THE GERMAN PINSCHER CLUB
OPEN SHOW 20 APRIL 2019
It was a privilege to be invited to judge at your well run club show. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. My thanks go to the committee, my stewards and of course the exhibitors for the dogs they entered.
BEST IN SHOW: Ellis’ Goodsouls Rumour Has It It’s Falkor
RESERVE BEST IN SHOW: Wakefield’s Hickson Matrix Of Milo At Brintala
BEST PUPPY IN SHOW: Wakefield’s Y’Nots Be A Drama Queen For Brintala
RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW: Newey’s Brintala Black Jack
BEST VETERAN IN SHOW: Neame’s Aritaur Gene Genie
Puppy Dog (2, 0). 1. Newey’s Brintala Black Jack, 6 months black and tan. It turns out that he is the litter brother to 2, but at this stage he is marginally further on. He is of a nice make and shape, with a good head, dark eye and good dentition. The shoulders are well placed, and balanced with the rear. Good tailset. Needs time for his chest to develop, but he has plenty of that. His movement was a little unsettled, but there were glimpses of accuracy there which allowed me to award him BPD and later RBPIS! 2. Newcombe’s Brintala’s King Of Spades. I am in some danger of simply repeating what I have said about 1, and I am sure that these dogs will change places frequently as they develop. This dog was more relaxed on the move, and his accuracy of footfall illustrates the quality of his structure. I later learnt that this was his and his handler’s first show; I am sure you will become a great team – well done!
Junior Dog (2, 0). 1. Wakefield’s Dogiwogin Dancer Shade Of Magic At Brintala, 16 months black and tan. Masculine head with a good flat skull and dark eyes. Good dentition. I liked his substance and balance; he has width across the chest and enough depth at the brisket. Great topline. He moved soundly in all directions and I was pleased to award him RBD. 2. Harvey-Miller’s Unforgettably Kissing Me Softly At Kariwright, 14 months black and tan. This dog scores for squareness and is another balanced example. He had a good dark eye giving a nice expression. Good bite. He is generally well made, and moved well out and in profile, but I preferred 1 coming back.
Post Graduate Dog (3, 0). 1. Duncan’s Goodsouls Mr Brightside, 2 years black and tan. Attractive head with dark eye and good ear set. Well placed shoulders. Good bone and substance. Deep enough in chest, short through the loin and good tailset. He moved well and was the deserving winner of this class. 2. Ellis and Henderson’s Yarracitta Here Comes The Sun To Falkor, 5 years red. He scored here for his overall proportions. His shoulder placement is good, and he has good width and depth of chest, and a short loin. He moved with some drive, and pretty accurately out and back, but his slight tendency to overreach cost him this class. 3. Neame’s Nirvana Le Creuset Des Fringants Complices.
Limit Dog (2, 1). 1. Ellis and Henderson’s Yarracitta Here Comes The Sun To Falkor.
Open Dog (3, 1). 1. Wakefield’s Hickson Matrix Of Milo At Brintala, 6 years red. A strapping, well muscled example of a working breed, but not given to coarseness. His maturity, conformation and composure made me think he could work all day. He has a flat, masculine head with good ears and set. Good length of neck set into well placed shoulders. Good width across the chest and depth of brisket. Short through the loin and with good turn of stifle. Absolutely sound and balanced on the move. No hesitation in awarding him BD and later RBOB, BOS and RBIS. 2. Ellis and Henderson’s Yarracitta Here Comes The Sun To Falkor.
Veteran Dog (1, 0). 1. Neame’s Aritaur Gene Genie, 7 years red. I liked his temperament; he is very alert and attentive to his handler. Masculine head with dark eye and good bite. He scored for me in substance, with a well developed chest with forechest, balanced angulation and a good turn of stifle. The tail (which never stopped wagging) is set well. He moved soundly and with drive to win BVD and ultimately BVIS.
Puppy Bitch (2, 1). 1. Wakefield’s Y’Nots Be A Drama Queen For Brintala, 7 months red. What an exciting prospect! A striking puppy, full of enthusiasm with tail constantly on the go. She has a pretty head, with a dark eye and good bite. She is already developing well in body, with good angulation, squareness, width and depth. She moved so soundly and in such a composed manner that I was amazed to learn that this was her first show. I was very tempted to award her RBB, but although she lost out to the more mature bitch, she absolutely nailed BPB and BPIS.
Junior Bitch (2, 1). 1. Ellis’ Unforgettably Karismatic For Falkor, 14 months black and tan. She started a little bum high, but that improved as she got into the swing of things. She has a nice head, with good dentition. Good length of neck and shoulders, and good width and depth of chest. Marginally longer in body than some, but good tailset and turn of stifle. She moved well enough.
Post Graduate Bitch (2, 0). 1. Harvey-Miller, Ellis and Miller’s Java Le Coupe De Coeur Des Fringants Complices Falkor, 5 years red. Having a very feminine quality about her, she has a nice expression. I would prefer more length in upper arm and strength of topline, but having said that she moved with some vigour and for the most part soundly enough. 2. Saunders’ Brintala Melania, almost 4 years black and tan. Another feminine head with dark eye, she also has a well constructed front. I found her a little straight in stifle and she had a tendency to tuck her rear under legs under herself. She also had her own ideas about things on the move and unfortunately didn’t show herself off today to best advantage.
Limit Bitch (2, 0). 1. Wakefield’s Ceriinan Vivica At Brintala, 3 years red. She has a nice, flat head and a good bite. Good neck and shoulders. She is another with good width and depth of chest, and a topline which is well held on the move. Her overall balance is evident in her movement, which is sound and accurate in all directions. 2. Saunders’ Brintala Melania.
Open Bitch (4, 1). 1. Ellis’ Goodsouls Rumour Has It It’s Falkor, 2 years red. I loved the outline of this bitch – she is so square, with a very feminine head, a good length of neck which flows into a short back and sloping topline. Pretty expression and dark eye, she has good dentition. Her well constructed front is also well developed, with forechest and depth, and is balanced with her rear angulation. She has good bone and substance, a short coupling and her tailset is spot on. Although the dog gave her a good run for her money, she moved with reach and drive and with accurate footfall at all times. Very pleased to award her BB and ultimately BOB and BIS. 2. Wakefield’s Hickson Heaven Is On Fire For Brintala, 3 years red. She also has a pretty head with a dark eye. Well laid shoulders with well developed chest and good forechest. She is short through the loin and has width across the back. Although slightly straighter in stifle than 1, and being slightly uncooperative with her handler when standing, it all came together when she moved out around the ring. Pleased to award her RBB. 3. Smith and Holliday’s Inxs Written In The Stars.
Veteran Bitch (2, 0). 1. Wakefield’s Legacys Wishful Thinking, 9 years red. Although of a certain age, this bitch is still sound all through. She has everything in moderation, with a nice head and front. She has a short body, with substance, bone and balance. She moved steadily and soundly in all directions to win BVB. 2. Smith’s Aritaur Ginger Fizz At Tubize, 7 years red. She has an attractive head with ears well set. She has a well constructed front and the angulation balances with the rear. She didn’t seem as settled as 1 today, and I preferred the front movement of the older bitch in profile, but having said that she moved well coming back.
Stakes: Not Bred By Exhibitor (10, 6). 1. Ellis’ Unforgettably Karismatic For Falkor. 2. Duncan’s Goodsouls Mr Brightside. 3. Newcombe’s Brintala’s King Of Spades. 4. Saunders’ Brintala Melania.
Open Stakes (7, 5). 1. Newcombe’s Brintala’s King Of Spades. 2. Saunders’ Brintala Melania.
