shaggy coat added glamour and he moved well in both directions with confident tail carriage. Has more plus than minus points but lost out in topline to 1 which decided it. Nice to go over 3 Teasdale’s TONSARNE POOKA 4 Todhunter’s PENNINGTON TITUS OATES VHC Schneider’s VONDERCROFT MAVRO OZZY
O (3) 1 abs
1 Greenwood’s CAPRICHO KEK LAUS BUB Good looking three year old. He looked right at home with my other class winners. Lots of appeal in head with high set ears and black, shining eyes. Good nose length with chin and turn up. Wilful and cheeky added to his appeal. Very shaggy but was carrying extra weight on shoulders that took the edge off his outline. Strutted with an air of self importance. 2 Todhunter’s DARKLE THE WITCH FINDER AT PENNINGTON Loved the face on this 3-year-old boy His expression full of eager anticipation. Has good ring presence and draws you in with his ‘joie de vivre’. Ran winner close in many respects but lost out on side gait and profile. Liked his body proportions…. as long as he is high.
SPEC O WENDY BOORER (7)
1 McEvoy’s’ CH RIOGAIOCH KAISER BILL FOR BALATA JW This exhibitor and partner showed a strong team of quality dogs today and for me this was the star of the show. A handsome boy with scamp written all over his expression. Well balanced head features. Dark eyes, high set ears, broad forehead, correct turn up. Plenty of shaggy face furnishings. Full of confidence and he handled easily on the table where I found a short neck, good ribs, deep chest, and correct angulation. Looked great circling the ring with typical straight leg lift. Up and down, he was equally as impressive. Proud head carriage, firm topline and tail wafted gently over back created a super outline. Coat was harsh and blackest black. Flawless presentation. His condition was admirable. Loved him. BEST DOG AND BEST IN SHOW. 2 Billows and Wilson’s CANOUAN LIONEL BLAIR BY ROBIL. Smart boy who was robust with good substance. Lovely face and expression with brilliance in eyes, round and dark. Square body shape and good ribs. Coat texture was harsh with plenty of shaggy hair framing head especially on beard. He was alert and wilful and presented a fluid outline standing, so it was a pity he was not more proud of his tail on the move. Sadly a case of “tails you lose”. 3 DARKLE THE WITCH FINDER AT PENNINGTON 4 Shennan’s CH ASHIBLACK UNDER SUSPICION VHC PENNINGTON TITUS OATES

1 Teasdale’s CH FURSTIN CASANOVA AT TONSARNE ShCM I have a soft spot for the oldies and this handsome 11 year old boy made me smile. Comical suits him. Glorious temperament that showed in his ever wagging tail A tidy dog with neat, square shaped body. Good substance. Head small compared to body with eyes and nose forming correct triangle. Small ears and good chin and turn up. Looked good moving with the outline I was seeking. Large percentage of grey in coat now (it comes to us all!) As fit as a fiddle. Must have been so striking in his prime. A past master still making every effort to impress

1 Pirrie’s VENUSTUS GRUOSI DYEAMOND AT RIOGAIOCH 8 month live wire with a bubbly personality. Born to show and the tail almost wagged the dog! Appealed for size, short compact body and typical monkey features in head. Bright, mischievous eyes. Good chin and turn up. Smart on the move showing off her impressive outline with high set tail. A prospect. 2 Brockhurst’s LINSGIFT MINI COOPER 8 months old. Very cute. Liked the balance of her head properties and the cheeky monkey expression was there. She stepped out with cool confidence holding tail in a positive position. Same age as winner but not quite so together in her development and softer in topline. 3 Harrison’s RIBBLERIVER MISS BRODIE
P (9) 2 abs
1 Scott’s SOME LIKE IT HOT AT HAMLOCK. On outline alone, this 11 month old youngster caught my eye, as her silhouette was stunning. Neck, shoulders, topline and tail set combined so well to create a clean and fluid profile. Tidy size and square in shape. Went through her paces with relish and willingly strutted her stuff. She was owning it! Feminine with typical head properties. Dark eyes with spirited expression, good chin and turn up. High ear set. Exciting puppy who I wager has a great future. Delighted to award her a deserving BEST PUPPY BITCH AND BEST PUPPY IN SHOW. 2 Pirrie and McEvoy’s PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT Litter sister from another mister and equally as nice. She ran the winner close and many of the above remarks apply here. Satisfied my requirements in head, size, body parts and movement and to top it all she was jolly with a tail that wagged non stop. Panting a little, which just marred her expression when it counted. Between them, these two should do some useful winning. 3 Johnson’s CARMICHAN CATCHA STAR 4 Cary’s NO STRINGS ATTACHED AT CARYCARES VHC Gill’s FLORINDALE STAR COPY
SPEC J 1 (3) 2 abs
1 Billows and Wilson’s ROBIL OPHIR. Not long out of the puppy classes. Happy enough on table examination but reluctant to make the most of herself on the move and tail was down. Needs more self belief and to enjoy showing and think of it as fun. Scored for sweet face, size, squareness and bright shining eyes.
