Golden Retriever Bitches Critique

Firstly, thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your fantastically run show. Also, I must thank my steward who had very little experience but did a great job which is not easy alone!

My co-judge and I did not agree on Best of Breed so the referee was called to make the decision which was eventually awarded to the bitch - the three of us all agreed both the dog and bitch expressed excellent qualities. My co-judge and I did agree on Best Puppy which was also awarded to the bitch. Unfortunately neither were able to stay for the groups, but understandably so.

Puppy Bitch (5,2)

1. Zubair & Trinder’s Thornywait Cassiopeia. This 7 month old girl, I’m sure, has a fantastic future ahead. She held her top line level throughout which completes her balanced outline. Her front angulation is excellent from both front and side profile, extending into a correct length of neck and feminine head. She also has the desired bend of stifle which is not overdone. On the move she displayed reach and drive which was straight and true. Considered for best bitch but I preferred the head of the eventual best of breed.

2. Birkin-Green’s Sansue Lovestruck. 6 month old cream girl with a lovely wagging tail who I’m sure will get better and better as she matures. I particularly liked her feminine, well-chiselled head completed with a soft expression. She has tight, cat-like feet and a level top-line. I would have preferred a little more front angulation.

3. Wheeler’s Princess Nella.

Junior Bitch (8,5)

1. Russell’s Rosinante Crystal Clear. Loved this bitch’s soft expression on her well-moulded head, set upon the correct reach of neck. Slopes in top line whilst standing but it was carried level on the move. Her side movement was composed of excellent reach and drive due to her great front and rear angulation.

2. Birkin-Green’s Sansue Keep the Faith. Really close between first and second here. Really liked this bitch’s overall balance, level topline and feminine head. She also demonstrates the correct tail-set. I preferred the stronger, driven movement and front angulation of first.

3. Shepherd’s Parlickview Maggie May.

Post Graduate Bitch (12,6)

1. Hammond’s Merimoor Satin Nights. Great front and rear angulation which lead to movement displaying both reach and drive. Ideal tail set and a beautiful, softly chiselled head. Correct reach of neck and overall balance. She held her topline well on the move.

2. Russell’s Rosinante Crystal Clear. 1st in JB.

3. Birkin-Green’s Sansue Keep The Faith. 2nd in JB

Limit Bitch (5,3)

1. Birkin-Green’s Sansue Keep The Faith. 2nd in JB, 3rd in PGB.

2. Shepherd’s Parlickview Maggie May. True golden bitch with a feminine head with dark eyes and pigment. Carried a level topline on the move. Moved a little too close from the rear but displayed good reach due to her correctly angulated front. One who’ll keep improving with maturity.

Open Bitch (7,3)

1. Russell’s Rosinante Take A Chance On Me JW. Excellent bitch who caught my eye with her soft express and feminine head which was well-chiselled. Well balanced outline which was held on the move throughout. Dark eyes and pigment. Correct, straight front and the ideal angulation both front and rear. Delighted to see her be awarded Best Of Breed on the referee’s decision.

2. Birkin-Green’s Sansue Keep The Faith. 2nd in JB, 3rd in PGB, 1st in LB.

3. Hammond’s Merrimoor Skyeline.
