Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well organised show. We were lucky to have some fine weather and a nice big ring. Some dogs, I felt, were carrying excess weight. All temperaments were exceptional. Ridges and bites all in order. Thank you to the exhibitors for the lovely entry.

PD/B (5,2) 3 confident puppies all at different stages –

1. White’s Carlincox Gold Star - at nearly 8 months this happy boy gave a balanced outline when stood. He has a masculine head without coarseness, giving an alert, gentle expression. Good length of neck. Nice lay of shoulder. Straight front. Good bone without being too heavy. Super front infill, with good depth of brisket. Correct ribbing and nice tail set. Well let down hocks, standing on tight feet. A little bouncy on the move (which can be forgiven at this age) he did settle enough to show good movement to win this nice class. BPIB 2. Harwood’s Carlincox Golden Touch – Litter sister to 1 this red wheaten bitch portrayed a balanced outline. Feminine head. Long neck. Good angulation fore and rear. Depth to brisket. Nice bone. Good ribbing. Nice width of thigh with good tail set. Moved well. 3. Watts’ Carlincox Golden Ticket

SpY D/B (4,2)

1. Hicks’ Nuthouse Queen of Clubs JW – 17 month lovely red wheaten bitch with good bone and presented with a balanced outline. Feminine, well balanced head with dark round eyes giving an alert expression. Good lay of shoulder and length of upper arm. Excellent depth of brisket. Good length of ribbing with moderate rear angulation. Standing on tight feet. Her movement was powerful and effortless. 2. Nash’s Mutoko’s Blaze of Glory – 20 month red wheaten bitch. Smaller stamp to 1 but nonetheless a good example of the breed. Feminine head with dark round eyes. Prominent forechest. Good front and rear angulation giving a balanced outline. Standing on tight feet. Another excellent moving bitch. Close to 1 I just preferred head and substance of 1st.

PGD/B (2,0)

1. Seaman’s Sofala Smart Jazz at Sansilver – 3 year old red wheaten bitch. Nothing over exaggerated about this bitch. Beautiful feminine head, dark eyes with an appealing, soft, gentle expression. Good length and depth to muzzle. Super profile with nice length/height ratio. Good front and rear angulation. Moved really well in the class but I felt she seemed to lose some of her enthusiasm in the challenge. 2. Hick’s Nuthouse Some Like it Hot – at just over 2 ½ years this wheaten bitch is well balanced all round. Lovely head with dark round eyes. Strong neck. Good front. Nice spring of rib with good length of ribbing. Nice croup with a good tail set. Good feet. Moved ok – have seen her move better which cost her today.

1. Davies’ Gunthwaite Papa Don’t Preach - 27 month old red wheaten male – A strong boy who, for me, fits the breed standard and he was on super form. Presented in excellent condition both coat and fitness. Well balanced, masculine head with round eyes and a gentle expression. Strong neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Good front infill and tight elbows. Good bone. Good ribbing with correct length of loin and nice underline. Excellent feet. On the move he excelled today, holding his topline, showing powerful, easy action both coming and going and in profile. BOB and pleased to see he was placed BIS4. 2. Nash’s Tokwe Ginvincible with Mutoko – A lovely 28 month old wheaten bitch who is sound, fit and well balanced. She has a lovely feminine head with equal planes. Elegant long neck. Straight front. Good length to height ratio with nice underline giving a clean outline when stood. Excellent rear angulation with good width of well-muscled thigh. Standing on tight feet. Movement sound and true holding her topline on the move, but was just out moved by 1 on the day. Nonetheless a lovely girl. RBOB. 3. Fiadma Mrs Clause Nyekundo