J (2) 1 abs
1 Mumby’s CARMICHAN SASSY STARLIGHT. 11 months old and full of cheek. Lots of quality and scored for correct body shape, short and square with excellent ribs and enough substance to balance her frame. Facial features appealed with rounded brow, bright eyes, nice length of nose, wide jaw and correct turn up. Rough textured coat. Impressive mover with good lift and her topline and tailset satisfied. Cute as a button with a look at me attitude. A sunny personality with a tail that wagged constantly.

1 SOME LIKE IT HOT AT HAMLOCK N (5) 2 abs 1 CARMICHAN CATCHA STAR. Stood 3rd in a good Puppy class. Not quite a year old and ticked many boxes. Lovely expression with dark, sparkling eyes, good turn up to jaw and decent bite. Neatly made body with firm topline, well sprung ribs and moderate angulation. Tail carried high with lively strutting movement. A cheery youngster in buoyant mood and willing to please. Should have a rosy future 2 Shepherd’s AVANTGARDE LADY DARKNESS. Feminine little bitch with a good harsh texture to her furnishings. Liked her size and she appealed for monkey expression with dark eyes that shone brightly. Sweet temperament. Good outline but not moving as well as winner. 3 ROBIL OPHIR
T (3) 1 abs
1 CARMICHAN SASSY STARLIGHT 2 AVANTGARDE LADY DARKNESS PG (6) 1 Harrison’s RIBBLERIVER SAMS FREYA Liked her on first glance. Alert and wagging with a delicious expression. Bright dark eyes, blunt muzzle and prominent chin. She felt good to handle with all parts fitting nicely together and this was endorsed on the floor when she swanked around the ring displaying good lift, level topline and properly carried tail. Super outline. Neatly made with short neck and sprung ribs. Harsh coat and shaggy hair. Best mover in class. 2 Gill’s FLORINDALE SUZY STARLIGHT Such a delicious feminine face with precocious expression. Bright eyes and good turn up. Ideal size and well presented. Going closer behind than winner and losing her topline. She was eager to please and had a sweet demeanour. 3 Shepherd’s AVANTGARDE MAGIC LADY VENUS (TAF) 4 Brockhurst’s AFFENTUDE TINY DANCER AT MINIBUZZ VHC Wiggins’ CAPRICHO SCHWARZ LIBELLE
L (10) 2 abs
1 Wiggins’ SCAPAFIELD SCHWARZ OLENA. This bright spark felt good on the table and I liked her construction. Attractive head with monkey like expression, correct length and breadth of muzzle and sufficient turn up of chin. Smallish ears. Short neck. Round feet. Rough coat. Well bodied with ample ribs. Smart and stylish on the move and she out moved her competitors in this class and impressed me sufficiently later to take RESERVE BEST BITCH.I see her litter brother was 2nd in Limit dog and they are two to be proud of. 2 Kemeny’s CAPRICHO LEIBLING. Gentle face with round eyes and good turn up. Well made body with slight tuck up. Sound in both directions and her profile outline was attractive. Can stand a little untidy but pulls herself together on the move when she comes into her own. 3 Gill’s CARMICHAN TEGRA 4 Teasdale’s TONSARNE LADY MAWKIN VHC Shepherd’s AVANTGARDE EVENING STAR
O (9) 2 abs
1 Pirrie’s FLAME DANCER AT RIOGAIOCH Lots of positive notes on this alert 2 year old. Pretty feminine face with broad brow, high placed ears and devilish, dark eyes. Spot on for size and body length matched height well. Great mover with strutting action and presented in good rough coat. A natural exhibitionist happy to stand showing off her good points. 2 Hick’s CH CARMICHAN HEIDI HI Such an expressive, scallywag face with great eyes and the chin and turn up factors needed for the monkey expression. Front and rear angles complimented each other and she goose stepped with a purpose around the ring holding her tail up and topline level. Shown in impeccable condition and her sensible, happy temperament made her easy to assess. Did all that was asked just lost out to winner on size. All the more to love I guess! 3 Teasdale’s TONSARNE LUCY LOCKETT 4 Shepherd’s BLACK BESS V TANI KAZARI FOR AVANTGARDE (IMP NDL) VHC Callow’s BUBBLES BEST FOREVER
SPEC O WENDY BOORER (5)
1 Johnson’s CARMICHAN MY CARIAD JW ShCM Looked a proper little madam, yet at the same time sweet. Very attractive character. Her shining eyes and waggy tail said it all. Not just a pretty face as her construction was sound. Short neck, spirit level topline and matching angulation fore and aft. Well set and correctly carried tail. Whether standing or on the move this little bitch demanded attention with her stunning outline. Shown in good harsh coat with plenty of tousled hair on head. Such enthusiasm and correctness had to be rewarded. Found her irresistible. BEST BITCH. Just lost out to the dog for Best in Show as he was a tad cleaner in rear action. So she settled for RESERVE BEST IN SHOW . 2 Shennan’s ASHIBLACK PERFECT ALIBI Happy three year old with lots of shaggy hair framing her feminine head. Round, dark eyes. Liked her neatness. Moved ok. 3 Hill’s Ch SCALENE SAUCY SAL JW ShCM 4 BUFFLES MAGICIAN ASSISTANT AT PENNINGTON VHC Hick’s INGERDORM MARGUERITE

1 Mumby’s CH CARMICHAN MOON DANCE Almost 8 years old and looked great. Lots to like with plenty of excellent breed features on show. I found her insolent expression delicious coming from animated, dark eyes. Monkey faced with good turn up. Short neck. Small and square with ample rib. Round feet. Plenty of gumption as she moved around the ring. Topline level and tail up and over. Bright as a button, she put the spark in sparkling. BEST VETERAN IN SHOW. 2 CH SCALENE SAUCY SAL JW ShCM Very pretty girl who will be 10 this year. Loved her feminine face and balanced head with bright eyes and small ears. Body well constructed with complimentary angles front and rear. High set tail. She was fit and agile with good substance and paraded around the ring with typical action. Nice size and her mature salt and pepper coat was well presented. She impressed and can understand why she won her Ch title. 3 Mumby’s CH CARMICHAN MOON STRUCK JW ShCM 4 Shennan’s CAPRICHO JUBEL FOR ASHIBLACK ShCM VHC Atkinson and Clarke’s ORLOCK BAOBHAN SITH AT DARKSPRITE
BRACE (3) 1 abs
1 TEASDALE’S mother and son combination. They matched each other well with cheeky expressions and bright eyes. Good for size and were short backed. Busy on the move stepping out well displaying sunny personalities. 2 BILLOWS and WILSON’S Sweet pair with eyes that twinkled but sadly tails were down and were not going as well as winners who were shorter in back. A 5 year old bitch and her year younger brother.
TEAM (3) 1 abs
The Brace and Team classes are fun and it was nice to see these two teams go round happily in great unison with their owners.
1 Shepherd’s five. Quite a feat to manage five but this exhibitor made it look easy. Five girls showing lots of character and self belief. They were good for size, had attractive expressions, and looked like a family. 2 Teasdale’s three. Two girls and a boy. Such pretty faces and good textured coats on this trio. Liked their short backs and jaunty temperaments. Circling the ring with enthusiasm and purpose. Nobody got tangled up!
